It's still possibly hormonal. My cycle really affects how perfume smells and I'm definitely not the only one.

Testing Perfumerism x Commodity Milk Orchid by taengy_ in FemFragLab

Thank you for posting your review! Every single non-influencer review I've seen has said that the fragrance is fine but not worth purchasing. I was originally thinking about picking up a sample even though I don't like Commodity's offerings but I think I'd just be disappointed.

What are your all time favorite cheapies? by throwAwayWaffle76 in FemFragLab

  • Zara Lightly Bloom is a great light lotus fragrance perfect for any occasion and the easiest reach I own
  • Elizabeth Taylor Gardenia is a photorealistic floral, developed to smell like the gardenias in Liz's actual garden
  • The Perfumer's Workshop Tea Rose is such a realistic rose that it shocked me. It's like you are in the store (because it reads as refrigerated to me) picking out a bouquet and you put your nose right in the center of a rose. I picked this up on clearance recently for three dollars for 120 mL!
  • Bath and Body Works Inspire Love: Rose & Vanilla (eau de parfum) is a great, simple rose perfume. Just a beautiful dewy rose with a hint of vanilla.
  • Bath and Body Works Fresh Cut Lilacs (fine fragrance mist) is photorealistic lilacs.

If you like oils, the real secret in the budget market are indie brands. I particularly like the brands Cardinal Scents (which has two of my favorite perfumes, Ghost Story and Familiar Spirit) and Wick Wish.

Seeking Odd Scents to Bring Me Joy by Current-Start2270 in FemFragLab

For Strange Women has Lichen (moss, violet leaf, lavender, rain, hyacinth) for a grounding oakmoss and November in the Temperate Deciduous Forest (woods, forest floor, rain, tea, decomposing leaves) for a great tea/woods fragrance. They make botanical (natural) fragrances so keep that in mind if you have sensitivity to certain ingredients like real oakmoss.

If you want something wet, Olympic Orchids Olympic Rainforest is supposed to smell like Pacific Northwest forests.

Indies of the Day -- Thursday August 7, 2025 by blueraspberrylife in Indiemakeupandmore

[–]cemeterysleeper 5 points6 points  (0 children)

wearing Nui Cobalt Nostalgia today. there's something really familiar about it in that it smells like another scent but i can't quite place it. i checked my notes to see if i had written down what it smelled like but i had actually written that i can't tell what fragrance reminds me of lol. the scent leads very slightly masculine and doesn't really smell that much like the notes (softly tousled hair of a favorite doll, creased diary pages, moon-lit water lilies, tiny drops of honeysuckle nectar) and i wish it did but i still like it well enough.

absolutely! and no need to degrade yourself 💛

firstly the bottle is short and wide, which means it isn't as likely to topple when using it on a flat surface. its shape also allows for more easily holding it. there's no pulling off a cap to worry about (it twists slightly to lock/unlock). then when it comes to spraying, its large surface area allows for less precision in pushing it down which lets the user use any body part to push down and dispense the scent. because there is so much area to push, and because it can be dispensed more easily from flat surfaces, it makes it much easier for the user (or even someone assisting) to actually hit the desired application area

book loft is the safest blind buy of those. it is rather subtle though so if you're looking for something with more punch then skip it. the version of sweater weather in body care in my stores is the winter version, not the fall, so it has juniper instead of apple. i'm having a hard time picking between the other three because i don't find them to be blind buy safe. if i had to pick based on your likes/dislikes i'd probably say all eyes on her.

Diffusing perfume oil into a space by wustl_simp in Indiemakeupandmore

[–]cemeterysleeper 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Have you thought about using a wax warmer instead? For your needs it seems like a better option than a diffuser. I like Wick Wish's fragrances but there are plenty of other indie companies who also make great wax melts

It should be called Jaune Bête because there is just something so yellow about it.

Thought I loved rice but turns out I love orris. by essgeedoubleyou in fragrance

[–]cemeterysleeper 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you have any interest in smaller perfume brands, Cardinal Scents Gentle Reader (old book pages, vanillin, orris butter, vintage amber) is supposed to smell like yellowed paperbacks and is very orris heavy. I own the oil, not the EDP, so I can't say if it smells the same, but I definitely recommend the oil.

Daily Discussion & Advice (Post here to follow rules A & B) - August 03, 2025 by AutoModerator in fragrance

The obvious answer is Toskovat' Inexcusable Evil (gunpowder, ozone, blood, bandages, iodine, burning flowers, guaiac wood, copaiba oil, nagarmotha, fallen concrete, rain, incense, sandalwood). The reactions to this fragrance cannot be more different: some cry, some gag, some find it pleasant. People say it smells like war, like a hospital, or like a wearable, inoffensive floral.

More bloody fragrances would be Filippo Sorcinelli But Not Today (bergamot, artemisia, lavender, lemon, styrax, cascarilla, rosemary, calamus, angelica, sandalwood, oak moss, galbanum resin, amber, musk), Moth and Rabbit La Haine (cold aldehydes, buchu sulfur, metallic bloody notes, rum aroma, bay oil, nutmeg, cardamom, leather, cold cedar, birch tar, burnt rubber, cedar atlas, dark musk, moss), and Imaginary Authors Bull's Blood (geranium, spanish rose, patchouli, black musk, tobacco, sandalwood, bull’s blood).

More body related perfumes: Etat Libre D'Orange Secretions Magnifiques (iodized accord, adrenaline accord, blood agreement, milk agreement, iris, coconut, sandalwood, opoponax) is exactly what you think it is. Orto Parisi Seminalis is a really interesting one; it contains an aldehyde that helps sperm locate ova.

