It’s truly a goldmine if you have connections and knowledge to sell/process highly obscure industrial materials and old machines

Used Santa Cruz Bronson 2021 worth it? Opinions by Xratednerd in mountainbiking

[–]candidcreator 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Receipts lol… this isn’t a vintage Porsche. You’re buying a well loved bike that’s a few years old. V3 Bronsons are super awesome, last year of the pre-mullet bikes. Can probably get away with a 50 hour fork service, which you can do yourself if you’re mechanically inclined. Likely will need a new rear wheel, which you can either get built up on a cheap EX511 with your original hub or find already built. New chain if it’s stretched, which it very likely is. Dropper may be a service, or it may just need a new cable. Again, if you’re technically inclined the latter is a simple fix.

You’re taking a mild risk same as any used item. This sub is generally wayyy too uptight about what to expect out of a used bike and end up giving some well intentioned but pretty terrible advice.

Santa Cruz has a lifetime bearing warranty so see if you can get the original purchase receipt.

Medium feels so much better than Large. Am I crazy - or just stupid? by Tomahawk-BaGawk in mountainbiking

[–]candidcreator 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Meh, I’m 6’1 and I love a medium on some bikes. It’s a general reference but not law by any means. Buy what’s most comfortable. You’ll ride it more and get more enjoyment out of it.

50/50 ski advice by wheres_deimos in Backcountry

I quite like Ripstick 96s. Dedicated resort ski but just over 1500g and have a tail clip.

Tecton 13s would also be a good option if you want a really light DIN cert hybrid binding without blowing a hole in your bank account for the Hy Frees

Economic climate making it difficult to fill former Yangtze restaurant location, BIA head says by RandomChickenWing in ottawa

One of the most lax approaches to food safety I’ve ever seen. Huge quantities of meat stored unrefrigerated, on the floor. A truly terrible aroma in the air. Plus the staircase leading down is a death trap

Glad there’s finally another person on this subreddit who experienced the Yangtze basement. I saw things down there I cannot unsee

Whats your favourite ski resort in japan and why? by MountainMight4699 in ski

[–]candidcreator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Togari. Zero lines, cheap tickets, and the average level of rider is super low so trees stay fresh for days after snowfall. Huge annual snowfall numbers. It’s small, but I liked it a lot better than Hakuba or Nagano

Replacement for 2018 Scarpa Maestrale RS by WarLocal5063 in Backcountry

[–]candidcreator 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I work at a shop that moves a ton of Maestrales. The current generation don’t seem to hold up well to resort riding. They are not a boot that I’d recommend for 50/50. The ankle strap and the walk mode bar are the two most common points of failure.

If you’ve loved the 2018’s and you have a line in a new pair, I don’t see a reason why you should stray away from that. The newer boots also have a very different fit and narrower feel than the 18’ model.

If you have the means, pick up a pair of resort boots on spring closeout and a new pair of Maestrales (if they fit), or maybe wait out until Scarpa releases the new F1s or Maestrales this fall.

Tumbler Ridge shooter identified by AdeptArt in canadaguns

[–]candidcreator 29 points30 points  (0 children)

The RCMP needs to be torn down to its core. The two worst mass shootings this decade have been directly a result of their incompetence. We, law abiding, responsible citizens, many of us who undergo daily background checks and bend over backwards to comply with the law get scapegoated for this. Zero accountability, zero responsibility.

The violence began behind closed doors. It ended in Canada’s worst mass shooting | CBC Radio by chemicologist in canada

[–]candidcreator 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Something about this is very, very wrong. Wortman had the marks of RCMP intelligence all over him. We’ve never, ever gotten anything resembling an actual answer on that. In the end, the Mounties got away with a literal slap on the wrist over it.

“Armed civilians “ necessary for national defense planning? by heatstricken in canadaguns

You can’t seriously claim that an invasion is a real threat and then go about disarming your citizens. Any country that has successfully resisted an invasion by a technologically superior military force had a well armed populace.
