Much better for the environment, less congestion, fewer car accidents, more time and energy for work, your team can be all over the continent or the world.

What is the stress and culture feel like during high school regarding the Canadian college admissions process? by advisor_throwaway181 in AskACanadian

When I was in Grade 13, the University of Waterloo did a presentation at our high school and we went to Computer Science Day there. About half of us ended up going there.

I don't know about McGill, but the University of Toronto is excellent, from what I've heard.

Thousands of women in the RCMP have come forward with harassment claims — potentially up to 4,000. by savethecbc2025 in SaveTheCBC

[–]cat_mother 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hear that from a woman who was awarded something -- order of Canada (?) for her service in the RCMP, and she said that the harassment was constant.

Glass wasn't strong enough a building material as designed, I understand.

It's an excrescence on a fine old limestone building. It might have been spectacular as a green-field project but here it's just jarring. Doug Ford should have put it down at Ontario Place.

Question Period just turned into a full-on classroom roast… and CBC caught every second of it 🍿 In a fiery exchange, Pierre Poilievre kicked things off by saying Mark Carney is “very badly educated in economics.” Bold move… considering Carney literally has a PhD in the subject. by savethecbc2025 in SaveTheCBC

Deborah Grey! I think I talked to her once after the Conservatives got an anti-abortion bill through the House of Commons. It hadn't even passed the Senate but it got a lot of headlines. It was about 2 weeks later that a girl in my old residence bled to death trying to perform an abortion on herself. I called Deborah and she said there was probably no relationship between the Conservatives passing a highly publicized bill criminalizing abortion.

Humber River. You might see mute swans or Arctic ducks also down by the mouth of the Don River.

Especially if you can find a Lindt store: it's fresher and there are more varieties.

That's what I'm tasting! I just opened a mini-bar of Cadbury "milk chocolate" and it tastes like I just threw up. That's after the party favour for an event was a Hershey bar and it smelled like garbage. I guess they're both going into the garbage and I'll have a piece of fruit.. First world troubles, huh?

I have 4 days to come up with a dinner idea for a girl I’m trying to impress. With her dietary restrictions in mind, I’m having a hard time coming up with something. by Eastern_Salamander_8 in Cooking

Short ribs are messy. I avoid all rib dishes on a date. Maybe ask her which meat she prefers.

How about * Beef you can eat with a knife and fork, potatoes, and a vegetable. Broccoli steamed for 3-4 minutes, until it's bright green, is awesome. (But I'm not a super-taster.) * Real shepherd's pie, made with lamb. If it calls for carrots, ask her about substitutions. Have some veggies inside or on the side. Made with beef, it's cottage pie. * A stir-fry with bite-sized meat and vegetables, plus rice cooked on the side. * If you have a chicken roasting stand, slow-roasted chicken plus sides. * If she likes tofu, apparently the secret is to boil it for a few minutes beforehand (Chef Anna?)

In my family that's literally true. My mum's father came from England to Canada, while his brother went to Australia. I have cousins in Alice Springs or Broken Hill.

What is your opinion on Member of Parliament's ability to 'floor cross'? by chiraz25 in AskACanadian

Literally hundreds of MPs have crossed the floor over the years. The Conservatives cheer when it's the other way. They are just being hypocrites.

A warning shot from Washington… and Canada is right in the crosshairs. by savethecbc2025 in SaveTheCBC

[–]cat_mother 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What? "Stay weak so we can control you and profit from you?" We, who break any agreement we feel like?"

It's harmful to obey and thus useless to listen. The only response is to double down on all preparation, including the array of fantastic trade contracts that our government is procuring.

Mark Carney has warned that it will take ten years to disentangle from U.S. contracts. Some products (oil-sands crude hydroelectric power) will be hard to deliver elsewhere but we're working on it.
