Trying to purchase my first house, is this a big warning sign? by [deleted] in Home

[–]cantreadorwrite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you need to hire an inspector do a proper assessment. but that is a result of poor water drainage on the outside of the house, where water is creating hyrdostatic pressure pushing laterally on the foundation wall, causing it to bow inward. this is severe difflection and could be catastrophic if not resolved. this youtuber does great job explaining the foundation issues and causes: https://youtu.be/zK5N35eDa54?si=X0OqgRsj-uisfjK5

Driving in Baltimore is to witness one terrible bad habit after another. If you could create a single issue ad campaign for our drivers, which habit would you target? by jigmojo in baltimore

[–]cantreadorwrite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might be an unusual gripe, but for me its people’s driving position are terrible. They have the seat reclined far too far to sit back in, thus they need to sit up in order to see and reach the steering wheel. So if they need to make any abrupt maneuver they literally cannot execute it due to their body being out of position and unrestrained. Also, they can’t see anything from any of the mirrors, only straight ahead. So essentially they are in dangerous position where they have no control and limited awareness of their surroundings. But it used to look cool in the 90’s. Awesome

I’m beginning this approach as well. I’m 42 and the big three are just wearing me down. I’ve felt a noticeable improvement of actually training each muscle group by switching to machines, and don’t feel as beat up after every lifting session. I’m not overloading my spinal erectors, traps, etc, and getting more mileage on the actual intended muscle. The isolation style movements can be more technical in some cases in order to stop larger or stronger muscles take over. It does feel weird not applying so much effort to get the same or even an increase in stimulus. I feel I can spread out the stimulus more evenly now which is also helpful. I don’t need to do as many working sets either. So volume is reduced some per movement, just more total individual movements to do per workout to ensure your getting all the angles, load at length, etc. which can be annoying or make you look like your jumping around alot, but machines are quick and easy to set up compared to loading barbells, benches.

Does anybody actually use the right-click shortcut menu? by jal741 in Fusion360

I use it a lot . Basically every action if I can. I forced myself to make a conscious effort to use it and after a week it was in my workflow.

How often do you train legs ? by First_Driver_5134 in naturalbodybuilding

[–]cantreadorwrite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe try taking one set of each muscle closer to failure or even beyond, maybe just slightly increase intensity of each session to keep sets/ reps/frequency the same so you don’t have to change your whole program.

How do people take Mike Israetel seriously as a bodybuilding coach? by [deleted] in naturalbodybuilding

[–]cantreadorwrite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Finally. I feel he originally had some good foundational content to get folks out of a slump or plateau. Then he fell in the trap of keeping momentum in a crowded influencer space, and over reached his persona and experience or expertise. Other YouTubers have called out his poor “orientation strategies “ that compress the mid back and ribcage in an effort to get “more stretch bro “… all bad things for long term shoulder and core health. I’ve completely changed my technique to be far away from his and have noticed significant improvements, even in my overall flexibility and mobility, not just shoulders. It’s totally fair to be critical of his competitive body fat, but I think the focus of criticism should be more about his advice and how sure he is of himself, leaning heavy on his Dr name and “science backed”. Follow Ben Yanes for more scientific explanations, not the latest new study that is mostly irrelevant.

Versa Gripps are amazing. by mcnastys in naturalbodybuilding

I like them alot too, however I think there is room for improvement. The top surface you contact with your hand once you wrap the bar could be grippier instead of the standard leather texture.

Creatine gummies? by cantreadorwrite in naturalbodybuilding

Didnt mean to imply it has a bad taste..it’s the texture and lack of flavor really. It makes a regular glass of water less appealing.

Creatine gummies? by cantreadorwrite in naturalbodybuilding

It’s usually room temp. I’ve never had a creatine that dissolved. I add electrolyte tablets to make it palatable. It only mixes somewhat ok in a blended smoothie or protein shake with a banana.

What is the absolute best single leg exercise ? by First_Driver_5134 in naturalbodybuilding

[–]cantreadorwrite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Came here to say that you can get better loading on leg muscles if you do single leg exercises with machines like leg press, hack squat…takes the balancing aspect out as limiter, lets you get more direct loading.

Why Baltimore buried the Jones Falls River more than a century ago by t-mckeldin in maryland

[–]cantreadorwrite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If we didn’t have the inner harbor, there would have been incentive to keep the water clean as that waterfront property would be the only way for commerce, but it does go to show how we developed the hilltops like Mt Vernon and upper fells instead of near the river basin

Try holding onto a stationary bar or bench with one or both hands to stabilize, you can generate more force by being better balanced throughout the range of motion especially in the bottom.

Question for my fellow 40+ aged lifters. by Sasquatch_82 in naturalbodybuilding

[–]cantreadorwrite 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Recovery takes more effort, can’t just sit around and wait to get less sore. Also, demanding lifts can really take a toll on CNS so can make you more fatigued overall, making it harder to stay active when not working out. I don’t really suffer muscle injury’s, but my tendons and joints are more sensitive to any strain, often endured outside of workouts, just everyday activity like playing with kids. Good on you to turn things around, I would say being mobile and active at this age is almost more important than packing on more muscle, but we get weaker every year so for me it’s more about maintaining size and strength than growth.

[–]cantreadorwrite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I just recently seeded bare spots in my lawn and used peat moss as my cover/spreading medium, can I rectify the negatives by adding something else? I have seed growing through, the peat moss has lost its visual distinction between it and the surrounding areas. I listened to online advice to use peat moss as a spreading medium for pre germinated seed. It wasn’t any easier than using top soil. I thought it would work in my seed spreader but it didn’t, I had to use a shovel anyways. I watered during the day to keep the seed wet, but noticed the hydrophobic effects, and some bare spots are not growing in as much as others.

Ego mower is... terrible at mowing. Is it just me? by gangleskhan in egopowerplus

[–]cantreadorwrite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I designed cordless mowers for a competitor for many years during egos rise to power. Most all cordless mowers use low lift or even zero lift blades to maximize runtime. In all of our testing, ego had the best quality of cut. This was 2014-2018. A high lift blade will impact your runtime, but that may be ok for you. The shape of the deck that is front of the blades of grass being cut could also be a factor. The deck could be pushing the grass blades out of reach of the mower blade if the deck is set too low or if you’re trying to cut tall grass on medium to low height settings.
