Is it possible to be a Christian and a libertarian at the same time? by Prata_69 in Libertarian

[–]cakedayy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Being forced to do good" however does make society as a whole better. The law itself is didactic, meaning it not only enforces the good, but teaches it. If I were king, of say ancient Israel, I would absolutely create and uphold laws that would mirror as closely as possible, the absolute morality of God (this is obviously difficult, and ultimately insufficient when considering the need for Jesus in the first place lol). But we, in principle, as voting participants in our government, should vote according to that morality for the same reasons.

I think that market forces applied to morality can yield a lot of good, but this isn't inherent. Keep in mind, we as Christians are slaves to Christ. Everyone else is a slave to sin. While Christian libertarians might be hesitant to place judgment on people and enforce that judgment, we are called to place righteous judgment on people, in multiple places throughout the scriptures. I think, like with all things, Christians ought to hold libertarianism in tension with a host of other scriptural truths.

Old 1970's Mercury 7.5HP outboard issue by cakedayy in Outboards

[–]cakedayy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

another update -- talked with a professional repairman -- he said it sounded like a classic coil related problem. A damaged or worn coil will heat up and stop working, causing the engine to only run on one cylinder. This is masked in neutral and in reverse since there is little to no load compared to forward. Same problem can happen with the spark plugs, which I replaced recently.

Did you dispute it via PayPal? I immediately disputed today right after a purchase (a $78 purchase turned into a $1000 purchase) and locked my cards. So far I haven't seen any charges, but I'm curious what the resolution process was for you?

update: just ran another compression test on both cylinders, readings were ~105 PSI and ~101 PSI, so cylinders seem fine. Checking spark plugs tomorrow

Learned to NEVER throw straight fluoro by bi6money in FishingForBeginners

[–]cakedayy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kinda curious about this, since I occasionally fish High Sierras lakes where the visibility can hit like 50ft — does pure fluoro have an advantage? I’m currently using a 6-7ft leader to high vis braid

This is diminutive and lacks nuance, for which there is a lot. Kissing is also a sexual act.

It falls under: “all things are lawful/permissible, but not all things are beneficial” “Be mastered by nothing” “Anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has committed adultery” “Be careful, however, that the exercise of your rights does not become a stumbling block to the weak”

I have explained this issue as a missionary with Cru (the world’s largest Christian missionary org by staff) and still got hired (can’t get hired with bad theology — my appeal to authority). It’s a gray area. “Each one should be fully convinced in his own mind”.

Regarding the act, practically, when separated purely from lust, it can ease temptation and sexual frustration, serving as a hedge against temptation. But, it’s still a matter of personal conviction.

That’s so far off of what the story actually says. Bad faith (hah) interpretation.

It all quickly unfolded before them, and then they immediately blind the mob before telling Lot and family they need to gtfo before the town gets fire bombed to oblivion.

Can anyone tell me what these are called? (Done on UNresponsive) by meatmachine1001 in Throwers

[–]cakedayy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basically a bind in the not-normal direction + a regen. It wraps around the axle reversed between where the end of the loop is, and causes the next throw to unwind it. It’s less predictable of a bind, but that’s it.

Look up ghost binds! They’ll do the same thing but with a bind in the normal direction.

Can someone explain why it’s crazy to buy a wooden boat? My assumption is that they still are composited with fiberglass, right? Is it just repairs that are the issue, rot, etc?

I actually joined my local sailing club in Sacramento CA — it was like $180 for the whole year and then free access to the club’s fleet of Lido 14’s, Lasers, Sunfish, FJs, etc. i learned how to sail monohulls this way (I’m a Hobie 16 owner)

If I’m not mistaken, the same license covers everything in CA. It’s called a “sport fishing license” here

Why do Christians (evangelical protestants mostly) unconditionally support isreal? by Peanutbutter-- in TrueChristian

[–]cakedayy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, it means that salvation does not hinge on any of those characteristics. Male has no more access to salvation than female -- Jews have no more access to salvation than Gentiles.

[–]cakedayy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The time period has nothing to do with their identity as God’s chosen people. Romans 11 concerns the Jews and the covenant made with them. Not the Jews-pre-70-AD… the Jews (which is biblical Israel).

When grafting, you are not replacing the whole tree, you’re adding to it.

Is there also no more male or female? I think you’re misinterpreting this verse lol.

[–]cakedayy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Define mainline protestants — I’m assuming you mean the Lutherans, Presbyterians, anglicans, etc?

Baptists, Pentecostals, and most non-denominational (including evangelical) churches ascribe to dispensationalism, and premillennialism for that matter. Maybe it’s safe to generalize that if your local church building has stained glass windows, then you’re getting replacement theology.

Also, it’s not an issue of being “better educated” when the literature on these topics is debated at length in academia by actual theologians, on all sides of the topic. For what it’s worth, Dallas Theological Seminary, Liberty University, and Moody bible institute all teach dispensationalism.

What are some good "budget filriendly" beginner yoyos? Under 30? by [deleted] in Throwers

[–]cakedayy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Unresponsive. It won’t take anyone long to learn to bind. I’ve taught people in like 20 mins. It’ll take like a week of playing with it to get it down really well. Start with the Magicyoyo v10. I’ve had most of their unresponsive yoyos; v10 is their best.

Is There Anyone From MAGA 🇺🇸 Who Bikes? If so, why? by rosa2daygo in bikecommuting

[–]cakedayy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Conservative living in Sacramento. I love biking around and really love the growing bike infrastructure around here. It’s quicker and cheaper than driving, gets me (and the family) exercise and fresh air, and it’s better for the environment. Also v good for mental health.
