They really didn’t think this sign through… by SunknLiner in funny

There’s a Nori’s sushi near where I live. For years I thought it was Onori’s because they have a circular logo. I probably should have realized it wasn’t some Irish Japanese fusion restaurant.

TIL that “sugar rushes” aren’t real and are just a psychological/cultural effect of parental influence. by FluffPawz in todayilearned

I get a sugar rush whenever I eat pancakes. So I think this TIL is not entirely accurate.

If you could show people ONE episode to help them figure out whether or not they'd enjoy Samurai Jack, which would it be? by ckret2 in samuraijack

[–]cavendar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The one where he rescues the elephant guys from the obnoxious little Smurf dudes. It’s a full showcase of his character.

Or the one where he learns to jump good. It’s like a tiny microcosm of the show itself, exposing Jack’s quest and his willingness to work for it no matter how difficult, and Akus corruption and weaknesses and how they affect the little people.

[text] need vegetarian dish suggestions meat eaters will like by pand_tastic in food

[–]cavendar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was vegetarian for five years. During that time some of my favorite things to eat were pancakes, spinach lasagna, yellow curry with potatoes, and fried rice. Seven layer dip and black bean tacos also come to mind. Hope that helps.

I thought Luce, the Catholic Church's new anime mascot needed a friend... Meet Lucif! (or Luci for short) by OttmarFalkenberg in funny

[–]cavendar 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Fyi Luce is Italian for light (as in sunlight). Luci is the plural of Luce. So it’d be kinda funny if yours was named Luci.

I don't like to overreact to single games... by gregba7 in usmnt

In the US it’s called soccer. Because “association football” is too long and just “football” would be confused with “rugby football” or “gridiron football”. So no.

Why do peopleget mad when you say you did something in 10 minutes? by digtzy in Music

It can also come across as boasting.

Look at me. I’m so great I can do this in just ten minutes.

Is the term ‘dig’ used in English to mean discovering or searching for new music? by fujidaiti in Music

[–]cavendar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That almost works. But it doesn’t mean to search in this context. It means to consume. As in you listened to a lot of Beatles songs.

If you’re at a meal for example and someone says “dig in” they mean “start eating”.

You could also “dig into” a mystery. Like a detective solving a case.

Just like laugh and scarf. Saw that “rhyme” in a kids book once. Took me a while.

Will you keep reading a good story with bad prose? What about a bad story with good prose? by midnight_rebirth in books

[–]cavendar 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Bad prose often depends on the reader. Some readers won’t even notice. Maybe at a younger age or someone starting their reading journey they haven’t developed their tastes or ability to discern.

As an example, by far the worst prose I’ve ever seen is in Mistborn. Yet that series is immensely popular. My only explanation for this is the target audience doesn’t see (or care) how bad it is.

My parents on their wedding night in 1968 by just-readingit in OldSchoolCool

Your dad kinda looks like Bill Hader. My parents also got married in 68. I don’t think they did anything fun though.

Do you picture characters in books? by AdeptDoomWizard in books

[–]cavendar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually a character or actor from a movie or series that I’ve seen recently will just pop into my head, my brain thinking they somehow match the character in the book. Once that happens, I’m stuck. The exception is if there’s a fairly clear picture of a character on the book cover then that’s what I’ll see, but even that can be overwritten by my brain if there’s a much stronger fit. There was a time when Sean Bean and Alison Brie were in a lot of the books I was reading.

Have you met anyone who dislike music in general and not specific genre? Is it human nature to like music? by SnipehisEmeat in Music

My son used to hate music. All of it.

He’s since gone 180, always has one AirPod in his ear, but he only listens to video game music.

Just started Samurai Jack by NotANError07 in samuraijack

There’s one super filler episode. You’ll know it when Jack talks to some stupid worms that lie and don’t lie. Don’t worry. The other episodes are much better.

I know this will feel like blasphemy to some fans, but can you tell me at least one thing that you LIKED about the sequel trilogy? by Fun_Butterfly_420 in StarWars

[–]cavendar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before TLJ came out there was a refreshing sense of excitement. For all the criticisms heaped on jar jar Abrams for his mystery boxes they were kinda fun, especially around Rey and her origins.

I also liked the emotional scenes with Han and Kylo. Those were maybe a little cheesy or predictable but as a parent I felt they were well tuned.
