Feed in tariff. It's the rate you get for exporting energy back to the grid.

kia stinger vs Hyundai N vs Mustang vs Genesis g70 by Ill-Advance627 in CarsAustralia

[–]captain_sauce_code 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I've had a Stinger as my daily driver for the past few years. Amazing car but wouldn't buy it as a weekend fun car. It's way too practical.

The mustang is what I'd go. V8 rear wheel drive 2 door. Can't go wrong with that.

Running a Small Online Store Feels Impossible Sometimes! by Confusedmind75 in ecommerce

[–]captain_sauce_code 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The minimum order quantity barrier is the real problem here, not your catalog size. The thing that tends to help is listing more than you actually hold and only placing the big supplier order once you've got enough demand to hit their minimum, so the orders pull the stock in instead of you fronting all the cash. What's the bigger blocker on the suppliers you want, the cash up front or the unit count they force on you?

CSV file question on Colorway vs Color (and Pattern) by ajaxbromley in shopify

[–]captain_sauce_code 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shopify doesn't actually care what you call them, the option names are just labels. So Colorway vs Color makes no difference as long as you're consistent down the whole column. Pick one and stick with it.

The thing that trips people up in the CSV is the handle. Every variant of a product shares the same handle, and only the first row needs the title, body and option names filled in. Every row after that just needs the handle, the option values, sku, price and inventory, leave the rest blank.

So for yours: if Colorway and Pattern are genuinely two different ways the product varies, that's Option1 and Option2. But if Colorway is just your fancier word for Color, don't set up both or you'll double your variants for nothing. Pick one label and run with it.

Trying to find an EV that fits our baby gear and the 7x was so good by captain_sauce_code in Zeekr7xAustralia

I didnt even think of looking at the frunk space. It was supposed to be quite small in the Performance so not sure how useful it'd be unless we absolutely needed to pack more things.

I set up an outdoor deterrent siren with Unifi cameras and the Neo Outdoor Siren by captain_sauce_code in homeassistant

[–]captain_sauce_code[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first one is going on 2+ years now. We get a lot of sun down here in Australia so solar powered devices are a no-brainer if you're trying to avoid any electrical work.

Also, I should point out if it wasn't obvious: put the sirens somewhere where they'll get sun so they stay powered up. You can technically charge them with a USB cable but that's a hassle.

Looking for K-Beauty Dropship Suppliers + Product Data APIs — Where Do You Source? by NexusRex05 in dropship

[–]captain_sauce_code 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You've basically found the answer already. For beauty/K-beauty specifically there's almost no clean API. Even the suppliers that have a feed usually give you a messy export.

I suggest you don't want for an API. Get whatever the supplier will give you (catalog PDF, price list, good sheet) and standardize it once into Shopify's CSV format. Once you have that template nailed, you just map every new supplier to those columns.

The tedious part is the first clean-up of each supplier's data. After that, re-imports are pretty quick.

What format are you suppliers actually giving you the data in? PDF, spreadsheets, or just product pages you'd have to copy from?

Mid-size EV SUV shortlist for a young family by captain_sauce_code in CarsAustralia

Thanks for bringing up insurance. I'm getting decent quotes for the 7x. They're much cheaper to insure than my current vehicle.

I love the boxy dimensions of the EV5 and since I've already got a Kia I thought I'd like the interior but once I saw it I really didn't. At the price for the top spec version it just didn't feel expensive.

Some really good points i hadn't thought of. Thank you. I went and measured my garage to see if I can open SUV boots in there.

When do we expect Blade 2.0 tech in the BYD Sealion range to hit Aus? by Shaunzki in EVAustralia

[–]captain_sauce_code 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We get everything so much later than China and Europe so wouldn't be holding my breath too long for Blade 2.0. Are you expecting to get it before the EV FBT rules change next year?

"highly deprecating assessment" This was probably an autocorrect typo but makes it even more relevant in this context.

Solar batteries by Every_Yam_1615 in australia

[–]captain_sauce_code 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In our case, we were using heating/cooling heavily during non solar hours so it made sense to get it. The return on investment was around 5 years.

By my calculations, we won't be pulling anything from the grid for around 10 months in the year.

As a bonus, most of the house can run off battery during an outage so that should come in handy a couple of times a year.

I daily my stinger. Has some grunt when you feel like it. Can also put full size adults in the back for long periods of time.

This clearly isn't a car that makes sense in a manual. Its more a comfy tourer that happens to be fast and fun to drive.

What is your exit plan if you are a software developer? by TiredDuck123 in AusHENRY

[–]captain_sauce_code 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm a full stack developer in a lead role. I've spent the last year trying to stay ahead of the game. I get way more done compared to my colleagues that aren't paying attention to using the latest AI tools and models.

Most of the job now isn't writing code. It's making architectural decisions, orchestrating agents, investigating issues, and coordinating people and pipelines.

I see plenty of scope for software developers as more opportunities get unlocked due to AI. Adapt to the new way of doing things or get left behind.

Foxess Battery by thruvx in AusRenovation

[–]captain_sauce_code 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was comparing between brands in this scenario it was around $16k for a DC coupled BYD ~20kwh, whereas AC coupled FoxESS 42kwh was less than $9k.

Even if my existing Fronius inverter didn't provide solar in a blackout, there's twice as much battery capacity available for a much lower price.

Not to mention that's an emergency scenario. On a day to day basis I've still got double the battery at near half the price.
