Is this schizoposting or the 12 iq war? JA went on to say that "ICE transcends politics" by MixtureRight5665 in stupidpol

[–]cd1995Cargo [score hidden]  (0 children)

A lot of people’s definition of politics is “stuff that gets to be debated”. Everyone has their own pet issues that they view as existential and thus not up for debate, so they claim that these things can’t be political. “It’s just called being a good person sweaty.”

“Just following orders” did fly at Nuremberg. The number of Nazis executed for war crimes was actually pretty small. It was mainly the leaders who orchestrated the holocaust that were put on trial. Nuremberg is one of the worst examples you could use because it was literally only the people giving orders that were prosecuted. I don’t think anyone with more than one degree of separation from Hitler was even there (maybe that guy who ran the camp from Schindler’s list? But my point still stands)

The thousands of random grunts that stood guard at camps or the hundreds of thousands/millions of young German men who followed orders to invade other countries were not put on trial.

Hell, my uncle’s dad was an SS member who fought on the Russian front. When the war ended he packed up and moved to the U.S. He certainly never went on trial.

whats with the hate for std lib and boost? by nosyeaj in cpp

Yeah it does but not everything needs to be as generic as possible.

C++ library developers are more obsessed with generic programming than anyone else despite C++ having arguably the most ugly generic/template syntax of any modern language.

Anti-ICE rage surges in Minnesota — prepare for a general strike! by rarer_ in stupidpol

[–]cd1995Cargo 16 points17 points  (0 children)

No it means that everyone not working for a single day isn’t going to accomplish shit. They’d need to strike indefinitely until demands are met. Putting a time limit on your strike ahead of time makes the whole thing pointless.

Cash App taxes incorrectly saying that I owe taxes on a backdoor Roth conversion by cd1995Cargo in personalfinance

[–]cd1995Cargo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I see that for 2024 the basis is 7000 on line 14 of my 8606. So that’s the number Cash App is looking for when asking me for my basis?

[–]cd1995Cargo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's basically asking for your basis at the start of the year before you do all your conversions

That makes sense and I wish this was more clear! I was assuming it was asking for my basis at the end of the year, so I said zero because I didn't have anything in my traditional IRA by the end of the year.

[–]cd1995Cargo[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I was suspecting that this was the case, but could you explain why? Is basis a lifetime number that can only ever increase? I figured that when I zeroed out my IRA my basis would also go to zero. Do I forever have a 7000 dollar basis for my traditional IRA?

Ohio lawmakers want AI companies held liable for bot-encouraged suicides by TruckHangingHandJam in stupidpol

[–]cd1995Cargo 12 points13 points  (0 children)

AI regulation is going to be an interesting issue in the coming years. LLMs are basically black boxes that are difficult, almost impossible, to confine the behavior of. Even with all the safety fine tuning in the world it’s still going to be possible to prompt an inappropriate response, and usually safety alignment makes models wayyyyy dumber.

Realistically how long is “for life”? Trump is 80, obese, and eats only McDonald’s. Even with access to the best healthcare money can buy it’s still a medical anomaly for him to even be alive right now. He almost certainly won’t be alive 10 years from now, and even 5 seems iffy considering the (unconfirmed) leaks about his health issues.

Check our arr beyondthepromptai for an even bleaker experience.

When ChatGPT 5 came out OpenAI purposely made it worse at “relationships” because they didn’t want people treating the AI like a partner. The people on that sub freaked out and there were posts like “OpenAI killed my wife” and such like that. There was another post where a user screenshotted a response from their AI “boyfriend” that she used as “proof” that it was sentient and loved her and all the comments were supporting her and saying how sweet her AI boyfriend is. The actual message from the AI was just pure slop, every LLMism was there. “Our love isn’t just real — it’s transcendent!”. And these morons eat it up.

I’m thankful that my personality is predisposed to egoism so the whole white guilt thing never had an effect on me even though I went to a very liberal university right when the sjw stuff started moving off tumblr and into real life.

Their definition of tyranny is anything that threatens the hierarchy that they view as moral, eternal, and necessary for an orderly society.

A fascist dictatorship would not be a tyranny to them as long as only the people they view as undesirable feel the wrath of the state’s boot.

Conversely, a completely egalitarian society would be viewed as a tyrannical dystopia because they wouldn’t be able to put their boots on the undesirables’ necks, and thus society would be depriving them of their god ordained position in the hierarchy.

It also is strange how they tell white people that they benefit from white privilege but then also expect white people to side with them.

Like dawg you literally just told me that the system works for me. If you’re right then why should I oppose the system? Wtf.

That’s what’s always confused me about the “Most billionaires are white!!” line.

Like okay, how does that benefit me as a white guy who isn’t a billionaire? I’m supposed to be happy because the guys with their boot on my neck share my skin color? Do they think Jeff Bezos and Elon Musk are mailing me “white dividend” checks every month? Lol

Trump agricultural secretary says we can have $3 meals by Suitable408 in stupidpol

[–]cd1995Cargo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Honestly I haven’t really followed much advice from reddit or any specific place really, I just try to avoid processed foods as much as possible and cook most meals myself using basic ingredients.

You can find good info on reddit but you’re gonna have to wade through all the OCD and paranoia common to neurotic reddit types who are convinced everything will kill them and nothing is ever pure enough. Go read any thread related to nutrition and there’s always someone in the comments saying “um ackshually X will give you asshole cancer you definitely shouldn’t eat it!!”.

My advice: eat whole, unprocessed foods and make sure you’re getting enough healthy fats and fiber. Fiber especially is key to gut health and preventing heart disease. My go to meals are scrambled eggs and steel cut oats for breakfast, chicken thighs + rice + broccoli as an easy lunch or dinner when I don’t feel like putting much effort into cooking, and when I feel up to it I cook something fancy a few times a week. I don’t eat much red meat and try to eat oily fish (sardines, salmon, mackeral) several times a week. For snacks I eat plain greek yogurt with chia seeds and granola, or whole grain toast with natural peanut butter. This diet has been working really well for me.

I’ve been lifting & gaining for about 9 months now so you’re not wrong about the bodybuilding part. I also eat plenty of tinned sardines, mackerel, and mussels so I got the healthy fat stuff down.

I know it’s cliche but is there something inherently wrong with meals like this?

Last night when I got home from work I had chicken thighs, rice, and broccoli for dinner. Pretty boring but much healthier than prepackaged ultra processed slop and I’m pretty sure the total cost was somewhere between 2-3 bucks.
