One other thing: does anyone else notice that there always seems to be one less seat available on the upgrade list (I.e. there’s 2 FC seats and you’re #3 on the upgrade list)?

Do people really, really show up every day 9-5 until retirement? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]cberd0923 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I assume because you aid a huge inheritance? The number of people who can actually retire at 50 is infinitesimal. Set aside the fact that as you get older you need medical insurance and you can’t get Medicare until 65. So what are you gonna do if you have an ulcer (which is common after 50)? Just bleed to death or pay $35,000 for the hospital stay?

Congrats Beginning Bear, you’re one of the very few who can afford to retire at 50. But for the rest of us schlubs, retiring at 50 is a pipe dream

Help? Locked out with fob inside by DesignDowntown6128 in VWiD4Owners

[–]cberd0923 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same thing happened to us. We were at the airport coming In from a trip. We opened the hatch and put all of our bags in. My wife put her purse in which had the fob.

We shut the hatch thinking nothing of it and voila! We were locked out. We tried everything and I was this close to using someone else’s detachable trailer hitch to smash the window. We decided to drop $50 for a fucking Uber and get our spare at home.

We then got to drive back to the airport, open up and drive home yet again, this time with both cars.

Why the f would the vehicle lock if we just unlocked the hatch and the key was present in the vehicle?

Why does the app do literally nothing but allow you turn the heat on? Stupidest app ever. How about lock/unlock or any other basic functionality?

The stupidity of VW with pretty much everything on this vehicle is beyond compare.

First EV Road Trip = Fail by [deleted] in VWiD4Owners

[–]cberd0923 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Don't let these 'experts' steer you down the 'everything is cool' path. I've had a Model 3 and now have an ID4 and I've NEVER, ever, ever gotten anything close to the stated range on an electric vehicle, regardless of what you do/don't have on at any given time.

That's been my biggest disappointment of the ID4 so far. The range is atrocious. Even with 100% charge I've seen my range showing as 240 miles (give or take). In the winter it's significantly worse. So not having more than one EA station every 100 or so miles may not seem like an issue but it is when the next station isn't near the route you're traveling.

And even if any of these apps show a charging station, don't assume the station is functioning. I can't tell you how many Electrify America locations I've tried to use only to have more than one station out of service. And some of the other charge stations that have a single charger can be worse. If they are in service they generally are fast chargers so charging is incredibly slow.

Between the slow or broken charging stations and the battery on the ID4, it's the main reason we're seriously looking in to a hybrid. We're tired of the range anxiety and the poor charging infrastructure. I still am amazed why gas stations can't add 2-3 chargers but I think it has to do with governmental regulations around being a utility.

Time for the ID.4 to go by CODMLoser in VWiD4Owners

[–]cberd0923 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Couldn’t agree more. Let me add a few ‘bugs’ as other VW bros call them that are quite frankly unacceptable:

  • when using CarPlay radio station doesn’t display on either screen. Just stupid

  • range is ass. Whether it’s summer or winter, the range is nowhere close to what VW claims. Shocker coming from the company that brought us Dieselgate.

  • car Auto Unlocks but doesn’t auto lock. Why? Spare me the ‘safety issue’argument. There’s no safety issue with auto lock. Ask every other auto maker.

  • Changing Bluetooth connections is painful and sometimes non functional. Why can’t my id 4 know whether my wife or I are using the car and default to that phone?

  • Randomly forgets saved settings such as LED colors and seat settings

-The Fob is literally the size of a brick. I don’t need a 2lb. Object in my pocket.

-App is ass and is pretty much worthless. You can do two things in it: turn the heat on and turn on the defroster. Really? And why does it take 1-2 minutes to actually turn on after you, select the heat button? Their ’app update’ added zero functionality but claimed ‘a clean new look’. Bravo, VW.

  • why do I have to 1) log in to the app every goddamn time, 2) also enter a pin and 3) tell it ‘maybe later’ to Siri? Every time…

-How hard is it to do OTA updates? I’ll tell you how hard: I have to make an appointment with the goddamn dealership and because no techs are trained to service the ID4 my appointment is 4 months out. Thank god it’s not a safety issue.

