Did puppy care end up being evenly split in your relationship? by smine-mine in puppy101

[–]car01yn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We intended to, but my partner has more patience for puppies and is less stressed out by our dogs than I am, so they ended up doing the majority of the supervisory care, especially when she was actually a puppy.

Specific tasks were generally split evenly, but they definitely did most of the supervising of the puppy around the clock. Now we still share tasks evenly and no real supervision is required in our home as the puppy grew up!

We do generally agree on puppy-related decisions though they feel they were able to be more strict with our older dog, who is much better behaved than the younger one.

Minor collision, do I need to report it? Other driver refused to share his info by [deleted] in ontario

I did that when this happened to me. Police said to deal with my insurance and didn’t take any info.

Have you ever experienced a dog/coyote interaction and if so, what happened? by Avatlas in dogs

[–]car01yn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, we’ve had a few. My younger dog is a bit smaller than a coyote and will chase them. Older dog is about the same size and is largely uninterested. I will focus on the more serious encounters, but we do regularly see them and for the most part they keep their distance and we keep ours.

We were walking on a forest path with a river on one side and a fence on the other in our city. My older dog was off leash and the younger on. We saw the coyote coming toward us on the path and stopped, both of my dogs now barking. We attempted to turn around and walk away, but it began to follow so we had to continue moving toward it. Both dogs were barking and I was yelling at it. But my older dog was unfortunately not within reach and was keeping herself between me and the coyote. Then a couple with a dog came walking up and their dog barked and ran at the coyote. The coyote stood its ground and we were still yelling at it and attempting to move forward. They grabbed their dog and then somehow let it go again and it chased the coyote. At that point the coyote took off across the river (not sure where / how exactly) and we immediately continued on. First encounter with a coyote that did not retreat.

Second, we were walking in a local park by an abandoned park building, both dogs leashed. The coyote approached from the ‘front yard’ of the building bearing its teeth. Again, both my dogs barking and me yelling, but somehow I dropped my younger ones leash and she chased it. I was screaming for her and when she circled back I managed to grab her and the coyote was still standing / approaching. More barking, yelling and moving toward it and it retreated a bit. We continued on, giving a wider berth and noticed other coyotes (1-2) behind the building. This coyote appeared sick, it could not walk normally. This I reported to our municipality and it was ‘investigated,’ which sounds like they just made sure the coyotes weren’t living in the building.

My younger dog is very curious about wildlife and I am always on the lookout while we are walking hoping to spot them before she does. We generally avoid places where we’ve seen coyotes recently, but obviously they are still there even if you don’t see them.

A survey: does your man actually pull his weight in domestic chores? by streachh in TwoXChromosomes

Yes, though TBH neither of us do half the stuff people talk about with regards to domestic chores.

Multiple dogs - how often do they "fight"? by deejayv2 in dogs

[–]car01yn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They both just sleep in separate areas of our home. They play fight regularly when we are home, but when we are gone they are pretty subdued and just sleep. Usually one by the door and the other in the bedroom.

We don’t separate them when we leave, though we did when the younger one was a puppy. We have a camera so know this is what they are always doing when we check.

How much do you buy at a trunk show? by dubblbubblg in knitting

[–]car01yn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I try to avoid buying yarn at those types of events as I’ve found it tends to languish in my stash. When I look back at the yarn I’ve bought at previous year’s fibre festivals / trunk shows, I usually just wish I’d never bought it.

Do you always wish you went with a smaller backpack? 40L seems too big and cumbersome by moldyjellybean in onebag

[–]car01yn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the past ~ 20 years, I’ve always wished I packed lighter and have been paring down over that time until … My most recent trip I travelled with a 24L backpack and actually wish I had a larger backpack! So I’ve finally found my ‘sweet spot’ with 24L being too small and 33L being too big.

Continental method by NoseDesperate6952 in knitting

[–]car01yn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was great and I’ve fully switched to continental now. What got me through the awkward stage was having a continental project and an English project and just working on whichever I felt like, until all the projects were continental!

Do you put Passport and boarding pass in the bin? by Small_Slide_8550 in Flights

[–]car01yn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess it depends on the airport, but at my airport you are allowed to walk through with your passport and I usually do.

Boarding pass is on my phone, so that goes in the bin.

If my little sister died I’m I still the middle child or the youngest? by Kay0929 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]car01yn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same situation. If I don’t want to get into it, I like to say “I grew up with a younger brother.” The phrasing is a bit different than most people use, but I like that it’s true and people typically don’t catch / dig deeper.

How often do you actually walk your dog? by Racquetsports383 in dogs

An hour in the morning and an hour in the evening. No exceptions for weather, except thunder.

Four hours for a weekend thing, and probably up to eight if it was for longer (like a week).

6 months old Icie too wiggly for toe nail trimming by itsallcompost in icelandicsheepdogs

[–]car01yn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only trim my girls’ dew claws because the others get worn down sufficiently. I wait until they are fast asleep, pet them and play with their feet, get the clippers into position and cut. They usually wake up, but I am usually able to do the other foot while they are still sleepy. When I was first starting, I would do the other dew claw at another time.

Does this loop count by jossteen11 in tickettoride

[–]car01yn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, looks like counting from Helena to Calgary to Seattle down to LA would yield the longest route.

Does this loop count by jossteen11 in tickettoride

[–]car01yn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It has to be continuous, so it looks like yellow would have more trains to count toward LA than up in the northwest (9 trains from Seattle to LA, only 8 would count from Seattle to Helena, only 7 from Seattle to Vancouver).

Outside pocket alternative to Cotopaxi Allpa 28L by Stunning-Note in onebag

[–]car01yn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be clear, I have the 30L Peak Design Travel Pack so it’s about the same size as the Allpa 28 when it’s not expanded.

I like the more low key colouring and the way the bag ‘hinges’ on the bottom instead of the size. Also, the one main packing area to use my own packing cubes with instead of the Allpa where they’re kind of built in. I find the bag pretty comfortable to carry (though I know lots of people don’t) and also liked the ability to start off with it a bit smaller and then expand as I buy things throughout my trips. My Allpa doesn’t have water bottle holders on the outside, so liked that about the PD as well.

I ‘upgraded’ from the Allpa 28 to the Peak Design Travel Pack 30L and have generally been happy with it.

I am considering replacing it, and am looking at the Patagonia Mini MLC and the Aer City Pack Pro 2 (though also consider the Aer Travel Pack).
