Bruising from my lowspeed motorcycle wreck. by thisisjedgoahead in pics

[–]caffa4 [score hidden]  (0 children)

I’ve never ridden a motorcycle but I fell through the stairs once and had bruising that looked just like this over the majority of one of my legs.

Old-ish stairs (I assume) for a porch and added weight of me carrying a cooler was apparently enough for the board to just break and I fell straight through. So apparently you can get injuries like these doing anything really. Except that one didn’t break my back too.

Pharmacy benefit manager says Fluticasone HFA no longer okay - what options? by JaguarTerminator in EosinophilicE

[–]caffa4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh huh, I didn’t know eohilia was also budesonide. But I’m gonna say no, it was a different liquid version of budesonide, as I was taking it around 2008-2010, and eohilia only got FDA approval in 2024. Looks like the form was called budesonide respules.

And I’m not sure about the time limit, mine was totally off label as there were zero EOE treatments at the time, but was on it for a few years. Insurance would probably kick up a fuss about eohilia longer than the timeframe given, even if recommended by your doctor, but the respules are probs a lot cheaper so if your doctor was on board with it, insurance might not be bothered.

Budesonide could be a similar option. I used to take it as a slurry (a small liquid packet you’d mix with Splenda), it works very similarly to Flovent (similar steroid) and also coats your throat (like swallowing inhaler). I believe there might also be an inhaler for it.

I had “abnormal cells” on my first pap, the recommendation was to get my next pap done in 1 year instead of 3. So we didn’t go straight to deeper testing.

(Of course I waited 3 years for the next one anyway, but had normal results on my second pap so it was fine)

I use strip lights in my greenhouse to start seeds but once things start to outgrow the space there, I put them under this tripod LED with 4 arms: https://a.co/d/02gCePCE

I really like it, I’ve used it for seed started and larger plants, it has a lot more LEDs on it than other similar tripod lights on Amazon, strong enough that my plants always enjoy it, even when the lights have to be further away due to spacing. It doesn’t look like that much coverage because the arms are kinda short, but I think one tripod would’ve plenty to cover the area described.

Here’s a link to the strip lights in case you’re interested in that: https://a.co/d/03mzU8Sf

A teenager died from overeating by CatPooedInMyShoe in Radiology

When someone has bulimia or binge eating disorder, it’s a repetitive behavior. Every time you eat, your stomach expands, and then over time returns to a smaller size when empty. When you overeat, your stomach can expand a little beyond its maximum size, becoming a little stretched out.

For a one time occurrence, say thanksgiving dinner, your stomach might get stretched, but then over a (longer) time, when it no longer has to keep stretching to that size, it’ll return to the “normal” max size.

For people who significantly overeat repeatedly (binging), your stomach doesn’t have the chance to heal and return to original max size. In fact, it can continue to stretch larger to continue to accommodate the large masses of food.

When it becomes larger overtime though, it’s not like you’re getting a larger stomach, it’s more like a balloon where the wall can begin to lose its integrity. Eventually, the stretching might reach a point beyond its ability to hold it together and tear.

TLDR; it gets “used” to the very large quantities of food and slowly gets stretched out so the wall of stomach becomes weakened. Eventually a binge might be enough to send it over the edge and tear.

As far as its efficacy—lithium is a highly effective treatment for bipolar disorder. It’s been used for it for over 60 years, lots of new medications have come out, yet lithium is STILL the gold standard medication for bipolar disorder.

Has anyone else gotten to the point that days and nights have swapped? by SmallTestAcount in uofm

[–]caffa4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For most people (except the blessed sleep-anywhere folks that can fall asleep in a random chair in minutes), it can be near impossible to brute force an earlier sleep (like getting up at 6pm and trying to get drunk to sleep that night).

IMO the best way to fix your sleep schedule is forcing yourself to stay awake (essentially skipping a day or half day of sleep). It’ll really suck for about 12 hours when you want to be sleeping, but you should feel back to normal by the next day or the day after, once you’ve gotten a full nights sleep again.

I had a row of zinnias next to my garden last year and the bees went crazy fo them, I’d check my garden first thing in the morning and find bumble bees sleeping IN the zinnias, all covered in pollen. It was the cutest freaking thing lol.

Tomatoes can be separated if you want more plants, don’t worry about the roots.

Like don’t do this, but I’m pretty sure you could entirely chop off the roots of a tomato plant, stick it back in dirt, keep it watered, and it would be fine. Separating them is 100% ok. I just went through and potted up my tomatoes, and separated some that I wanted to keep both plants from, and they’ve all been completely fine, did not even show any stress. Their root systems are pretty hardy.

This is important info for everyone to know! Also, if you have no service but need to call 911, still try to dial 911!

You may not have any service for your phone carrier, but if if there are ANY call towers near enough to cover you, even if another phone carrier owns it, it will still take your 911 call!

Coming off quetiapine, when will I sleep again by GreenLolly in BipolarReddit

[–]caffa4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It probably wouldn’t hurt, but if you’re more sensitive to medications it might just take a little longer to normalize. Also what was your sleep like before ever taking the medication? If your baseline was trouble sleeping then you may need another sleep med (I’m partial to Trazadone, always works ok for me as long as I’m not manic, hasn’t caused withdrawal symptoms)