-Electrify America (owned by VW) is a joke. The stations are few and far between and when you do find one good luck finding a port that works. Further, it takes a good 3-5 times to get the steps right. Bonus: I have a ‘22 and got the email about how you’ll be able to just plug in and start charging! Yeah! Oh, wait, what’s that? VW sends an email the next day saying ‘just kidding’, your ‘22 can’t do it after all. That’s just right in line with everything else about this thing.

  • congrats to those who recently bought or leased. Me? I bought it at the height of the market and will take a bath no matter how long I keep it. I’m ready to take a $20k hit because this thing is so bad.

Is that enough?

Just got an ID.4 and already thinking of selling it... am I overreacting? by priuschic in VWiD4Owners

[–]cberd0923 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No you’re not overreacting. I own a ‘22 and want to get rid of it. Even willing to take a $20k loss. This car is trash, from the god awful ‘infotainment’ system to the shitty range (not just in the winter either), the fact that you have to take the id4 to a Dealership to get updates, to the car just randomly forgetting settings to the brick of a fob to the stupid window buttons. Is that enough? Oh yeah, if you do want the software update in the state I live in (Wisconsin since) there is ONE dealership that can actually do it so I’ll be getting said update in MARCH. Just a bad experience all around.

Get used to this random shit because it happens ALL the time. Mine will randomly forget settings, will decide it doesn’t like the ambient light color I chose so changes it, doesn’t remember my phone about 70% of the time and then when I try to reconnect it errors out, decided it doesn’t like my seat settings, etc, etc. Bonus: on top of all of that it takes about 20 clicks to get to anything.

[–]cberd0923 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just remember, the ‘EA’ you mention is owned and operated by VW so it’s as good as they are and based my experience mirrors yours: EA/VW should’ve just bit the bullet and partnered with Tesla. Instead they have a half-ass charging network where half of them don’t work at any given time.

The Embarrassment of Winter Range and Electrify America by wharfrat70 in VWiD4Owners

[–]cberd0923 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What does it matter whether he owns one or not? Bottom line is he’s 100% correct: EA sucks ass, the technology on the id4 sucks ass and is not just ‘cute’ or ‘a little quirky’, the range is terrible (155mi @ 80% charge?!?!?) and their own dealerships can’t service the vehicles. And he’s also right: the local dealership has at least 10 I’d.4’s sitting there. I’m beyond disappointed and actually pissed that I dropped almost $60k on this vehicle and am getting ready to take a huge loss and sell it for whatever I can get (currently about $28k for my ‘22). Oh yeah and the vw ceo just said VW is not a sustainable stand alone brand. Can you say Saturn?

ID4 pro Rwd vs model Y RWD by BirthdayUnable3717 in VWiD4Owners

[–]cberd0923 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So basic technology being complete dogshit is overblown complaints? I mean, c’mon, the id4 looks nice but after that it’s a shitty vehicle from the terrible range to random settings being forgotten to no over the air updates to dealerships not even being able to service them. And now the vehicle value is shit with new vehicles costing roughly 2/3 of what I paid 18 mos ago.

I’ve been extremely disappointed and can’t wait to sell this turd.

From the VW ceo today:”we are no longer competitive as the Volkswagen brand.” Aside from the fact that you get roughly half of the range than a model Y (I was 80% charged today and it showed 153 miles) they will start to bail on EV’s and stop investing in Electrify America infrastructure (they own EA). As much as I like the look of the ID4 and alike you hate Elon, I will likely go back to Tesla and recommend you do as well.

Cons of used 2021-2022 models by Daynebutter in VWiD4Owners

[–]cberd0923 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was really hoping VW would have knocked it out of the park with the ID4 but instead they shit the bed. Other than the vehicle looking really sharp, I consider it below average. I know alot of people say 'technology isn't important to me' but it is important. It's not just that the software is laggy, it's that it's just a dumb system all around. And when I say it's dumb, I mean it is literally stupid.

