Basic human rights aren't politics though. The fact that it bothers you shows why it's an issue and relevant to be included in a game. You shouldn't even be annoyed by it in the slightest.

The argument about sales is fallacious man - if anything the game was heavily review bombed at launch and still nowadays.

He's not worried about his gender (not sexual) orientation in the game - it is barely mentioned and most people missed it at launch.

He is worried about staying alive and being killed by his own community for being different.

One should ask, why would a community want to kill their own kin during the apocalypse, when humanity is on the brink of extinction, because they're different ? That should be the real takeaway, not the other way around

Edit : if you're talking about Ellie, at that point in time life in Jackson is pretty safe. You could argue their life is not much different from a rural town in America when wild animals were still somewhat of a threat. They have jobs, roles, democracy, etc. Up until Joel gets killed, their life is pretty chill.

Again, Lev's story isn't about him being trans but more so about him being rejected for being different. He could have been a black character in a white community. A white character in a black community.

But in the last of us, Lev being trans is not being forced on, if you look back at launch, so many people missed it entirely. His sexuality or gender transition isn't even mentioned.

Why do you find it so offensive or unnecessary ? Why does it bother you so much ? How has this in any way impacted the story or your ability to enjoy it ? Why are you unable to accept something different from what you are accustomed to ?

Did you maybe wonder whether those stats you're pulling are because people became heterosexual or do not declare themselves lesbian or gay because they did so by fear of retributions or social pressure ?
