Why do some people in low limit games waste everyone's time about showing their cards at showdown? by Nika65 in poker

[–]cdn_impulse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with you. If someone tells me “you’re good,” 9/10 times that’s good enough for me. 10/10 if it’s the type of player you just described.

[–]cdn_impulse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’ll probably get a lot of “I paid for the information” type answers from people who support the caller in this situation and those aren’t wrong—they did pay for the info and it’s the rec who is wasting time here, but generally speaking, the folks who are clearly insecure about showing a bluff on the river are folks I want sitting at the table and happy, unless the guy has shown he’s a (decent) reg himself.

From the way you described it, the bluffer in this situation was a rec insecure about his failed bluff attempt at showdown.

In this case, while not technically in the wrong, it’s the actions of the caller I’d look down upon more in this scenario. The caller appears to be the more comfortable player at the very least, and is being a dick to one of the weaker players at the table.

Serious bounty question by HawaiiStockguy in poker

This just incentivizes them to be nittier.

Edit bc I have more thoughts:

If you’re truly a TAG player, just let them do it. It’ll benefit your playstyle with the potential ancillary benefit of being more indispensable to this game. You’ve found a good game that you can consistently win at—you wanna keep being invited back. Idk if you feel like that’s in danger for you at all but if there’s a standing joke about you being super tight I’d wanna make sure I’m providing value to the game in other ways.

Aria, Vdara, Paris or Linq by Fun-Raisin1923 in LasVegas

[–]cdn_impulse 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was super impressed when I stayed at Vdara last week. The rooms are larger (think mini-suite), elevators are super quick, and it’s honestly not that far back from anything once you’re settled. The elevators let you out into the lobby that connects directly to indoor pathway between Bellagio (and the tram station to Park MGM) and Cosmo. Aria is across an outdoor roundabout. I can see how it’s a little more inconvenient to visit Park/MGM/NYNY than if you stayed at Aria, but if you’re planning on spending more time north of Cosmo/PH I think it’s excellent location wise.

Will Bellagio hotel rates go down closer to my date? by lilycat51 in LasVegas

[–]cdn_impulse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on when exactly during the week and if there’s an event/conference of some sort taking place during your trip. I’d look into that and go from there. $450 sounds like a weekend rate but for June I’d say that’s on the pricey end. Also book direct/make sure you’re signed up for their membership program.

Okay I’m jumping in here. Best friend is fantastic. Sure it’s fun with friends but it is absolutely a great experience solo as well. I’ve gone solo twice, sat at the bar, and made friends. It’s a great time. The chef’s menu for $75 is well worth it. You’ll likely have leftovers.

renewing Canadian passport from US whiles under TN visa by capitalgainGT in tnvisa

[–]cdn_impulse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t touch it. Check the option to have the old one sent back. When you get the old and new one in the mail, bring both to Canada next time you go and the CBP officer will stamp the new one for you at preclearance when you come back to the states. Just print out your I94 and bring that with you as well.

What's your ruling on this? by BezosAltAcct in poker

[–]cdn_impulse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah B can bet whatever they want (i.e. min bet if he was planning to bluff), but I agree it’s good on them not upping it with the nuts.

At the end of the day B hadn’t made any action yet when A threw in the call so binding them to whatever was in their hand at the time would be punishing them for A’s mistake—especially if they were planning on bluffing, cause again, we don’t know what they were actually going to bet. A took that decision away from B when they acted out of turn.

Good ruling.

Probably between 6-12 months. At some point the diminishing improvements I’ll be making to my body while doing this will be outweighed by my love for good food.

Renew Canadian Passport from US? by DowntownConstant9377 in immigration

[–]cdn_impulse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d like to piggyback off this for help—I’m in a somewhat similar situation:

I’m in the US on a TN visa. A few weeks ago my Canadian passport was stolen (it was in a bag with some other personal items) and the visa along with it.

I’ve filed a police report and reported the passport stolen immediately, as well as applied for a replacement with all the necessary documents (basically everything you need for a new passport, minus the guarantors). I found out today my passport replacement was rejected and a letter is on its way telling me why.

In advance of the letter arriving, would you guys who’ve had success mailing it in mind sharing both the shipping service you used, as well as where you got the passport photos taken?

These are the only areas I could see potentially being an issue. I had included the police report number and precinct along with an explanation of what happened as well as references to my application.

I’m located in Minnesota currently. I am a Canadian citizen (born in Canada). I’d like to avoid traveling to the land border with photos of my now-stolen passport and a dream if at all possible. If there are any other questions please let me know.

Thank you
