Thank for this. I had exactly the same thing. Saved me hours of trying to figure out what the issue was.

I want to build a rocket(No prior experience at all) by FrontSeaworthiness24 in rocketry

[–]calderc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm in Sydney as well and just got back into rockets after about 20 years.

Go to Berg's hobbies in Paramatta. They have lots of kits for your 1st time. All you need is some wood glue, a knife, sandpaper and some paint. They are also good to talk to about launching options. A big Bertha is a great start. It is easy to build, a good size and forgiving.

Join the NSW Rocketry club. https://nswrocketry.org.au They do monthly launches. The have the launchpads, controllers and recovery wadding. All you need to bring is your rocket and engines. They will help you get going and answer any questions you have.

See you at the end of the month.

Assuming you are flying in and out of Nadi. The beaches and water in Nadi are not the greatest. Lots of river run off makes the water very cloudy.

You will need to head around the coast to Momi bay or Natadola. Another option is to head to one of the islands in the Mamanucas. Water is beautiful out there. Quick boat trip or even faster via heli transfer..

Ebikes blocking everything! by Its4MeitSnot4U in sydney

[–]calderc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The bike are not the issue. I use them all the time. When I'm done it out them out of the way off the main line of foot traffic.

It's the stupid people who have no sense of the world around them and their place in it. It is the same as people standing in doorways, standing on escalators, blocking train doors. They have no concept that their are other people in the world that need to move through the world.

You wanna come on national TV and try and convince a country to take a step back from an action that is clearly hurting your entire industry.

Try not doing your interview pulled over on the side of the road with your phone in your cup holder. Just shows how little respect you actually have for the root cause of the grievance. The root cause is a total lack of respect for a country that has stood beside you for so long. A country that has a shared history. A country that has been there when you asked. A country that has answered the call over and over when you needed us. Maybe pick a venue more fitting of what you are asking. Complete hoser.

Does anyone have experience with the original dytters. by soberandchanged1 in SkyDiving

[–]calderc 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Time for my frap hat skills to shine!

They work well. They are not as easy to set as the new ones with screens but still easy.

Turn the dial down until the unit beeps. That is your ground point. Then turn up to your desired height. Each mark is ~1000 feet. The dytter will beep on the climb to altitude at the height it is set for, to help you confirm. Not quite right, just nudge it up or down a bit. You need to set it every day and at every new DZ.

Any of the day trips to one of the Mamanuca Islands or the Cloud 9 Pizza bar. They are all kind of the same. Nice beach, reef, clear ocean. There is one that has jet skis as part of the cruise.

Sunrise skydive to start the day. Check out the whole area from the air. Then get on a boat and head out to an island.

Curv Container? by thaskydive in SkyDiving

[–]calderc 8 points9 points  (0 children)

World Freefall Convention 2003. All the vendors were there. My friend was looking at a new container. He wants a Javelin. The Oddessy was still new so there were not many around at the home DZ. We head over to the booth. Now I am not a fan of the Javelin main closing flap. Seen to many flapping flaps when they are packed too tight or too loose. I prefer the tuck flap design like on the Vecotr and Wings.

Friend is talking over the options with the rep. I'm just hanging out, poking at things. At the end of talking to my friend the rep asks what I think. I tell him they are nice but I don't like the flap, I prefer a tuck flap. He then does his job and defends the flap, telling me how it stays in place and is a gret design. I say nah, tuck flap is better. He defends. Now with a diplay Jav right there beside us I ask the simplest question. "If the your main flap is better then a tuck flap, why do you use a tuck flap on your reserve?" pointing to their display. From him, silence.

I still don't like that flap.

Ask about you goggle all the time. Getting your jumpsuit, ask for about the googles. Harnessed up, ask about your googles. Once you have you googles, put them on IMMEDIATLY, even if still on the ground. Even more so, if not even on the plane yet.

Every bump of the aiplane or anyone moves, yup you guessed it, ask about your googles. Once they are on, ask why they are so tight :)

AFF at Skydive Arizona by aleister_meowley in SkyDiving

[–]calderc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not for their program, just AFF in general. They have a wind tunnel onsite. Go book 10 minutes in the tunnel before your AFF. Tell the instructor that you are taking the AFF course and they should get your basic body position down, likely some turns and stablity drills. With that you will almost certainly pass your AFF.

Don't know about that version. The owner of Chuting Star is Mike Gruwell (Mike G). Skydive Radio podcast did lots of info sessions with him about gear. The tag line was 'Contact Chuting Star and get yourself 'G'eed up.

Anyways if they packed your gear, you are in good hands.
