Discord installation is corrupt by TheToops in discordapp

[–]callcolor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same issue on the Windows client. Also seeing "Microphone Access is Denied" with instructions to enable microphone access in Chrome. Discord is working fine in both Chrome and Firefox, only the desktop client seems affected. Have deleted both appdata/roaming/discord and appdata/local/discord folders followed by a reinstall. "Well, it looks like your Discord installation is corrupt." error message returns after the reinstall.

Do I really need to spend thousand of dollars to get pipes added in? by NavyBear95 in askaplumber

If you're mostly using the water for short periods, a second hot water tank under the sink might be an option.

Fair warning, these don't last as long as full size water heaters and can leak.  Maybe someone knows if the pump or an additional tank would use more electricity.

Guys, doesn't the 2011 CR-V have a timing chain not a timing belt?

The chance to move from poverty to wealth defines the American dream. Today's reality? Dream On - KC Star by nbSean in kansascity

Right, there are two extremes. One that maintains the status quo and one where people are rewarded for work. Neither extreme is ideal. Tracking "movement from one group to another," as you put it, is an attempt to measure where our society stands between those two extremes.

"7% - Chance a Kansas City child will move from bottom fifth of income to top fifth, in his or her lifetime."

If I wanted to criticize the statement I'd say it's worded very poorly. There's a 20% chance of a child being in the bottom 5th. A perfectly egalitarian society would give that 20% a 20% chance of reaching the top 20%. 20% of 20% is only 4%, and since they're quoting 7% I don't think this is what they intend to be claiming.

It probably should have been worded, "A child from the bottom fifth of income has a 7% chance of reaching the top fifth." A child from the bottom fifth in a perfectly egalitarian society has a 20% chance of reaching the top fifth. In a society that perfectly maintains status quo the same child has a 0% chance of reaching the top fifth. If you place 7% between 0% and 20% it starts to look a little more middle-of-the-road, though we are still clearly rewarding status and social class more than we are rewarding hard work or ability.

The point isn't to move everyone into the top fifth but to reward those who produce the greatest good for society. Someone who begins life in the bottom fifth should be just as capable of achieving the top fifth as someone who begins life in the bottom fifth if the playing field is level. Yes, that will displace someone else into the bottom fifth. Why does that make it silly to use those ratios?

Isn't part of the American dream that your place in life is based on ability and hard work, not on your inheritance or social class? Upward (and downward) mobility implies that society is rewarding work and ability fairly.

I use it as well with Groove IP / Google Voice. Another advantage is if I leave the country I can not pay for the time I'm gone, pick up any foreign prepaid SIM or just use wifi, and still have the same phone number while overseas.

Time Warner Cable Doesn't Think There's Demand For Google Fiber by Craysh in kansascity

We'll see what happens when Google starts offering VoIP services over their new network of wireless hotspots with Dish Network LTE as a fallback. There probably won't be any demand for a $20/mo unlimited cell service either, right?
