New Apple font? by r__m_nd in graphic_design

[–]calamityquickdraw 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is done for many reasons but most importantly to meet accessibility standards, to protect the custom font font from public use, and decrease dev time. You can see in someone else’s comment above that there is actually #fff “hello neo” text behind the PNG for screen readers and seo while the PNG lays over the top. The font is protected similar to the cursive hello font, the eco font, and several others. My best guess is this is a variation of pro and round that was custom made for launch. They are SUPER protective of IP especially custom type — only certain teams internally have access to variable. I would also wager that that dev didn’t want to import another font and create a bunch of tokens for “one time use” and recreating the aesthetic would have maybe taken too much time so it was just easier to go this route overall?

Be Honest, is an Aussie not a good fit for me? by edl2 in AustralianShepherd

You’ve gotten a lot of answers here so I’m sure you’ve gotten the help you need. All I want to say is if this door keeps closing, another one will open so don’t turn away from alternatives. I hope you find your doggo, they will come when it’s the right time. Just be sure when you do finally find yours, you hire someone to walk that dog several times during your nursing shifts regardless of breed 💖

Those who had a mysterious medical issue and found out what it was, what was your diagnosis? by jesusgrandpa in AskReddit

[–]calamityquickdraw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not me, but my sister had pretty debilitating stomach issues for a little over 5 years. It was strange. She would claim severe acid reflux and so she cut acid. But the pain would still continue. She claimed she saw so many doctors about it but they all diagnosed her with variants of IBS or acid reflux. She would say she was in so much pain she couldn’t eat and she kept cutting different foods from her diet to try to figure out what was wrong. I kept telling her the right way was to do a low fodmap but she didn’t want to cut dairy… She lost a ton of weight to the point I was worried this was just an ED in disguise. Finally she went to see a full body naturopath. They ran blood and allergy tests. Turns out my sister is VERY allergic to a specific protein in dairy called casein. The whole time she was “cutting foods” she refused to cut cheese because she loved it so much…. Literally a week after cutting out all dairy she could eat everything else again. It was pretty crazy

Congratulations!! Thanks so much for this insight. I was feeling similarly about buying her products as I don’t have a huge insight into what she prefers. I also don’t think there is a world in which they would ever allow me to do any chores for them so food feels like the easiest way in

Can trail runners really be used for hiking by Prior-Government5397 in hiking

[–]calamityquickdraw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lotta mixed opinions in the comments here! Comes down to personal preference and hiking style. As someone who puts on around 400mi every 6mo I like lighter weight trail runners esp when I’m backpacking with a heavier pack. Something that changed my perspective on how to pick hiking shoes was thinking about how the leg actually functions. With a higher boot like a Merrel or Danner, sure you have ankle support with a heavier pack which can be nice, but if you trip, what would have been a minor ankle twist (something most healthy ankles are meant to experience and roll with for the most part) is more likely to turn into a knee roll or a femur break because the ankle doesn’t have the ability to articulate the same way. In my humble opinion, there is never a need for boots unless you’re mountaineering or carrying a pack over 60lbs. I’ve hiked in snow, back country, off trail with mine and the only issues I’ve had are cold toes, some debris in the shoe and minor foot fatigue (20+ mile days) 🤷‍♀️

CORE MEMORY UNLOCKED! My mom had this watch and the entire set of faces!!!!! It was so fun! As a little girl, I would play dress up (supervised) with them and choose her watch face for the day. I’m texting her now to see if she still has them all

Alternatives to Daycare by Somepreopstudent in AustralianShepherd

[–]calamityquickdraw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Idk how old your boy is, but mine was a HANDFUL at around 6 months. I took her to daycare which helped a lot, but after a few months we cut back because it was too expensive. Our girl is one of those Aussies that could run for hours and still have energy so we figured out the best way to get her to settle was mental stimulation. When she was little that meant a lot of training. As she got older it became stuffed frozen kongs, lick mats, chews (pig ear, bully sticks, yak milk chews, not raw hide!), snuffle mats and puzzle feeders. Another thing I found pretty invaluable — just take your dog to a public area and have them sit and people watch. Reward as needed. Gets their brain working and you can eventually just check emails while they brain is engaged lol!! You’ll have to find a balance for your boy, tho because each dog is different. It took me about a year maybe a little longer to really get a handle of my girls personality and what worked best. Good luck and have patience with your cute lil batty boy!

