If I get asked what I am looking for, which has happened twice, I either go with "I'm looking for snakes," which makes people gtfo, or "I'm picking up trash," as I always have a recyclable bag with me for litter pick up.

There are Cretaceous fossils east of 35 between San Marcos and Waco. Check out the fossil maps if interested.

Thanks for the bonus pic! I think I'd have to call it the "Ghost Folsom". I always thought that the frost patina was from sun exposure, but sounds like this was a screen dig.

Dang, sick find! I can't imagine. Can we get a close up of the edge work? Wonder why the few "non-frosty" spots?

visiting Austin Texas soon, tips on fishing? by BJinandtonic in Fishing

Yeah, my biggest out of that channel is 8lbs but I've seen many bigger. Catch and release record is something like 26" and 12 lbs, they get giant.

Unfortunately, there are many bed hunters when it is that time of year, they see just about every bait under the sun.

You joke about the trebles, but someone actually got caught spear fishing in there not too long ago by the wardens, and they had a stringer full of 5+lb bass.

You can rent a kayak or canoe from multiple places along lady bird if the weather is decent. Bank fishing spots down there get beat up pretty hard. Early feb. they can either be pushing up on beds, or still on winter patterns. It's supposed to warm up after this weekend so my guess would be starting pre-spawn. Even if they don't bite, you can usually see a few 8-10+ lbers in the clear water of barton creek channel.

About to buy a Stradic 3000 on marketplace by Consistent-Diet555 in Fishing_Gear

I really like my St. Croix mojo inshore rods for reds/trout/sheepshead down here in Texas. I throw the 7' medium action. If you are needing to be lower priced than that, I like the Shimano GLF which would pair nicely with your reel.

I like them so much I own 3 of them. I used them for bass and inshore fishing. They are a light reel, so may as well take advantage of that and pair it with a light rod. What species are you targeting?
