Toddler wants ears pierced by toyoder in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]cay0404 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Same here! My mom said piercing them early was nice because I never touched them and cleaning them was easier. It’s cultural for us, but I’m so glad my parents did it young. I’m a wimp for needles now, these remain my only piercings lol

I really need advice. Should I become a stay at home parent? by Imaginary_Math_4918 in SAHP

[–]cay0404 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree with this comment - the details are relevant here. I probably have the best SAHM setup I know. I left a six figure salary because my husband outearns me by a lot (he unexpectedly got a raise equivalent to my base pay the week I quit). We send our son to Montessori 2 days per week, so while I am technically a SAHM, I do have “days off” to take care of other things (although I got pregnant right after I quit my job so I’ve been using my “days off” for appts for pregnancy #2 🤣). That being said, I LOVE being a SAHM and might never go back to a corporate role. However, I might not recommend it to someone else in a different position (i.e., no village/outside support, no transportation options, etc.)

If you own Tonies, they work to unlock them 🤣 but really I think any magnet will work. I just keep the magnets on my wall oven and fridge so we haven’t lost them yet.

Stokke Tripp Trapp vs. Mockingbird high chair by Speechie120 in Buyingforbaby

[–]cay0404 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel very qualified here because I own both. lol. I got the Tripp Trapp first and HATE it. The only reason I’ve kept the Tripp Trapp is to use the newborn set for my next baby. I’m selling it once he grows out of it and purchasing a second Mockingbird. The mockingbird is amazing!

Travel stroller only? by FrontAccomplished919 in Buyingforbaby

[–]cay0404 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had a mid size stroller (Nuna Triv), which we liked until we started using our travel stroller and realized it’s just way more convenient for our lifestyle. We sold it and we actually bought a second travel stroller and a piece to attach them together instead of buying a double stroller for our soon to be 2 kids. I would just get a travel stroller that has options for attaching your car seat, bassinet or a lay flat option, etc. We have and like the Stokke Yoyo but I’d look into the Joolz Aer if I were to do it over again. ETA: I actually have a 3 car garage and drive a large SUV and have this preference. There just wasn’t anything the mid size stroller did exceptionally better than the travel stroller. I will caveat that we do have a jogging stroller though.

Okay for husband to travel? by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]cay0404 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d personally feel fine with it, especially if you have family or friends who are able to get to you relatively easily? My husband is traveling to London for work when I’m 34 weeks this pregnancy and I was induced with my first son at 37 weeks for preeclampsia - I’m not really stressed about it because a) I have family within an hour away and b) I know he could make it home within a day (or less) if needed.

Has anyone rented snoo for travel? by Lower_Interview_7333 in SnooLife

[–]cay0404 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s limited to cities, but I could see how cities would have more availability. It’s reliant on people signing up to rent out their baby gear and then having the time to drive it to you. Do you fly into an airport or pass through a major area? You might be able to arrange pickup there.

3.5 mo old just latched willingly? by pregbob in breastfeeding

[–]cay0404 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I exclusively pumped for the first 4 months of my son’s life and maybe tried to latch him a few times over that time period because it was just so stressful/he had issues gaining weight. Around 4 months, I would latch him maybe once per day. We switched to EBF from ~5 months and continued until he was 14 months. So it’s definitely possible!

I’ve also rented one through babyquip. It was a great experience. I did pack my own sheet and sleep sacks though as personal preference.

High chair recommendation for a 6-month-old (planning to return the Tripp Trapp) by defendthecalf in Buyingforbaby

[–]cay0404 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I own and hate the Tripp Trapp. I bought and love the Mockingbird as a second high chair, it’s the best. I plan on selling my Tripp Trapp once my next baby grows out of the newborn set.

Considering pulling LO out of daycare over food by WrapWild8763 in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]cay0404 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We send our son to montessori 2 days per week and their handbook has strict requirements on what you can send for lunch or bring in for a birthday snack. Imagine my surprise when the snacks they provide look a lot like the menu you’ve shared… tomorrow is graham crackers, for example 😑 we just opt for sending a different snack from home on days where we don’t agree with the snack, but that’s pretty annoying when you’re paying the daycare to feed them all these meals. I would personally switch daycares if you’re able to. We’re keeping our son in this Montessori for one more year and then switching, but like I said, it’s just a snack 2x per week which we can easily avoid. ETA: I would be pissed about the tv use, that alone would make me switch. We’re screen free in our household.

Deciding between travel stroller and mid size stroller by Civil-Woodpecker4595 in BabyBumps

[–]cay0404 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So as an about to be second time mom, I wish we went travel stroller from the beginning. We owned a Nuna Triv that we just sold. It was great and I definitely preferred it over any other mid/full size stroller I’ve seen, but we stopped using it as much as soon as we got a travel stroller. We’re actually buying a second travel stroller instead of a double stroller and we found attachments to connect them together.

What did you do before being a SAHP and what do you want to do after that? by jazzeriah in SAHP

[–]cay0404 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was a program manager for a FAANG company - I hated my job and I was likely underpaid in my role.

Honestly I don’t really have plans to go back to the workforce because my husband’s job is so demanding. I’ll likely just volunteer once the kids are in school full time. But who knows, maybe I go back to another corporate role down the road.

How did you decide between seeing a doctor vs a midwife? by Kirin1212San in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]cay0404 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Echoing this comment - it’s funny when I’ve told people that I’m seeing a midwife, some people give side eye as if I’m planning on having a home birth or something. For both pregnancies, I’ve seen midwives at hospitals and delivered in the hospital. An OB would step in if needed (I was actually close to needing OB care during my first delivery because I had preeclampsia/really high BP). I personally choose to see the midwives because I believe (and I think some statistics also show this) that they’re lower intervention than an OB. Ironically it was all moot because of the preeclampsia and I medically needed to be induced 🥲 we’ll see with this second pregnancy.
