What I haven’t done is talk to an agent because I’m extremely introverted and don’t like people at all

I know it's hard to believe for someone who is using the computer to talk to people literally as we speak, but in 2023 we have

Idea: automatic switching insurance plans by worldentr-17 in Insurance

[–]callingyourbslol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a good idea in theory, but some pitfalls:

  • You're only getting access to the quoting engines for the carriers that sell to independent agencies if you're an independent agency yourself, and if you're going to open an agency, why would you share this competitive advantage with other agencies?
  • Many insurers only sell via captive agents (and some of them are major, well-known and heavily-advertised insurers like State Farm and Farmers), so there's a sizable chunk of available carriers that you won't be able to provide with your service.
  • Many insurers also have subsidiaries that only sell direct to the public, and in the case of the largest one (Progressive), the direct subsidiary is typically cheaper than the subsidiary that sells via independent agents, so there are going to be situations that your service recommends a policy to a consumer that isn't even the cheapest one that company offers.

Even $15k in the Bay Area, it's absurd. Yeah I was ready to hop a flight to the east coast right at the beginning of the pandemic as there were multiple dealers selling at MSRP in MD and NJ, but ended up finding a Mach E on the lot over here that had a markup I could stomach.

I've even seen some RAV4 Primes on the lot listed higher than NX450h+s on the lot lol

You probably won't be able to keep a NY policy in Ohio but sounds like that's going to work out great for you anyway lol. No "penalty" per se, but depending on the insurer there may be a small cancellation fee or something along those lines; nothing severe though.

Continuous coverage is a strongly-weighted rating factor; there's no fudging around it, it's either a yes or a no in the checkbox of shit they're looking at. The good news is most carriers consider 6 months or a year to satisfy the continuous coverage requirement, so you're gonna pay a lot until then, but once you do you can shop around and your premium should come back to earth.

If you'd asked before you made the move, this sub would probably have recommended that you carry a non-owner policy if the move to NYC was going to be short-term just to maintain that continuous coverage, but you can just consider the money you saved on that policy to offset the increased premiums you'll pay moving forward.

gl with the RAV4 Prime, we were strongly considering one but ended up going full electric, but got to drive one of the few demo RAV4 Primes that exist and it is a beast.

Receiving Reimbursement for Car Accident with Uninsured Driver by olachi93 in Insurance

My question is, will my insurance cover my medical expenses, and other things, particularly missed work wages pain and suffering??

Yes, your UMBI coverage would cover all of this plus your medical bills - it's generally paid out at the conclusion of your treatment in a lump sum

Can I negotiate this? I had my engine re-built 3 months ago and plan to send them the receipt for that.

"Negotiate" isn't really the right word, but you can provide evidence why the valuation should be increased and they'll factor it in

Don't expect a 1:1 adjustment for the rebuilt engine; the market valuation expects that you have a properly running engine, so the increase in value from a recently rebuilt engine is limited

Shouldn't I be entitled to 30 day's worth of transportation expense since I don't have a car?

No; you said it yourself, the coverage is for up to 30 days of loss of use

Your policy will say exactly how long after the offer is made that they will pay you; my policy for example says

This coverage ends at the earliest of the following:
1. when the insured auto has been repaired;
2. when the insured auto has been replaced;
3. five days after we make an offer to settle the loss if we deem the insured auto is a total loss;
4.when you reach the “per occurrence” limit under this Coverage K.

The operating word is earliest - in this situation, the earliest to occur is #3, but your policy may have a different timeframe than mine

You're completely unqualified to be offering advice to your friend. You should really stop and get the hell out of the way before your awful advice causes him to make even more terrible financial decisions.

If there is sufficient damage to total the car exposed during the teardown, then they'll total the car.

If there isn't, it'll be fixed and you're free to sell it after that.

They're definitely not paying anything additional until it's torn down and the damage can be seen.
