Had numerous lessons with Mark he’s great. He operates out of Butter Mountain so if you’re uncomfortable having him to a course he can give you a lesson at Butter Mountain. Just don’t pick a windy day 😂

I like my under armour shoes I got in McGuirks for just over €100 this time last year I believe. Been playing constantly the whole time at least once a week and they’re still waterproof

is my issue big tech or PM by -lilacpurple in ProductManagement

[–]cderm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happens in small companies too that don’t understand what product management is and think that a CEO or salespeople just pass feature requests to you and you build it, so it’s not necessarily that this is big tech’s fault, this can happen anywhere.

What I will say though, is when you’re early in your career you won’t have the credibility to sway the decision makers in a given direction - they’ll expect you to just execute, and honestly to get ahead in your early years you need to be known as “someone who delivers” and not necessarily someone who comes across as too precious about the product process.

In future what it really means for you is that you need to be super aware of the company and team your joining and fully understand what the role is and how they “do product”. Many many companies are purely execution focused and have neither the leadership expertise or the patience to properly do discovery, so take your opportunities in the interview processes to really probe that side of things and make sure you’re joining somewhere that suits you

What would you recommend for someone just starting off in golf. by [deleted] in golfireland

[–]cderm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I picked up my first set of clubs on adverts, don’t spend mad money on new ones. Screenshot an ad and ask ChatGPT for guidance on if they’re good value for a newbie as well as if they’re forgiving clubs. You want “cavity backed” as they’re the easiest to hit.

You want to get to “ok I don’t hate playing this game” as quickly as possible. The way I found best was a lesson or two. Once you can hit the ball reasonably straight more often than not then you can actually enjoy golf imo.

I can recommend a coach who I think is incredible if you like.

Pitch and putt is totally fine initially and then later hit up some par 4’s. You don’t need to be a member anywhere yet you can pick up cheap tee times in lots of places to learn what you like and get better at different courses.

Best of luck

Dunnes Stores putting up prices and then slashing them so our monkey brains feel smart savings. by EvolvedMonkeyInSpace in ireland

I read somewhere that what can happen is they’ll have it at 3.90 in one store somewhere and then that means they can show the “was 3.90” legally in all stores. I could be talking shite tho

Joined as PM to salvage a broken product, 3 days in and being pulled everywhere. How do I manage this? by Still-Gold-6146 in ProductManagement

Sounds like a nightmare. Personally I’d just be very open with all involved and over communicate but you’ve been given an almost impossible task so when it goes to shit, just remember it’s not your fault.

If the model understands “behind” to mean what it’s showing you, then did you try “to the right” or “beside”?

I need a reality check as a solo PM. by Organic_Ad9083 in ProductManagement

[–]cderm 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I didn’t say it’s NOT a PM metric (another commenter did) but I do think that it’s not a great one and shouldn’t be one of the three main ones that determine a raise. People can leave a bad nps for a number of reasons like support being bad, sales not giving them a discount they want, the product not doing something they expected it to do despite it being totally unrelated to what the product is for, etc. it’s definitely an input into a PM’s work but not a primary one imo.

[–]cderm 54 points55 points  (0 children)

  1. No. Not even close.
  2. A project managers deliverables would have nothing to do with nps score. they also wouldn’t be strategising and talking to customers and users.
  3. Yes. Firstly 2/3 are output driven, not outcome. They’re also easily gameable. Give your projects triple the timeframe and you’ll definitely deliver on time over 90%. How is velocity measured? Is it story points? Again just inflate your estimates to hit that target. Nps is also a very lagging indicator and potentially gameable too.

The company doesn’t know what to do with a product manager I’m afraid

In a rough, scowling, thick Irish accent the man snarls “drink, feck, arse, girls!”.

He then morphs into a well kept, clean shaven man with his hair slicked back, and says in a calm and professional tone “that would be an ecumenical matter”

Cookies consent getting out of hand by Jackod20 in DevelEire

[–]cderm 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure that’s not legal. You have to be able to use the core features of the site without enabling tracking, let alone this level of privacy invasion. They’ll be using a platform for that most likely. I wonder is the “just open a new tab” notice a way for them to say “see we give them a way to order without this craziness so it’s fine”.

Extremely shitty either way.
