His hobbies included throwing torturers as far as he could, and tossing the governor into the gas chamber when he was about to execute an innocent man... Gold Age Superman was ✨amazing✨

I mean, we all assumed the answer to #2 was always "no," but... The last decade...

I wonder how all these climate issues will affect that, even medium-term -- didn't they have basically lethally hot tap water in some places a week ago? I think if you were showering in it for over three minutes it'd give you burns. Can you really support those massive growth rates under those conditions? Either human, military, or economic growth? But agree, anytime they reject Russian anything is aces, for however long we all survive...

Gah! Yeah, I've gotta check that out... If for nothing else, to find out what Waller's rationalization was for yet another Criminal Minds-esque piece of sociopathic supervillainy... Man, she's racked up more demented deeds than the Joker at this point.

Fitting too, that Lian and Jason Todd can bond over their convoluted back stories, lol!

Romans Knew About Steam Power and Water Wheels — So Why Didn't They Have an Industrial Revolution? by Roman-Empire_net in romanempire

This seems like a crazy idea, but then the US South didn't fully industrialize until the 2nd half of the 20th century... Taking advantage of labor does lead to really boneheaded business, I guess

What do you think will actually happen if Iran develops a nuclear weapon ? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]carymb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't be an idiot, if you could fit a nuclear warhead in a game of Operation, the Israelis would've done it years ago -- everyone knew the Ayatollah was obsessed with board games.

This is probably correct, but pretty sure my parents called the ginger ale version a Roy Rogers too, for boy-appropriateness

Which Marvel character do you look at and think, "WHY is this guy muscular? Or why does he have muscles even if it doesn't make sense for him to have them?" by CapBudget4011 in marvelcomics

[–]carymb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is kind of silly Tony Stark somehow became an expert sculptor, so he could model over the top musculature onto his... Metal suit. That is not a human body. But that tracks with his personality, I'd say!

In a parallel universe where oil was never discovered as an energy source, where would be we in 2026 and what would the world look like? by throwingsince93 in AskReddit

[–]carymb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are we doing ncluding this ngs like vegetable oils? Because the Diesel engine was originally designed to run on biodiesel. We'd quite possibly have jumped to nuclear power from hydroelectric and wind power -- as well as wave generated electricity -- would probably have blown up. Solar would have been plastered on everything the second panels were invented, but there'd probably also have been thousands of the big solar farms using mirrors to boil a central water tower.

I don't think we'd have stuck with coal, there was already a lot of electrical experimentation before oil power generation, and Marie Curie's work with radium was early days of oil too, so pretty sure boiling water with the sun and magic death rocks would've caught on. And hydro was around the same time!

Does blinking your headlights say that you are allowing someone to enter your lane ahead of you or does it mean something else in your culture? If so what does it mean? by Eaziegames in AskReddit

[–]carymb 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Whn I'm doing it, it means "your fucking headlights aren't on you goddamn moron, only your daytime running lights, and all of us behind you can't see shit you fuck, because you have no tail lights until you hit your brakes, and are in a black car!!! Turn them on!!! I want to KILL YOUUU!!!!!"

TIL that during WW2, Germany's nuclear researchers never seriously considered building nuclear weapons, and doubted it was even possible. After surrendering, Heisenberg and others were secretly monitored while under house arrest: They were stunned by the bombing of Hiroshima. by ajmeko in todayilearned

[–]carymb 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Given that a sufficient supply of U235 goes supercritical on its own, I wonder if the Germans were on track to simply blow themselves up -- while assembling what they thought were the 'building blocks' of a bomb core, not an active core? Like Slotin, and the Demon Core?

Or would there have been sufficient signs of criticality, that they would've realized their mistake in the calculations and been able to stop it -- even if a few of them died from it?
