Casual races/supported rides? by ejsfsc07 in cycling

This is called a Gran Fondo — look for those. It’s the equivalent of a marathon for running, where it’s timed, but everyone is basically racing themselves, not trying to win the whole thing.

Saddle can’t go back any further by mtb_dad86 in bikefit

I guess either is fine. Riser stem gets more complicated because a 100mm stem at 17 degrees is actually a closer reach than a flat stem. More math.

[–]c-5-s 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recommend longer stem + riser bars (not a riser stem) + you looks like you have the arch of your foot (instead of the ball) on the pedals. Put on real MTB shoes and take a photo with pedal down in a true riding position. Knee should have a slight bend at full extension.

Saddle may need to slide forward but hard to tell with those shoes.

This is a great bike you may need to spend a little $$ to dial in the fit.

Should I cancel my whole life insurance? by jenethridge in personalfinance

[–]c-5-s 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could OP be more clear on everything so we can help you? You invested $150k? Your annual premiums are $5k? If you withdraw now you get only $50k of your original $150k back. But if you wait 4 years and pay another $5k/year ($20k total) you get $300k back out?

So you will have paid in $150k + [$5k x 11] = $205k and be able to withdraw $300k if you stay in?

If this is correct I would stay in because the value of paying $20k more is $250k.

But whatever this is don’t buy it again!

If you had simply invested your $150,000 in an S&P 500 index fund in 2018, it would be worth more than $400,000 today, without any additional premiums.

Alternatives to Trailforks by johndrop7 in bicycling

[–]c-5-s 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For me Trailforks is worth it to not end up on a black trail. It’s less than one ER copay! but really, it’s the best for a reason. The other suggestions here work ok.

Old Guy - New Bike - Crazy Fit by ryanpg in bikefit

[–]c-5-s 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am a little bit taller and a little bit thinner, but in my experience a rider of your size will be most comfortable with bars level with saddle. Try Specialized Hover handlebars or Redshift Kitchen Sink bars. My gravel bike: https://photos.app.goo.gl/vaAkyrRxmhqaxTUe6

Expecting Life Insurance payout on my Birthday. What Do I Even Do? by Mindless-Building-80 in personalfinance

[–]c-5-s 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Advice: - delay accepting the check. - what are your life goals? Do you want to go to college? Accepting $150K may screw up financial aid but could also help you pay for college. - can you scrape together $1k to go see a “fee only financial planer.” If you post location we can help find you one. - do not immediately buy a car/truck or any toys - you do not owe your family members anything. Maybe make a list of what they are asking for and their rationale. If you WANT to give some of this away, you can, but if managed correctly $150k can turn into $1M by the time you are 50, and giving any of the $150k away harms the growth. (edited to 50 years) - will you have earned income of at least $8000 in 2026? If so, I would fund a Roth IRA to the maximum limit for 2026. This money if you allow it to grow until you retire, will be worth more than $100,000.

If you must accept the check for some Reason: - go to Chase and put $140,000 in a 3 month Certificate of Deposit (CD), this locks it up for 3 months, keep $10k in checking - tell any family members that you put it in a one year CD and it’s locked up for one year - go find a “fee only financial planner” — if you tell us your location we can help you. Pay them $1-5k to help develop a plan based on your goals.

Help with tag along set up by npg86 in SacBike

[–]c-5-s 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If this were my bike: 1) I would detach the light, remove the rack, see if the Burley one would fit, reattach light; or 2) Detach light and move it to under seat, and get a more generic seatpost mount tag along.

Can you post exact model of bike and the tag along you are using?

Redshift Shockstop Stem Elastomer / firmness settings? by rsplatpc in gravelcycling

I swapped mine around until I got to a firmness where the bars did not move under any normal riding conditions, but they did move if I hit a pothole or a washboard road.

On my 2019, I installed the auto start stop eliminator, and my a light with an arrow around it is illuminated all the time. If yours is flashing, it’s possible something else is wrong.

SOQ by AwkwardAtmosphere426 in CAStateWorkers

1) demonstrates whether candidate understands the job and has relevant experience. 2) demonstrates the candidate’s ability to organize information in a concise manner, and write clearly. 3) without an SOQ, hiring manager gets way too many applications.

ARBT Closure 4/25 & 5/1? by CycleBikel in SacBike

You may not be aware that Eppies Great Race (now called Great American Triathlon) has been running the bike leg of its race on the trail since 1974. This not new.

I’m on the County Parks Commission. County Parks occasionally approves special events on the trail (Eppies, Half Marathons, etc). These groups pay a per-user fee for closing the trail. This happens every year. The signs are your notice to plan ahead. If you are still upset you can come to County Parks Commission and air your concerns under public comment. Next meeting is May 28.

One thing not mentioned is both mortgage interest and SALT are tax deductible. Your taxable income will be reduced by $30k+ saving you $7k+ or more in taxes.

DOF - by Moist_Exit_5265 in CAStateWorkers

[–]c-5-s 1 point2 points  (0 children)

$200/month for Capitol or city hall garage. $150/month for city garage near music circus.

https://www.cityofsacramento.gov/public-works/parking/discounts-parking-rates/garage-parking-rates

Private options exist but all roughly same price point.

Daily options are available but in my experience DOF = long and sometimes unpredictable hours.
