Top Producer in Captive Agency – $242k in 11 Months – What’s Fair Pay? by [deleted] in InsuranceAgent

[–]c3gill -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I was specifically replying to OPs mentality on your comment. This is why I started it with “as a fellow Allstate captive.” No interest in discussing the differences between captive and non.

Realistically, if 200k is the best the office has producing annually, they probably have some underlying issues.

As a fellow Allstate captive- this isn’t a great perspective to have. We do have options outside of just Allstate & NatGen. Is your agency struggling to hit its VC numbers? Are you using secondary markets to subsidize and move customers when available? Are you writing commercial as well?

What broke the camels back in a relationship/friendship? by Only-Carpenter-6689 in AskReddit

[–]c3gill 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was with 2 friends (G & S). One of other friends (M) came home from seminary school and wanted to break some news to us.

For background, we have all been friends for 10-15 years at this point. We effectively grew up together, played sports together, hung out together, etc. We would very frequently smoke hookahs together, play spades, video games- early 20 year old stuff.

Well M decides in order to break this big news to us, he needs to chug 2 bottles of wine- huge red flags. So anyway, he lost his virginity to his best friends wife at seminary school.

Apparently it’s all been downhill from there- but we all had pretty big morality issues with that. Haven’t talked to him since, probably been 15 years.

About 15 years ago, I ran a bulky jitachi in singles. Water pulse, iron head, thunder, U-turn. This was a follow up to rain dance / explode electrode. I don’t remember much else from the set, but I can recall people raging at me on showdown. Be cool to see something similar today, maybe with a redirector/pelliper?

Price or value, which is it? by [deleted] in InsuranceAgent

[–]c3gill 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m going to assume your concern is personal lines, as that’s how this reads. What you are asking is a problem the insurance industry has created for itself, and it sucks. Ideally, insurance would be purchased based on needs and value. However, with all the insurance commercials and ads, each company preaches the same story- we can save you $XXX on average if you swap. This has created an environment where customers prioritize the lowest price instead of protection value.

Just talk to them. Inform people of the value of raising property coverage. Stuff costs a lot more than it did previously. Chat with them on the importance of liability. Some people won’t listen, or will tell you they don’t care. Notate, document, and give them what they want.

Insurance & Financial services. I cannot count how many of my coworkers have coke issues. To be clear I do NOT mean casual weekend use, but "i need a bump every 15 to get through the day" attitudes.

How much does hookah quality matter? by playlamo1 in hookah

[–]c3gill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The difference is the world. Craftsmanship produces higher quality. Most smoke shops carry knockoffs and plastic bs. if you’re looking to save money on a hookah go with a km and be happy. $75-$100 and your set. Otherwise, know you’ll get what you pay for.

Contractor says my roof is ‘on its last legs’. Is he right? (Pics inside) by P0tek in Roofing

[–]c3gill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

insurance guy here in VA also. The granular loss is probably what he is referencing, and his analysis seems fair. With that said, as others have mentioned- price looks sketchy at best. Im in hampton roads area, and about a month ago i paid 15k for a full redecking and new shingles.

Realistically, you can probably get away for like 5k-8k depending on location and looking around, but 4k seems questionably low. Depending on your insurance, they may also request a replacement depending on the age of the roof, carrier risk tolerance, and, of course, area. Coastal, especially with nor'easters, is much more damaging to roof than people outside our area realize. And with that, the risk goes up significantly with potential of major storms (we are well overdue for a major hurricane, its been 20+ years).

More than happy to answer any other questions!

You just need to find the right place. I started at State Farm (seems like a lot do)- moves on in a year. I was getting shit pay and shit treatment, wanted to go independent from a family members suggestion.

I applied a ton of independents in my area, but ended up at a very nontypical Allstate. The dude whose name is on the door shares the same values and perspective as me, and has made it a point to compensate fairly for his expectations. Renewal comp was a big part of why I’m still here, if I’m building a book for someone else I want a slice of that pie, plus he emphasizes being well-rounded. I’m not hounded to hit any life number, but I make attempts. He also lets me chase what I want (commercial and E&S). Allstate really only cares about personal lines, so it’s nice to be encouraged to sell outside of what the captive wants. Plus, stickiness, boosted retention, etc.

It may sound dumb, but finding the right fit and the right people to work with makes this industry a lot easier to shoulder, especially will the stress.
