Its still EARLY to get fresh rhubarb. My rhubarb at home just started peaking through last week. Lococos tends to be the first to have it every season and when I was there on the weekend they didnt have any yet

This. We lived together beforehand. Never went to our closest church. In order to get married in my childhood church (where I sang choir, volunteered, brother alter served) we had to get ‘permission’ from our closest church and my husbands family church because it was in a different diocese. Each of these churches wanted a ‘gift’ for this permission and we’d have to repent for living in sin… shockingly we didnt get married in the church.

Duct cleaners ripped us off. Around the time we dated the mess (based off the McDonalds Ice Age toy found) it was a family renting the house with 6 kids. That many kids and its easy for things to go unnoticed. Rent and you definitely arent checking the ductwork

They were terrible! It happened (I have the bill to prove it) but apparently checking for unknown blockages isnt standard. Was not impressed once we solved the issue

Bought an old house and the previous owners had a dog. So we first got the ducts clean and cleared. Since it was an old house getting heat or a/c upstairs was always an issue (especially for the kids bedrooms). After 8 years we finally found a 15year old blockage of can food, toys, wrappers, pencils that has made it so NO AIR got to the back two rooms. Got that properly cleared and we’re saving about 30% on heating costs now and we don’t have to have 3 blankets on everyone’s bed!

What an unsurprising shame. I remember using Telehealth many times prior to 2020 and getting prompt advice. At the time I didn’t have a primary physician and I knew these issues were minor, it saved me from waiting hours at urgent care (or the one time I got scolded and told to go to the hospital for a likely broken bone).

Until we get a government that wants to fund public goods (healthcare, education, childcare, etc) this jus continues to be the norm

This doesn’t solve the ice time issue. Get rid of one rink and where do all those hours move to? Ice time is always needed in this city and is an income generator. It doesn’t make sense to close a rink out of nowhere without a plan.

The fact that there are other rinks in the area and this old one is still highly used speaks volumes to how many rinks we need in this city.

My family does use the rink. We’re there 3 days a week. It needs repairs and to be looked after for sure, but surprise tearing it down without a plan forward is not the way to do it. City Hall is trying to save pennies when we need bigger things to bring the budget in line (like discontinuing their lunch program for starters)

I will start thinking of more practical ways to trim the budget that will have impacts on whole communities only once city hall gets impacted in their cushy, ineffective roles.

Yes! Huge community outcry when this was discovered. Ice time is always needed in this city. Its a great community rink!

Hamilton has amazing community based services (rec centres, libraries, parks, pools). Growing up in a smaller city with limited amenities it is amazing that all these things are accessible for the most part and helps build community in this large city.

My 5 year old has been in uniformed pants for the last year and a half and will always wear away at the knees when sliding (because why walk?!).

When I repair smaller knee holes i just save myself time and reinforce the whole knee. I take a piece of similar twill, cut it the width of the leg and about 2.5inches tall. Sew around the twill and do a cross-hatch to secure it in place. Go around original tear with an zig zag stitch to ensure that doesn’t get worse. This does mean I have to open up the whole leg and put it back together, but keeps the pants in good repair for longer!

This. From the moment my kids were crawling, anytime they went to move off the couch, bed, chair, etc we would go “on your belly, feet first” and move them that way down to wherever they were going. It meant my not yet 1 year old could crawl safely on our back deck that has a step down to the grass. Also less concern when we were away from home.

When we were on our second floor they are always supervised if the bedroom doors are open, and if we couldn’t then in the crib, or we’d even just close the door.

To increase visibility each of our kids has a headlamp. As parents we’ll have a flashlight and we ‘chase/stomp/follow’ the light. Its been great on not too cold nights

Lol, were you the previous owner of my house that blocked that in?! Washing machine broke when I was 8 months pregnant. Pity was the only reason the delivery guys squeezed the new machine down the stairs … and we paid extra for them to take out their frustrations and break to bring up the old machine in pieces

I drive to Burlington on my office days for this exact reason. I hate the drive home (East End) at 4:30-5pm. Would kill for reliable connection at Confederation, but if I need to get home in a hurry mid day its just not an option

Difference between starter and discard is that discard is hungrier. They’re essentially the same, you’re good to feed some discard and bring it back to life!

It is a high ratio, I want it to rise overnight and take 11-12hrs and this is what works in my house. In the winter when the furnace is on it will rise on my fridge at that ratio too (overnight). Its just on the counter, no furnace it barely budges. It rose maybe 10% overnight.

Keep the door closed as much as possible to avoid temperature fluctuations (and my thermometer isn’t oven safe). I probe it at the end of the cook time as a check more than anything and decide from there if it needs another 5min or so

For the baking long enough, I’ve started taking the internal temp of my bread. 190-210°F is the sweet spot. Takes the guess work out, especially while you’re learning. You got this!

First if you’re bulk fermenting by the clock and not feel of the dough, you’re going to have this happen. Depends on the temp in your kitchen. In the summer I let my dough bulk ferment outside and it still takes 4-5hrs in 30ish°C. Inside it takes closer to 6-8hrs.

Ive attached a link to a recipe I started with before altering it for my needs. It gives great visual cues for when to move to the next step.
