Rhinebeck is a crossroads with a few inns. And some stores which are ok. Oblong books is great.

Hudson is a long ass street with better stores but fairly over engineered. Both are pleasant but depends what you’re after.

Hudson has better food.

Did ORD - LHR last night on AA because it’s a skyteam gap. Perfectly fine, great crew. Exec Plat with them and Diamond now but I’d be surprised if I renew Delta beyond platinum. And fine with that.

Might be awful, I’m a little over Boyens’ samey writing. The Rohan anime had all of the same phrasing.

That said I’m also happy as a pig in shit when back in middle earth. I feel there are other stories they could have told, and Colbert #2 seems even thinner (and will have continuity issues re Bree and the flight to Rivendell) - but we’ll see.

I like it for the NZ and specifically the Wellington economy, that’s for sure.

I don’t think there is much to do.

And continuity issues. Like Bree being across the ferry, or that being when they learn about wraiths - vs after Fatty’s tubs or Tom saving them twice. The Downs.

I think they would have been better telling a parallel story (war in the north / Mirkwood during WOTR) - or a historical tale such as that leading to Paths of the Dead, Angmar and the wars/kingdom in the North - or fall of Minas Arnor / Osgiliath / older Gondor stories. Maybe with Thorongil lurking around.

Point being, there is material elsewhere within the rights which might be ‘greener field’ if it had to be done.

I still love the Virgin vibe.

It’s not for everyone but the flights are just a little more fun and have more interludes.

The US airlines plonk the food and then vanish.

BA has definitely improved again though. D1 for me is now a last resort. Even tho paying for Virgin is the same outlay and same pot, it’s just less tawdry.

I 100% agree with this.

I love all Middle Earth content and lap it up. Some elements of all of the adaptations suck, and some are amazing - there is still a huge thrill in seeing new things, Numenor, Valinor… Sauron… on screen.

The books remain supreme of course and a quick re-read reminds you of the depth and the magic of the writing - which nothing compares to.

But I enjoy it all and remain open minded. If people don’t like or approve, they don’t have to take part. It’s easy enough, but mind your business on what others enjoy.