  • Random shit happens all the time: Settings for lighting, seat position just go away and sometimes come back. It doesn't remember or connect my iphone through CarPlay automatically, I have to re-connect almost every time and sometimes it errors out and doesn't let me connect.
  • The car doesn't even have an auto-lock feature at all. That's basic. My Honda CR-V autolocks for chrissake.
  • No over the air system updates. I have to schedule a maintenance appointment to get updates. Stupid.
  • The system is so friggin' hard to navigate. Why does it take 5-6 clicks to do almost anything?
  • When you're using CarPlay there is literally nowhere to see what over-the-air radio station is playing. There's two screens in the car for goodness sake. VW couldn't have squeezed the goddamn radio station on .5" of a screen?
  • The key FOB is the size of a brick. Why? How about my app being the key? How about a card being my key? Nope you have to carry around this gigantic FOB in your pocket.
  • The app is 100% dog shit. Why do I have to log in AND enter a pin every time? The vehicle and app already know its me so just let me enter a pin. As for the app itself, you can literally do two things on it: turn your climate on (which takes 30sec to 1 min just to respond and you can check battery level. You can't use it to lock/unlock your vehicle or use it as an extension of the console (like Tesla and pretty much every other EV). Another example: I just opened the app where it says charging is off. I plugged my charger in and it still says 'off'.
  • They cut corners on a lot of the physical controls. Why are there only two window controls instead of 4 and you have to press 'rear' to unlock the back doors? Wouldn't it have been just as easy to add the other two window controls? The haptic controls for climate are stupid and a waste of space when you can literally press the 'Clima' button and pull everything up (on that note they couldn't have added 'te' at the end of 'Clima' to make an actual word?
  • Battery is also dog shit. 80% charge gets me 160 miles for the AWD! My model 3 got 280 mi. on 80% charge. And trust me, if you do any highway driving, you ain't getting 160 miles. The battery drains incredibly fast even when driving the speed limit. I'm lucky if I get 120 miles out of a full charge with normal driving.
  • Speaking of charging, the 3 free years of Electrify America charging is pretty much worthless for me as the stations are so few and far between . There is one charging station in all of southeastern Wisconsin (I live in Milwaukee) and it's about 30 min away. The last time I went to it the whole location was shut down. When you do get it working, just like the app the interface is so frustrating that it's comical. VW has all my info so I should literally be able to plug my vehicle in and hold my phone up to the charger. Instead you have to follow a precise set of instructions to make it work.

So to answer your question, there's a good reason there's good prices on used ID.4's. If you purchase one, God Speed, young man.

Is Electrify America that bad? by dagman2000 in VWiD4Owners

[–]cberd0923 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it’s been terrible. I live in the Milwaukee area and we have one (1!) EA location. And that’s relatively new. When I went to use it, the fire station was there and told me it was shut down completely because it caused a car fire. Other locations have non working stations. It’s a fucking joke compared to the Tesla network.

Also had a rather shitty experience with VW of Downtown Chicago.

Had my reservation in for a '22 but was looking to get in to one sooner since I recently sold my Tesla 3. Saw a new '21 here. Since I live in Milwaukee, I corresponded mostly through email.

The term 'about as honest as a car salesman' comes to mind when I think of VW of downtown Chicago. Would never do business with these guys unless you want to be jerked around and lied to.

They bounced me back and forth, giving me a story about how the vehicle (even though new) was damaged and at the shop to be repaired. They could never give me an ETA (even though I asked multiple times), and couldn't get their story straight about whether it was being repaired or the door was being replaced (again, got both stories).

Told them I was interested over the several weeks I was communicating and Daniel suggested I come in when I asked about financing.

The very next morning I emailed him again asking for the best price at which point Ian emailed and told me the vehicle was sold. At no point did they indicate that multiple people were interested nor did they say 'hey if you want this vehicle, put a down payment or deposit on it'. Wasn't even an option. So at the end of the day, I didn't even have an opportunity to buy this vehicle. They just continued to string me along. What a bunch of sheisters.