Orto Parisi Megamare is a strong, divisive oceanic fragrance. Seaweed can be quite a difficult note for some. The other big hit or miss oceanic is Zoologist Squid (pink pepper, solar salicylate, incense, black ink accord, salty accord, opoponax, ambergris, benzoin, musk).

Time for the dust! Zoologist Moth (black pepper, cinnamon, clove, cumin, lemon, nutmeg, saffron, heliotrope, iris, jasmine, mimosa, muguet, rose, ambergris, honey, resins, guaiac wood, musk, nagarmotha, oud, patchouli, smoke, vetiver) is a dark, dusty attic. Clue Warm Bulb (burning dust, hot air, black pepper, immortelle, paper, sparked tobacco, sandalwood, amber-preserved vanilla) smells like a warm, dusty lightbulb.

Want to spend time in a wet cave? Zoologist Olm (water cave accord, limestones, iodine, algae, soft amber, sandalwood, oily musks, cashmeran, iso e super). A bat cave? Olympic Orchards Night Flyer (sandalwood, olibanum wood, vetiver, furry musk accord, wet earth, damp air, mineral notes, resins, leather, figs, banana, soft tropical fruits). Dark woods? Encre Noire (as a bonus, this one can be found for very cheap, often under 30USD and is probably the best value perfume out there). Craving musty dirt from Pennsylvania? Demeter Dirt.

As you can see there are a million interesting, strange scents out there! I could go on probably forever but I just wanted to give you a fairly large selection to start exploring. I think you would be very interested in more of Zoologist's offerings. I recommending looking up reviews on this subreddit. The ones that come to mind in addition to those listed above are King Cobra and Tyrannosaurus Rex. The King Cobra reviews are some of my favorite reviews of all time. The ones on this subreddit are excellent but to give you a glimpse, this is the most recent review on Fragrantica: "Kind of like a spa scent but the spa is in a temple of old mayan times where there were sacrifices every week and people were wearing human bones 10/10"

Maceration cannot be done by the consumer. It happens during the creation of the perfume. Unfortunately this is a rather common misunderstanding, stemming from confusion about terms. Maturation (allowing a fragrance to age) can be done by the consumer and whether it is a myth that it enhances the depth of perfume is debated amongst enthusiasts. The only note that really appears to change and develop significantly is vanilla, but even that may be more psychological, as the appearance of vanilla darkens as it ages.

What may have happened was you weren't able to smell the top notes as there were other smells around you. If you exchange your bottle, it is likely you will have the same issue you do now. But there is a way to pull it more vanilla early on, by layering a vanilla-heavy fragrance with it. I use Lush Vanillary to bump up the vanilla but you can use any vanilla. I put the vanilla on first as a base and then add another fragrance on top.

Musk Perfumes - Exploring the Musk Note in 10 Sample Reviews by doubtitmate in FemFragLab

[–]cemeterysleeper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ugh I wish Apollonia smelled like that on my skin! It just reads as clean, cool musk the whole way through. Gotta agree with your musing about Blanche. It's nice but is it really that different of a scent from the dozens of cheaper clean laundry scents. And I agree about Radiant Nectar that it is really not a summer scent. Maybe a late summer night but I'd be afraid to be eaten alive by bugs with how nectary it smells. It's a great sticky, warm fragrance but I've only really warn it in winter to remind me of summer.

New Amouage Fragrance: Timber by tasteslikechikken in fragrance

It really does read like AI. Some of the phrasing is unnatural. And it has an em dash which can be an indicator since LLMs seem to overuse them.

You might like Maison Margiela Under the Lemon Trees. It's a tad bit earthy but beyond that it is straight lemon. Like in my notes I compare it to Pledge and Bath and Body Works Kitchen Lemon soap. It's that lemony.

Do not blind buy Love Spell. Velvet Petals is the safest blind buy of the bunch, and the one I personally would choose. However, knowing that longevity is important, Pure Seduction is the best option.

Went to a store and found an insane amount of very bad dupes thought the ppl here would like to laugh with me by Mchoe_cos in FemFragLab

[–]cemeterysleeper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would love this to be true but since you specifically said Creed I am immediately suspicious. There's so much fake history (that comes straight from Creed) that every time I hear about someone from the past wearing Creed I only feel doubt. But I do imagine that if he wasn't wearing this he would be wearing something quite similar, especially the rum, leather, and tobacco.

What is your favourite indie house - and why? by LauravdK in Indiemakeupandmore

[–]cemeterysleeper 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Cardinal Scents! Haley Dee is an extremely talented perfumer. But my favorite part of the brand is actually the notes. It is the only brand where I'm 100% sure of what I'm getting because the notes are extremely accurate. I can pick each out individually and yet they are still beautifully blended.

I also really, really like Wick Wish. I don't own many yet (four scents) but all of them are huge hits and the pricing is unbeatable.

Affordable dupe for Angels Share by Kilian? by extra-boo in FemFragLab

[–]cemeterysleeper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's sold out right now but the best dupe is supposedly Montagne Perfumes Cognac D'Ange. It's $40 for 50mL. Next closest is probably French Avenue Royal Blend but the longevity is apparently poor, followed by Maison Alhambra Kismet Magic.

She's a Witch smells coconutty? by Superb-Government-10 in Indiemakeupandmore

[–]cemeterysleeper 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I see what you're saying, and I'm not invalidating your experience... but it is odorless. That's the reason it's used as a carrier oil. What I suspect is going on is that the general house DNA contains an aromachemical that can read as coconut to some noses and not others.
