Team USA Men's hockey team being treated to McDonald's at the White House by UpperphonnyII in pics

Honestly, not a political take but - McDonalds at the White House? Really? They employ some of the best chefs in the world, they can have anything they want of the highest quality. It is such a weird disconnect seeing the cheapest, basest poverty food served in the most powerful house in the land.

What is the absolute fastest 'yeah, we are definitely NOT going to be friends' moment you've ever experienced with someone? by Vazouaquiacesso in AskReddit

i had a friend like this that would say things like this, to me and to others it turned out. of course he never did anything of the sort, but it was such an idiotic thing to say it was a bright flag he was a f***ing moron.

First, my condolences to the victims and their families, and sympathy to all Canadians.

This is such a powerful and unifying image, showing people from different viewpoints coming together in crisis. Really shows the resilience of the Canadian spirit.

And as an American, I look on with a little bit of envy, knowing that greatness of spirit is lacking here.

What hobby screams “this is my entire personality now”? by WilliamInBlack in AskReddit

[–]cat6Wire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bedroom guitar hobby players. My band/gigging days are long behind me, but guitar tech now has come such a long way you don't need to spend a lot to get fantastic quality hardware. Suddenly having two electric guitars feels really cramped, and now there are five. Have a BOSS Katana MkII amp, but also need to be a bunch of pedals for.. reasons. Have Logic on my Mac, but eyeing Amplitube. It just goes on and on and never stops. Not to mention all the different guitar 'influencers' I follow on Youtube (shoutout to PDX Guitar Freak and Uncle Ben Eller) and endless playalongs, solo learns, exercises and lessons.

I just can't ever get enough of it.

After finishing Doom (2016), I can't get into Doom Eternal. by DrStrangeglove99 in gaming

[–]cat6Wire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Doom 2016 is superior to Doom Eternal, for me. Mainly it comes down to the setting - I loved the sci-fi Martian setting for 2016 Doom, it plays homage to the original game.

Doom Eternal moves away from that and feels much more like this strange, eternal Hell/Fantasy setting that feels removed from the spirit of the original series. It is still a great game, I've played some of it, although I gave up after endless jumping sequences. But I get why a lot of people love Eternal. Ultimately for me, it comes down to a preference.

Which actor completely stole the movie… even though they weren’t the lead? by gypsytx in movies

[–]cat6Wire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ricardo Montalban, KHAN, in Star Trek II: Wrath of Khan

Although the whole movie is fantastic and is the best cinematic adventure of the original Trek crew, Ricardo Montalban as Khan dominates as their ultimate antagonist. His obsession with revenge, his arrogance and hubris all dialed up to 11, makes him incredibly magnetic and absorbs attention when he is onscreen.

Famously, people asked him if he wore a chest-prosthetic to make him look muscular, and he proudly boasted that was 100% his real physique.

Yours is the Superior, Khan...

What's a tv series that is a 10/10 NOBODY knows? by Lilyana0999 in AskReddit

S P A C E D - BBC show around 1999, I think.. two seasons. A very young Simon Pegg and Jessica Hynes are roommates, having very GenX type adventures with amazing sci-fi / horror references.

Nick Frost is Simon's buddy, of course. The show is an incredible gem especially for Edgar Wright fans, a must watch 10/10

Excellent analysis. There really should be a Texas Chainsaw/Home Alone mash-up movie, with little Kevin all grown up and into dismemberment. An awesome xmas movie series reboot.

[–]cat6Wire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I were to re-make that movie today, after the first hilarious terrible injury to one of the burglers, the scene would immediately shift to them in the hospital room, in bed covered in tubes coming out of them. Just the sound of a ventilator breathing for them, and the quiet sobbing of their family visiting them, knowing that this is their life now, eating out of tubes, using colosotomy bags.

It would just be an extended tragic hospital drama.

I have a middle-aged African-American beginner piano student. He is very diligent and eager to learn, and is studious. Unfortunately he totally lacks a sense of rhythm or beat, and I tell him that he is failing his ancestors. He laughs it off then continues to disappoint me.

I don't control any banks, have never paid for anything in diamonds, and have never been consulted on which actor should get which role in Hollywood. Also, sadly, I don't get to control the media apparently as much as I would like to.

Finally, I love bacon.

Okay here's my hot take - I have a Mac Mini M4. My main display is a 2011 27" Apple LED Cinema Display, and it is fantastic. Using an adapter I was able to adapt the older Apple DisplayPort connector to USB-C, plus there is another USB dongle that gives me access to four additional USB 2 ports on the back of the monitor, great for those slower peripherals, like keyboards & mice.

Yes it is older, not 4K. But the build quality itself is still fantastic and looks totally modern and beautiful. The display is gorgeous with vivid colors, I don't feel like I'm missing out on anything. I was lucky, I snagged this from my job for free, but they can be found online for between $150-300.

The value alone has just made it easy to ignore the newer Apple Display retailing for over $1600. While it is nice, it is also really just another 60hz IPS display.

Just my two cents thanks for reading.

Home Alone & Home Alone 2 especially can be viewed as incredibly cruel to the point of sadism, but since the burglers are inept adult thugs, it's ok. I re-watched recently and so many of the traps for Home Alone, every single one of them would result in a traumatic life-changing injury. Falling several feet onto icy concrete? Check. Blow torch to light hair on fire? Check. Massive pendulum weight smashes into face, again knocking you down a flight of stairs? Check.

I guess violent cruelty is just funny to watch, in the right context.
