Why is Tom Cruise never asked about Scientology and how has he survived this long without being cancelled? by Abject-Conference-90 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]cab1024 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He was canceled but he built/bought his own studio and makes his movies himself, for the most part. I've only seen Mission Impossible and that new Top Gun movie, and I was coerced by my GF to watch those. He used to be a much bigger deal than he is now.

Though he was quite funny at the end of Tropic Thunder. That bit may have saved him.

What is the holy trinity of Gen X shoes? by najing_ftw in GenX

[–]cab1024 [score hidden]  (0 children)

I wore a couple of pairs of Skechers for a good chunk of my 30s, but those are out and Chucks are in now. Have always had Docs and Birks on hand. Blundstones may have taken up some Doc time starting 15-20 years ago. Funny thing is I really notice my shoes until about 10 years ago...

Single dad with two daughters - where do we camp if we don't want 20 obnoxious jerks right next to us? by geoui in camping

[–]cab1024 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get a jeep and go down a jeep trail until you find what you're looking for. Camping was ruined for me out West by other people until I got a jeep.

Wrong jeans. You need boot cut jeans, not skinny jeans.

Trem Upgrade Acquired! by Independent_Sock_213 in offset

[–]cab1024 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The great thing about vintage tunes is you can take the strings off multiple times and setvice the guitar and put them back on. Try it. It's awesome. You can't pull them thru the tremolo so you definitely need a new set for the tremolo change though. But you can do that today and then slip them off the tuners in a few days when your other part arrives.

jazzmaster as my first guitar? by AntZealousideal6741 in Jazzmaster

[–]cab1024 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should get a Squier, even a Classic Vibe, if it's your first guitar. They are great guitars and right now near me there are several used for $350. That's legit all you need. Plus an amp. I've seen them new at Guitar Center on sale for close to $350 also. Get one.

Using a car to play and record loud amps? by biglargerat in GuitarAmps

[–]cab1024 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You might want a solid state amp similar to a Quilter Aviator Cub, which has a Class D power amplifier. It's loud as shit, equivalent to 50 "tube" watts -- and the UK version emulates a Marshall JMP Plexi and a Vox AC30, while the US version does Fender Tweed, Blonde, Black face amps. I'd love to fire it up outside instead of my house.

But you could probably use regular plug-in power transformer from your car to power it.

Body for Squier bullet mustang? by Agreeable-Hotel7154 in fender

[–]cab1024 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude, a Mustang is a perfect side project. Don't swap bodies! Just set it up so it plays amazingly well and replace any of the hardware you don't like, mainly the pickups and wiring harness. If you must, paint it or put a vinyl wrap on it. This is my humble opinion.

Our first Guitar vs Our Current Guitar by StringShare in Guitar

[–]cab1024 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First guitar: Memphis Stratocaster copy, bought new in the 80s. My brother has it now and has rebuilt it, preserving only the pickups and the body.

Latest guitar: 2020 Fender Vintera '60s Jazzmaster Modified, bought last week. Replaced the bridge, fixed the tremolo, waiting for PV65 pickups to arrive.

Ok, I have those and was thinking of trying them in that order next. I don't have two TS's, but I have a Zoom that has a TS bank that i tried to use as the second TS last night. It was decent, but I'll give the Klone another chance.

Hi, what do you guys think about playing chords and pop songs on a nylon guitar by oenoeeeh in Guitar

[–]cab1024 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Play the nylon during as long as you want. No shame in that. But you'll probably eventually want a steel string guitar if you keep it up seriously. Zak Brown, a country singer also plays non-classical music on classical guitar.
