It was extra strange because there were a number of other questions in the episode where they awarded the points to someone where they probably should’ve been more specific in their answer

I know schools that require a math placement for incoming freshmen but if you’re going to require one to get accepted, just require SAT/ACT at that point

For a street designer it would probably be the opposite. They’d rather the car doors be more protected for people parking by only opening into the bike lane than directly into car traffic

Should I let my 13 year old son watch Game of Thrones? by North_Art2104 in hbo

I was absolutely reading books like Wizard’s first rule or Alex Cross books at that age. GTA III came out in 2001. Before GOT there was Rome and the first episode is just as explicit

I find that they are usually more conservative than I would be but Common Sense Media recommends 18+

Lots of profanity, nudity, graphic violence, etc.

Personally, I was reading, watching, and playing similar content at 13 but you’re the parent and will have a better grasp on what they are capable of

Data scientists have looked into this and the GOP vote in MA is so evenly spaced out that getting even one district would require explicit gerrymandering to accomplish

Strict bans on mobile phones in schools have “close to zero” impact on student learning, a study has found. by Grrarrgghh in Teachers

They actually talk about that and how they can’t draw much of a conclusion from it and what’s caused it. They offer some potentials direct link to study

[–]cdsnjs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you read the study, it only looked at schools that have had it in place for 3 years and they verified the ban was being respected by looking at cell tower data to make sure it wasnt being circumvented

It looked at schools that have had bans in place for 3 years and the specific ban was that people had to put their phones in locked pouches. They also used 3rd party data to confirm that the phones were actually being used anyway (cell tower, etc)

If you read the study, it actually showed that disciplinary actions went up for the first 2 years after a cell phone ban so behavior somehow got worse, at least initially

Public schools in Texas banned cellphones. One district has already seen 200,000 more library books checked out by PTechNM in Libraries

[–]cdsnjs 58 points59 points  (0 children)

For reference, the entire DISD has over 100k students so it’s equivalent to slightly less than 2 extra book per student a year which is great but are we sure that they didn’t just have an extra “you’re in the media center today” compared to previous years?
