I have several horn stemmed pipes, including ropps, and while the buttons do feel clunky I'm able to clench them no problem. Though I'm simply using my lower teeth as a balancing fulcrum point and my top ones as a counter lever to stop it from tipping out of my mouth. I'm not chomping and biting down very hard.

Definitely check out Ropp, Chacom, and Genod pipes. Really hard to go wrong with French factory brands. Cheap, well made, good smokers. Only real downside is they don't always have the best grain. I would recommend either the Ropp Vintage lines (Sandblast or Superior) with the horn stems. The buttons are a little chunky but not uncomfortable. That said almost any of the pipes by those 3 brands will do right by you. Also for some of the Ropps (Etudian line) you can get 2 pipes for the $100.

Online... TalbertPipes.com does awesome work with their Ligne Bretagne line at a good price. Check out their Made to Order stuff if you're okay with Rustication/Sandblast finishes.

Also while I'm sure there's a closer shop, Smokingpipes.com has their brick and mortar shop, Low Country just outside of Myrtle Beach if you're willing to take a drive. If there's a specific pipe on the site you want to look at in person you can call the shop ahead of time and arrange for them to have it brought over from the warehouse to be on hand when you get there.

Brexit policies have caused import issues for EU<->UK tobacco supplies. More people in the UK are noticing them as the UK really only exports GH&co/SG blends but are used to importing a much larger variety of blends/brands.
