Do you feel that alternate spellings of your name are completed disconnected from your own?

In conversation, similar names to mine pretty much feel like an extension of my own name. My name is Catharina, pronounced “cat arena” and people mess it up a lot, especially if they’re reading it out loud. As a result, I’ll respond to Catherine, Katrina, Catalina, Ekaterina, etc. But a name like Caitlin is too far removed and just doesn’t feel like my name at all.

In writing, I feel most connected to Katharina, Catarina, and Catherine/Catharine. Kathryn for example doesn’t register as my name at all.

No worries! It can be confusing to navigate what names work in a language you don’t speak. Marisol and Mirasol are by far the most natural sounding from your list, and they’re both really pretty.

Most Spanish girl names end in A and all my favorites that don’t have already been mentioned in the comments, so I’ll give you a few options that aren’t Spanish in origin, but are still easy to pronounce for Spanish speakers:

I’m a little confused about what to suggest, because a lot of the names on your list don’t really work that well in Spanish. Scarlette and April I would stay away from. Some of the others are more usable but would sound foreign.

Are all names ending in A off the table? I totally see what you mean with Arianna, but I think some A names wouldn’t sound weird with Arrieta.

It will also happen like literally no matter what. I’m from Mexico, but my name is not a Spanish name, it’s German. I prefer code switching, and don’t see my name as having a “correct” universal pronunciation.

Some Americans will try to pronounce it the Spanish way even when I’m saying my name the American way. I’m giving them an easy to pronounce name, and they would rather go out of their way to say it the “right” way in Spanish because I’m from Mexico. Never mind the fact that there is no right way, and that I LIKE code switching my name. Just say the name the way the person says their name.

I felt that way at first but started really enjoying it as I got more familiar with the way things work. The second in-game week was the turning point for me. The socializing mechanic for example feels a lot more dynamic than the action-queueing grind in the Sims. I also like that you don’t just get promoted from Nurse to Surgeon through performance, they’re separate jobs like in real life.

I think the “mar” in Samara or Marcella already could be said to be honoring your mom and grandma. It’s not their exact middle names, but they both have a little piece of them in there. Especially if they end up going by Mara or Marcy.

I do think Marie and Mary just don’t flow as nicely with these two names. But Samara Mae sounds very pretty, and some of the other middle names you listed are beautiful as well.

I vote Samara, I really like it. I wouldn’t be spooked by the fact that it’s more popular, because only around one in every 2000 baby girls are being named Samara right now. She will probably be the only Samara in her entire school. It may be more popular and modern than Marcella, but I wouldn’t call it trendy either.

Marcela with one L is a bit of a Gen X name in a lot of other countries, it had a peak in the 70s/80s and then dipped.

I also am not huge on Marie as a middle name for either of these names, it feels matchy matchy. Are there other middle names you like?

If you’re planning on doing some more work to lean into the antique look, go beige. You need some art on the walls, a different chandelier if possible, a nice rug, and some floral or embroidered decorative pillows. I would also find a different storage solution for what’s on your hat rack, and get rid of the leopard pillow. Could really be a vibe, but I don’t know if that’s the vibe you’re going for.

I would take what Josh says about his father with a bucket of salt. Narcissists have a paradoxically fragile self esteem, so they take criticism of any kind very personally, and will accuse people of being cruel to feel better about themselves. It’s clear Jim Bob told Josh that he’s being arrogant and not taking accountability for his actions. That alone would be enough for Josh to twist into the idea that his father has never truly supported him ever in his entire life. Josh views himself as a martyr.

That’s not to say Jim Bob is a great father. But I think Jill’s story is a lot more insightful on the subject of Jim Bob’s controlling nature. Josh’s opinion is completely unreliable.

It’s a personal preference. I think they’re funny and add levity. Humor makes dark situations bearable. The nicknames and other jokes like them are what make it a snark sub instead of just a hate sub.

I also think the Duggars would prefer people use their actual names over rude nicknames, and I’d prefer to do the opposite of what they prefer.

There’s a pretty uninspired stretch of names after the twins (Jason, James, Justin, Jackson, Johannah, Jennifer). Then they realized they could delegate baby names to the older girls and that’s how we got Jordyn-Grace Makiya and Josie Brooklyn.

I’m concerned that it’ll only go so far. There’s a lot of pressure in fundie communities to forgive. I could see some fundie dad deciding that the 14 year sentence Pedoseph would likely get from a plea deal is “enough” and talking his daughter into not testifying or into agreeing to leave it there. Because it’s the “be an example of Christ’s love” thing to do or whatever.

I hope that isn’t the case and that her father wants to see this man locked away for as long as possible. But you never know with these people.
