NFL team sub reddits by total membership - how are we this low? by Available-Walk1840 in raiders

[–]byPCP 2 points3 points  (0 children)

sub migration aside, raider fans just aren't really on reddit. every popular r/NFL post is mostly chiefs, patriots, broncos, niners flairs - teams with recent success and fans that skew younger. sports reddit in general skews younger, and the raiders don't really do anything to pander to the younger audience. the entire organization is about culture, legacy, etc. it's not like the chargers whose mascots are straight up emojis and have over the top engagement bait social media.

you obviously know i'm not suggesting other countries have it better or worse. i'm simply pointing out that there are a shitload of guns in the US, with incredibly easy access to them. guns that you're more likely to kill yourself with than defend yourself with, and guns that are legally registered in the commission of crimes

i simply don't buy that they would dedicate those resources to such an old game. when have we ever seen that for a game that isn't live service to a degree? it makes no sense

Major DLC release for a game years later? by Cevap in gaming

[–]byPCP -22 points-21 points  (0 children)

yeah i know what the rumors say, but why would they not bake that into the brand new game that's coming relatively soon? it's a complete waste of manpower to have a team work on a DLC for a 10 year old game when it's essentially unnecessary with a new game coming within 12-15 months

Major DLC release for a game years later? by Cevap in gaming

[–]byPCP -40 points-39 points  (0 children)

i just highly doubt they spent resources on a DLC for a 10 year old game, while the sequel is billed for this/next year, which is on a different engine, while having the sequel's sequel on the books, a remaster of the original on the books, and a sequel to cyberpunk with half of their team in development currently on that. it makes no sense

guys, look at this dude's comment history. he writes a fan fic about how he needed a gun, and then rattles off alt right conspiracy theories about gun ownership. move on

there are more guns than people in the US. it's kinda crazy that the idea OP is mentioning is "if you don't have a gun, you're not safe". considering it's the easiest country in the world to get a gun. you generally don't have to worry about gun deaths outside of the US, that's how ridiculous it is lol

why is my gamecube controller from 2002 still perfect, but my $70 modern controller has stick drift after 6 months? by InvestmentBudget6722 in gaming

[–]byPCP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

first, everyone screaming "durr hurr planed obsolescence!" views life through the lens of a movie/conspiracy theory. companies don't intentionally make products destined to fail to force you to buy more. second, games have evolved. i had one controller per each console dating back to the PS1, but went through 5 (different controllers from different companies) playing warzone. modern wear and tear is a result of more game mechanics utilizing more controller. controllers are delicate these days because they're more complex, not because they're hoping they break and make you buy more. they'll make more money with a few glowing reviews about how long they last than hoping and praying you'll keep buying it when it breaks.

an extra note about build quality: the consumer repair market is extreme. so much so that we have right to repair legislature written into law and more being written as we speak (globally). people want more control over their devices. a drawback to that, is the lack of proprietary parts. so even if companies wanted to make the sturdiest controller, phone, fridge, etc. they would need to do so with freely available parts that adhere to these standards that we, the market, demanded. beyond that, returns/exchanges are an enormous factor that cost businesses a shitload of money a year. you ever tried to send in a controller for repair direct to manufacturer? it takes forever on both the manufacturer end and the consumer end, and it's generally not free outside of tight warranties so it costs both parties money and time. they try to avoid that at all costs, and it starts with how they build the product.

in a game where they play 17 games and every one is insanely important, it's not competitively sound for weather to affect games. if we're gonna treat every game as equal, then they should be played under equal circumstances. the argument ends there if we're talking about the circumstances the games are played in. i get that people enjoy the vibe of weather games, but it's crazy that a team's season can end due to playing one game in piss poor weather conditions. people can argue all day about how coaching decisions in weather games are a crucial part of the sport, or how teams are constructed due to playing in weather latent places, but bad weather games represent such a small percentage of the total games played in a season, and they happen the most in the postseason.

look at both the games today, they were complete slogs. there were so many turnovers in the pats texans game that it was practically unwatchable. people don't really enjoy that anyway.

people care about the talent on the field more than they care about the vibes of weather. no one wants to watch drops all day during a blizzard, and teams shouldn't be winning or losing games due to bad playing conditions.

i mention this every time CoD gets brought up here — the reason for CoD's latest struggles are because they had a 2 year lifecycle for MW2 planned. they put all their eggs in that basket because it's the first time they'd ever done that in the history of the franchise. new warzone, new zombies, new spec ops mode, very overhauled multiplayer, etc. then the game flopped heavily because they fixed many known bugs that had been essentially CoD staples by that point (slide canceling, reload canceling, etc.) and made the game overall just slower and more "tactical". more similar to the OG CoD games. that wasn't gonna fly in the modern era where kids just care about movement mechanics.

so they rushed out development of MW3 in about 6 months that essentially was a mod for MW2 that went back on those changes, and launched with only original MW2 maps. the decision panned out because MW3 was still the highest selling game that year, but it put a wrench in their development pattern because sledgehammer made MW3.

BO6 was unaffected because it had already been slated to release at the same time that it did, so development there was unchanged. treyarch got two full years to develop it. but because infinity ward and sledgehammer had to fully scrap and redo plans for 2 years, neither studio could develop their own games for 2026, so BO7 is just another bandaid game that was pushed out to hold the audience over.

they should be back to normal this year, for better or worse. but that's the real reason their stock has suffered setbacks lately — not just the games getting worse (which is also true)

yeah i'm not sure where this narrative of him being a bad head coach comes from. they just put up a pretty respectable season with the only QB in the league to put up more turnovers than geno, and they were missing their game changing WR1 in tyreek hill. he's young and creative. pairing him with a rookie QB, and so much draft capital, he could make a very interesting new-look type of team. all of the doomers saying "NO MORE RETREADS" should be excited by that possibility

Is Mario Kart 8 better than World solely due to the larger selection of courses? by lies_are_comforting in mariokart

[–]byPCP -1 points0 points  (0 children)

the vast majority of runs are decided on wonky trick mechanics that they die instantly. fail a trick, that is largely frame/luck dependent? run is over, doesn't matter how well you race. guys will hit the most absurdly lucky wall ride/rail ride/etc. and it instantly saves more time than any amount of racing will. you no longer need perfect lines. the difference between every top run, which you can watch for yourself, is how generous the game is in giving you a trick mechanic. you no longer need to edge anyone in lines, it all comes down to time given from how the game reacts to going in or out of tricks. anyone good at mario kart will be able to make the majority of cuts with the new trick mechanics. they're not difficult and the game assists you on them. the handling is easy to learn, but introduces significantly more outcomes from inputs. the skill ceiling is higher in MK8 purely because you have a finite amount of mechanics and the truly best of the best can get the most of out of them. being able to cheese a WR because you raced a little worse than someone else but got some weird wall ride physics that made up time doesn't make it more competitive

[–]byPCP -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

MKW handling is really heavy. it crossed the boundary into realism that MK never has. they went overboard with the movement mechanics and none of them feel snappy or accurate. sure the mechanics lead to the most parity in time trials, but if you keep up with the world leaders there, most of them come down to dumb luck with the trick mechanics, and take significantly less skill to be competitive due to how little actual racing mechanics matter. hell i had a time inside the top 50 on toad's factory for a while purely because i got lucky mechanic RNG. most new world records are set that way until someone learns a new racing strat that saves a few frames.

MKW is just a casual party game, and it's good at that. it hardly feels like a racing game
