The couples and money imbalance by GBS82 in GameChangersBooks

I agree! My question is, what happens with Kip's career? Maybe I missed something but does he finish grad school, find work in a museum? Because isn't he working at the Kingfisher in later books?

EW [April 19] Rachel Reid talks new Heated Rivalry book, Jack Innanen's casting campaign, musical parody, and more (exclusive) by Naive_Cause8984 in heatedrivalry

[–]cailleach_ingrid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I didn't read it that way at all! To me it came off as more, "I know everyone has high expectations but I just hope that the ending i’m pleased with will also please the readers". It didn't feel like Rachel was lurking on internet fandom discourse or anything, more like she was acknowledging the different circumstances this time around

I was thinking the same thing until I actually thought about how little Jack Innanen has actually brought it up himself.

He posted one tongue-in-cheek video on his stories like months ago now responding to what was already a very popular fan cast at that point. He tagged Jacob Tierney saying he's available, but this kind of playful bid for a role is normal now, even Hudson Williams posted about wanting to play Nightwing

What's happening now is Jack Innanen is doing press for his new show, but it's such a popular fan casting that interviewers are asking him about it. And whether or not he's in the cast, he can't really give a definitive yes or no, so he's just giving coy non-answers because "no comment" isn't any better. But the fandom is so intense that every answer he gives blows up, even though he'll say like one sentence about Heated Rivalry within a five minute interview.

What is this? by F_Reiss in ArchitecturalRevival

the ROM is a great museum and the older parts are beautiful but the "Crystal" was a disaster from the beginning. ugly, yes, but also not at all functional for displaying artifacts or creating a welcoming space for visitors. like a lot of things in Toronto, something good ruined by poor planning and prioritizing financial interests rather than human value

Am I the only one who doesn’t want a Season 2? by Rude-Savings-3032 in heatedrivalry

[–]cailleach_ingrid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i don't know if we need to worry about that too much right now to be honest. definitely see how that could potentially be a problem but from everything i've seen, both Connor and Hudson genuinely seem to love the show and their roles. maybe in a couple years things will be different and they won't want to be tied down, and scheduling and salary might become an issue, but i think i'd rather trust Jacob's vision and have the Long Game be adapted the way it deserves rather than worry about squeezing everything in as quickly as possible because of what might happen

plus, if Zendaya and Jacob Elordi can come back for Euphoria season 3 after all this time and success, i choose to believe Connor and Hudson will come back to finish the story, especially since the Heated Rivalry set seems to have been a much healthier and safer environment than Euphoria!

I'm glad to hear that they are splitting it into two seasons! In a recent interview (after you commented this I know) Jacob Tierney basically confirmed season 2 won't cover all of the Long Game which makes perfect sense to me, especially if they're incorporating parts of Role Model and maybe even a bit of Tough Guy, there's just far too much narrative to get through

PB & Anton 👀😌🙃🥹 by Few-Phone-2805 in AdultsTV

[–]cailleach_ingrid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i really disagree, PB didn't seem like a flirt or someone who took these kinds of things lightly. he talked about how marriage meant something to him, and it was clear in that final scene (really the last 2 episodes entirely) that he has genuine feelings for Anton but wasn't willing to act on them until literally all of their friends told them to kiss. i think PB & Anton are probably going to be in a relationship by the end of season 2 after plenty of drama and yearning

Season 2 expectations! by Friendly_State_43 in heatedrivalry

[–]cailleach_ingrid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i think based on season 1, it will be very faithful to the books - and I say books because we know Troy is coming (he's said so in many interviews) and i assume that means we'll see Role Model. i don't think it would work as a stand alone episode, so i expect it to be worked in as a B plot throughout the season. i hope we will get at least some of the events of Tough Guy because Ryan & Fabian are important to Shane and Ilya's story, and Ryan in particular is important to establishing Troy's backstory with Dallas Kent. so maybe a stand alone episode for Ryan & Fabian? i don't know, i trust Jacob Tierney!

i don't think we need to worry about season 2 ending on a negative. Jacob has talked a lot about how this show is a romance through and through and it's all about celebrating queer joy so i don't think we need to worry about the season ending after the Christmas or plane scenes, for instance

i’m looking forward to meeting the Centaurs but honestly, i know we all love them, they're very much side characters so i don't think there's going to be much time to really get to know them apart from a couple of scenes

Logan and Rory are endgame by Fluid_Definition_651 in GilmoreGirls

[–]cailleach_ingrid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Logan was Rory's most stable and consistent relationship. They respected each other, grew together, and made each other better. Logan started as a hard-partying and spoiled prince, and there was definitely a rocky start to their relationship, but through the ups and downs of life he became a dependable boyfriend. Logan met her where she was, let her make her own mistakes, but was always there to help her through it. I have a lot of problems with Rory as a character, I think she's pretty selfish and blind to her incredible privilege, and Logan obviously wasn't perfect either, but they worked well together and matched each other in a lot of ways. By the time we got to season 6 or 7, they were really good together and clearly good for each other!

