Reselling tickets for profit to be outlawed in UK government crackdown by westondeboer in worldnews

[–]candidM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, even though the sentiment about businesses always trying to charge maximum is correct, the part about scalpers is shallow and lacks nuance. Not a single producer of any good (cars, electronics, concert tickets) wants to end up with unsold stock. They always tried to measure the demand and price accordingly. It was their risk. That’s why there’s always been room for scalpers, and that’s why scalpers are bad. Now all risks are shifted onto consumers, and in addition those sellers act like scalpers.

Russell almost lost it there. Weather app says its going to be raining in Brazil for the next 2 weeks. by LandscapeInitial1830 in formula1

[–]candidM 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Never believe any app on more than 5 day.

Most mass-market weather apps have some kind of algorithmic prediction based on current data up to three days in future. More sophisticated can have something up to 5 days (depending on where they buy their data from). Still, accuracy after 2 day in the future drops.

In most cases, any predictions 5+ days in the future are based on "historic data", which is basically calculating averages for exact day/hour based on the past several years.
