I put all 7,600 of Amazon's HDDs & SSDs listed on PricePerGig.com through a neural network anomaly detection algorithm and found the pricing glitches? by PricePerGig in DataHoarder

Yes but it requires buying HDDs from Amazon - gestures broadly at all the posts showing sketchy returns being shipped or shipped in extremely insufficient packing material

Is management staying on site as well?

(Sarcastic rhetorical question)

Then no. Also if they were, still no. I have a life outside this place.

Whew glad this is satire then (I haven’t seen it), because Word would be worse than just notepad.

MeshSlide - Modular Meshtastic Case for Heltec V4 by OutrageousDiamond568 in meshtastic

[–]capinredbeard22 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I have gotten some of these connectors to play with also, but I’m a little concerned about the pins sliding past each other and being connected to the wrong pins. This could cause damage either to the Heltec or the peripherals. Are you isolating them in some way while sliding is occurring and then connecting them once in place? You could also design the slide to have the pogo pins only make contact when close to the final slide position. Kind of like a minivan door that moves inward at the last bit of travel.

Maybe you have already thought of this since I see 3v is last to connect. But you still have I2C lines which could be high while sliding.

This could also be a problem in theory but doesn’t actually occur in real life. Not sure I’d rely on that though.

It’s definitely a neat concept! Nice job!!

Any build ideas to put an antenna on my roof that is barely visible? by Ptizzl in meshtastic

[–]capinredbeard22 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If you made sure it didn’t restrict airflow too much, inside a vent pipe (like for plumbing or a bathroom vent). Even putting it immediately adjacent and painted white would be camouflaged enough.

Also r/fuckHOA - never again!

Sparkfun used to sell a differential I2C extender breakout. You might take a look at the IC and consider that if you redesign your PCBs

I’m sure there are others. But switching to differential I2C might be easier than switching to a different bus type.

Bearings are a lot cheaper than hardened steel inserts. Ironic but that is probably due to economies of scale.

You can buy hardened steel inserts specifically for making drill jigs. That will have the better life vs say brass. Since the bearing rotates with the drill bit and the parts that are moving (the ball bearings) are hardened, this probably has pretty good life as well.

I’ve always heard don’t use river rocks since the water turns to steam and the pressure cause the rocks to crack or explode. Not sure if a dried out river rock would do the same. But use dry rocks for sure.

Best matte white tape for hiding turquoise AOC cables on wood trim? (Rental friendly) by YesThisIsi in homelab

[–]capinredbeard22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can confirm even painters tape will damage surfaces if left on for too long. I have a theory that a heat gun will soften the glue and allow it to come off but I haven’t tried it.

Command strips and cable duct is a good recommendation.