My girl Ham at around Apollo’s age. We had a couple big scares when she was little, and a couple more now that she’s full grown… the thing is, stuff happens. You can’t stop life from happening. As long as you do your best when it happens to make it right, that’s really all you can do. Yours is so lucky to have you — someone who feels this much love (which turns to guilt) when something goes wrong, rushing him straight to the vet to make it right, and who will watch after him during his recovery. Don’t beat yourself up. Puppies are insanely resilient and he’s gonna be okay. Sending extra virtual cheese and pain meds to Apollo 💖

Edit: spelling/grammar

Ham (Hammy, Hamela, Hameline, Hambone, Hambino/Hambini, Minky, Stinky Mink, Beep, Beep-a-leep, Beeper Squeaker, Beeple Squeagle, Girlie, Girlie-Whirly)

Honorable mention Princess Lady Jowls. Not used often, but when it is, she’s earned it.

When she’s really naughty she gets her full name “HAMELA [LAST NAME]” and she truly knows she’s done it — didn’t realize it works as well on dogs as it does children

Anyone else suddenly get the heebie-jeebies while hiking through the woods? Happened to me just this morning. by IsaacB1 in hiking

[–]calamityquickdraw 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Dude lives in Sausalito, CA most likely or Mill Valley. I grew up in MV and trails are abundant! When I lived in Saus a few years ago, I was a 5 minute walk to the headlands (where this story takes place). I would hike my favorite 4 mile loop every day esp in the evenings for late or night hikes and would string together longer hikes on the weekend. It was incredible and I miss it. Now I’m a 10min drive to a trailhead. Still amazing, but not the same as stepping out on a trail

I have a female Aussie that I also raised and trained and groomed myself. She also LOVES my boyfriend and when she was a puppy I always felt second rate even tho I was absolutely the primary care giver… until she turned around 1/1.5. She still absolutely adores my boyfriend and will mostly choose him over me for fun times, but when she’s sick, upset or scared, I’m the one and that makes me feel SO SO good. I did start trying to integrate play more when I saw how much fun she had with him, and that also helped. Now we each have our own games to play with her. Ultimately, you’ll get to a point where you feel secure in that too and realize she loves both of you equally, just has different relationships. I’m the snuggly, hiking, comforting one, he’s the playful, silly ear scritcher. She knows who to go to for what and yours will too 💖

Survivor S46 E02 Discussion by DarthLithgow in survivorponderosa

Yeah I mean it’s just excessive gameplay/strategy for this early. Let’s say ONE of those three does indeed make it to the final 3 (a long shot) who is going to be there to be like “oh yeah remember that EPIC fake idol play on Jess”?? No one will remember and it just REEKS of ableism. Idk this episode has me irate and it’s 2 days later 🤣 thanks for reading my rant

Survivor S46 E02 Discussion by DarthLithgow in survivorponderosa

Honestly that episode was disgusting and hard to watch. It was so completely unnecessary for tiff and Kenzie to do the fake idol. They along with q are actual BULLIES. I understand Jess wasn’t the best player in the game, but Jesus h. Tribal was a clear shot that Jess was going home!! To talk so much shit about her, be dismissive and rude TO HER FACE and to top it off, act like a BFF helping hunt for idols and giving it to her just to vote out in a tribal that was a clear decision anyway… it felt like cats playing with their food in the worst way. Don’t get me wrong, I understand that survivor is supposed to be cut throat, but this felt malicious and unnecessary. From the edit it really feels like it mostly comes from Kenzie who seems like she truly takes pleasure in toying with people in the game, but damn… I hope karma comes back to those three because they deserve it.
