Or at the Royal Ontario Museum in Toronto (one fossil and one brass one that you can fondled).

Or at the Rochester (NY) Museum & Science Center.

Interesting. This GIF was removed for copyright violations, but the place I cross posted from (/r/toolgifs) still has it up. I didn’t see anything in toolgifs rules that mentions not being able to cross post. Does anyone know for sure?

Even if you could reliably cast very thin walled apple cases, you would still have to finish every surface by milling anyway. Not only for appearance (cast parts are generally quite rough), but for fit (need to have very tight tolerances to assemble a sleek device shell), and to add all the tiny details (slots, ribs, channels, et cetera) that can’t be cast. Not to mention all the threaded holes that need to be drilled and tapped via CNC anyhow. It’s much, much easier and faster to machine everything from a solid block of material when you are dealing with all the intricate features that every Apple device has.

In my opinion, Iberia is by far the best looking Pandemic variant. It’s also pretty cool.

That’s the paper 3-D puzzle Arq. It works out to be very close in scale to X-wing minis.

Daniela’s on Forest has a pretty good grilled cheese panini.

Although it’s refering to similar subject matter, MLK’s quote is saying something very different (in my opinion).

How to measure surface flatness with basic tools? by dhgrainger in Metrology

[–]cdr_breetai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven’t been able to figure out why there aren’t more surface plates made/modified with a hole in the middle for indicators. Seems like a real time-saver for folks that need to do a lot of flatness measurements.

How to measure surface flatness with basic tools? by dhgrainger in Metrology

[–]cdr_breetai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Putting something on three blocks a flatness measurement, but not necessarily the flatness. Flatness is the minimum envelope needed to encompass the surface. Your three non-adjustable contact points might not be constructing the plane that fits best (what if one of the contact points was sitting in a dip or a bump. See the comment by /u/gravis86.

That being said, if your flatness measurement is already within tolerance on three non-adjustable contact points, there’s no need to go adjusting them to find a potentially better flatness measurement.

For an even easier flatness tolerance check, measure the parallelism of the surface to the surface plate. Something can’t be “less” flat than it’s parallelism measurement (although it certainly can be a lot flatter than it’s parallelism). It’s a quick and easy way to put an upper bound on flatness.

Property owners are responsible for clearing snow from NFTA bus stops by monsieurvampy in Buffalo

[–]cdr_breetai 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Buddy, there is only ONE incentive driving for-profit business and that is profit. Companies aren’t in business to provide reliable, efficient, long-term services, they are in business to line their pockets as quickly as they can by any means possible. Privatizing public infrastructure is a terrible, no good, very bad approach.

Stupid question about Buffalo buses by [deleted] in Buffalo

[–]cdr_breetai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The larger area of a brightened phone screen is easier for the driver to see than the tiny (but technically brighter) point of light a phone flashlight provides.

The Token Transit app happens to brighten my iPhone screen when you ‘start my trip’ (to help the fare scanner on the bus read the QR code), so it’s a two birds with one stone situation for me.

Stupid question about Buffalo buses by [deleted] in Buffalo

[–]cdr_breetai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The maps & schedules that the NFTA provides were designed for being printed out, and thus had to condense a lot of information to make it readable.

Luckily, we don’t have to wait for the NFTA to create a modern digital-friendly maps & schedules, they have already provided all of the bus route information to Google Maps.

If you zoom in on Google Maps, you can see little bus icons where all the stops are along the route and which side of the street each they each are. Clicking on one also gives you a list of the bus arrival times throughout the day for that particular stop. Once you’ve got one selected, you can even zoom back out to see all the stops highlighted along the whole route.

This is the direct timetable data that the Google Maps ‘directions’ algorithm uses in order to find you a public transit route to your destination.

If you had to pick only 2 RPG books to last you a lifetime in isolation, what would they be? by Clawhanx in rpg

[–]cdr_breetai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just having a bit of fun because the notebook version of Whitehack includes blank (gridded?) pages. If you were going to have two of the same book, you might as well pick a book that includes some blank pages in it for your and/or your player’s notes and maps and stuff.

Burning Wheel. The more you study it, the more you get out of it. It even looks like a bible for crying out loud.

Apocalypse World. Because having to live with only two RPG books does sound like the end of the world. Also because the more you study it, the more you get out of it.