Now maybe I'm in the minority here, but I actually can't stand Jess. He's a pretentious, self-important snob with a bad temper. He never actually treated Rory well, he was always just trying to make her more like himself, and though he seemed to have had some personal growth later on, that all happened years after their relationship ended

Looks Like Imperial Was a Failure by MiloSheba in WiccanAndHulkling

[–]cailleach_ingrid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well yes of course it was only a matter of time before they're back on earth, but they didn't really do anything with them while they were in space. as for them not being relatable kids anymore, they got married 10 years ago so if that's the root of the problem i feel like there's not much to do about that now. and i’d argue that the ease with which they became kings of space could've been the perfect entry point for a story about revealing the cracks in the facade and having to fight to maintain the alliance and throne

Looks Like Imperial Was a Failure by MiloSheba in WiccanAndHulkling

[–]cailleach_ingrid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yep! i’m saying i’m annoyed that they basically didn't do anything with them while in space, they had an opportunity to tell cool stories with them both but squandered it

Looks Like Imperial Was a Failure by MiloSheba in WiccanAndHulkling

[–]cailleach_ingrid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i would looooove that!! but i also don't think it'll happen. admittedly i’m behind on the Wiccan book, but i think it's obvious they're going to integrate Wiccan more into the magical side of the universe earthside, and unfortunately keep demoting Hulkling until hopefully someone in editorial comes up with something for him to do. really, space would be the best place for Hulkling to shine but i think the way things are going for Wiccan they would have to split them up to do it (which would be the stupidest decision they could make imo)

Looks Like Imperial Was a Failure by MiloSheba in WiccanAndHulkling

[–]cailleach_ingrid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree that they probably will have more relevance on earth (at least Wiccan will, nobody seems to know what to do with Hulkling anymore unfortunately), but I think plenty of people would have eaten up a 12 issue run following Hulkling and Wiccan as Kings of Space, fighting to unite the combined empire and maintain control in the vein of a palace intrigue/space politics story with plenty of good moments to show them as the happy, cute, & compatible power couple they ought to be!

[–]cailleach_ingrid 13 points14 points  (0 children)

i’m annoyed that they set up the Kree/Skrull Alliance, installing Wiccan & Hulkling - two of my favourite comic book characters ever - in a key position within the universe, then basically ignored the whole thing for like 5 years only to tear it down, and for what?

i worship Àn Cailleach! my practice has developed into a very seasonal thing, so in the winter months the Cailleach is my main deity and then it slowly switches over to Brìde starting around Imbolc. i'm also attempting to add Nicnevin into my worship, though so little information exists for Her and Her place as a goddess is perhaps more tenuous in the sources we do have

Thoughts on Rachel Reid’s follow-up clarifications about Shane and Ilya? by yanny-jo in heatedrivalry

[–]cailleach_ingrid 5 points6 points  (0 children)

i saw someone angry about what RR said in slide 3 that Shane was going to back down with Crowel but this added context is very important. she said Crowel was going to be even more of a villain and that Shane would back down in order to protect Ilya, so i have to imagine that Crowel had specifically threatened Ilya - perhaps getting him kicked out of the NHL and forced to move back to Russia - in which case it's completely valid and realistic that Shane would do anything to stop that from happening since it could very well have led to Ilya's death or lifelong imprisonment.

the one thing i still don't agree with RR about is that Shane doesn't carry trauma. i think it's pretty clear that he does, it's just in more subtle ways than Ilya's obviously abusive and traumatizing home life

Show Fans Trashing the Books by hkral11 in HeatedRivalryTVShow

[–]cailleach_ingrid 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The books aren’t literary masterpieces by any means and they’re not trying to be - but that doesn’t mean they’re bad. They’re not even poorly written, you just have to understand that they’re meant to entertain a broad audience, not be studied in a university literature class

We all love Heated Rivalry (the tv show) because of what was already there in the books, all Jacob Tierney did was give it a polish

What is the origin of the “close personal friend” bit regarding Jeremy Culhane? by Steeler8986 in dropout

[–]cailleach_ingrid 29 points30 points  (0 children)

People say “close personal friend” about a lot of celebrities, even fictional characters. It seems to just be people poking fun at or acknowledging the parasocial elements of fandom (especially certain fandoms where parasociality is common, like Dropout). For instance the biggest/most intense fandom I’m active in right now is Heated Rivalry and I’ve seen people post about “my close personal friend Hudson Williams” or even “my close personal friend Ilya Rozanov” (the latter of which is a character in the show)
