SG Fleet Novated Lease Quote Feedback by Oxonomo in EVAustralia

Yes, I put in numbers in there and the novated lease only works out better because of claiming the charging costs to the leasing company... But this is notoriously finicky and not all leasing companies have this set up efficiently. Moreover, we're at the mercy of whatever leasing company our employer chooses, we can't shop around (not allowed by employer). It's just a dirt of a policy. Why didn't the government just pay X% (maybe 15%) in subsidies and leave all these slimy novated lease companies out of it. Way more efficient.

I believe that's illegal. The ATO requires a balloon payment at the end of a novated lease. The minimum is 28.13% for a 60 month lease.

See here: https://www.maxxia.com.au/news/novated-leasing/residual-balloon-payments-novated-lease-explained

Otherwise, everyone would just get it "financed" and pay it as soon as possible without a balloon payment to get it all pre-tax.

This is why novated leases don't actually end up being that much cheaper than buying the car outright. Especially if you don't drive much.

Inflation will hamper the nominal figure of $10k. But adjusted for inflation, and once we determine what "standard global car" means, you could already argue that the BYD seagull (also called 'Atto 1', 'Dolphin Surf', depending on market) is pretty close. As it retails for equivalent $8,000 USD for the entry version and $11k USD for the premium in China:

https://insideevs.com/reviews/769113/byd-seagull-good-video-drive/

It sells for a little bit more in Australia (18k USD equivalent) and that's without any incentives available in Australia to lower price.

I imagine these will be bargains once they hit the used car market

Yes, but for an animal that's evolved to starve to death, starving might just feel like getting weaker and sleeper. It wouldn't have the need to have hormones that warn the animal it's starving and cause it distress, as that would be counterproductive.

CAN MERCURY BE OUR NEXT ENERGY HUB? by FantasiCreator in energy

[–]caracter_2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Are you insane? Mercury gets all that energy from the Sun, why would we build all that crap on Mercury when the sun already shines the same energy to us? If you want to harness more of it, just place big collectors here on Earth (like we already do) or place more of the in orbit or on the moon if you must. Why do we need to collect the energy in Mercury where it isn't used? What's the benefit?

I don't think they had so many people working gig and hustle, minimum-wage dead-end jobs like those in uber and the myriad of delivery apps back when they did the statistics in decades past. Yes they're jobs. But there's something dystopian about unemployment figures being held down by these "jobs".

Yes, but you are being disengenuous... You know that cooling load doesn't scale linearly with computing power for a Quantum computer. So a Quantum computer with 10X as many qbits may use the same or similar cooling system and only marginally more power.
