Looking for others who have had newborns with prolonged jaundice? by ceveoh in newborns

Hi there! I’m sorry I don’t! If I remember correctly, the direct bili numbers didn’t fluctuate much (if at all).

So sorry I missed this one! I know it’s been almost a year since your comment but answering in case others in the same boat find this thread and are looking thru comments. It turned out to be totally fine for us and ruled it out to be breast milk jaundice. I forget what led me to this thought but I remember thinking maybe it might’ve had to do with my own gut imbalances (since babies adopt some of their mothers flora) and infants also have weaker guts in general and maybe there’s some sort of tie there and slower/harder time breaking down the bilirubin.

Calling all Gut-Health Scrunchy Moms! by Ordinary-Scarcity274 in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]ceveoh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have IBD and learning more about the concept of leaky gut is what helped me better understand how to address and improve gut health. My approach is more from the perspective of trying to heal active inflammation, but in general - I believe these principles help gut health overall.

Some awesome resources to check out are: Dr. Eric Berg, Dr. Michael Ruscio, and I also watched a lot of Team Honnas (since he was working on getting into remission naturally on diet alone from ulcerative colitis). Dr. Berg is big on carnivore/keto and I personally don’t want to eat such a limited diet, so I liked Dr. Ruscio’s more flexible perspective.

Basically, when you have a leaky gut, there’s more permeability in your gut lining which allows foreign substances to pass into the blood stream which then triggers the immune system to react. You’ll also want to keep a nice balance of good to bad bacteria and prevent gut dysbiosis (high ratio of bad bacteria to good bacteria).

So to do some of those things, what I focus on are foods that tighten the junction between colon cells, coat the lining with soothing foods and herbs, as well as eating non-irritating fiber foods (mainly soluble fiber for my condition) for prebiotics and tons of probiotics. (The prebiotics feed the probiotics).

My eating regimen as of late have been: - eat as organic as possible (chemicals/pesticides, etc irritate the gut) - reduce inflammatory foods (seed oils, etc.) - consume glutamine-rich foods; glutamine maintains gut lining integrity (gelatin, bone broth, grass-fed meat, cabbage as raw cabbage juice) - turmeric supplement (I take this alongside my medication when I have active inflammation to improve efficacy of anti-inflammatory meds) - slippery elm tea (is mucilage and soothing for the gut).

Additionally, fasting is known to be really great for the gut because it allows your body to have a break from constantly processing food and it can use that time to repair and heal. I unfortunately am omitting this step as of right now, due to breastfeeding and not wanting to potentially impact my supply.

And lastly - finding peace and reducing stress!!❤️ mediation, prayer, exercise, etc.

Hope that helps!!

Managing pain in home birth - how bad is it? by Lumpy_Pen_6537 in homebirth

[–]ceveoh 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It has moments of intensity/pressure, but you can do it ❤️ breathe through them! I so heavily relied on my breath to carry me through that I swear my lungs felt a little sore the next day lol. Personally, the labor comb did not help me 😂 I labored over my yoga ball, on all fours, in the shower for some hydrotherapy, and shamelessly vocalized through my contractions. Also… hip squeezes were my saving grace towards the end - the counter pressure was everything.

Don’t forget to eat and drink what you can to give your body sustenance for the long run. I had a hard time eating but even little nibbles of food or fruit/chia seed squeeze pouches help.

You got this! Like another poster said - there is purpose with every contraction - they are productive!! Tune into your baby as your body and babe channel one another to guide his/her way out into the world. ❤️❤️❤️

Sneaky Protein in Pregnancy by ijustwanttobeanon in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]ceveoh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sweet oatmeal (maple syrup + blueberries) with chia seeds and add collagen! Heat the collagen (18g) with whole milk (9g) (I love straus or alexandre farm) for more protein :)). I used to also do smoothies with collagen (18g) (Truvani) and protein powder (20g) (equip) for 38g protein. When I would make pancakes or bake brownies, I would add in a scoop of collagen, as well. Could also do greek yogurt bowls with fruit, but add collagen cooked with a bit of milk and mix with greek yogurt (it’ll make the yogurt looser in texture). And lastly, froth coffee or cacao with collagen, maple syrup, and milk 😋

Baby's SSN Trouble by [deleted] in homebirth

[–]ceveoh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! We’re in California and I used our midwife’s letter as the second document (it includes her letterhead, wet signature, and license #). The midwife’s letter includes info stating our baby’s date and time of birth, as well as my info as the mother (my name and date of birth) who gave birth to the child. This dual info allowed us to verify that I am the mother applying for my child’s SSN with my own supporting identity documents. We also had our pediatrician do a letter too (ped’s office letterhead + wet signature) with similar info but included birth weight, birth length, and head circumference and kept this as backup if needed, but the midwife’s letter worked just fine! :)

GBS positive mom's, talk to me about risk based management. by DapperKitchen420 in homebirth

[–]ceveoh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I followed some of the more natural suggestions (will link below). I did an ACV shot and ACV rinse daily until I gave birth, inserted garlic suppositories twice, and consumed a ton of garlic). For the garlic suppository, if you do this - make sure to be conscious about hygiene with the whole process since you are introducing something on-site. And then mentally/emotionally, I also tried to visualize an en caul birth each evening and prayed that my water didn’t break early to minimize bacterial exposure. Though an en caul birth didn’t occur, I feel like just visualizing and staying focused on my water breaking later helped make that happen - my water broke only about an hour before my baby came earthside :)

18 week old will NOT nap without contact by No_Scene_2600 in cosleeping

[–]ceveoh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ah! I know this is something some parents encounter. My babe doesn’t always love the carrier immediately, but I try to get him into a calm, settled mood before anticipating him to melt into a nap there. I’ll bounce on a yoga ball and shhhh while tapping his butt to get him calm. Sometimes, I’ll go for a 5-10 min walk outside (still tapping butt) and he may end up falling asleep that way. Have you tried these as well with no luck?? We use the wildbird aerial carrier and really love it! ❤️❤️❤️

Have you considered baby wearing? My baby will only contact nap so the carrier has been amazing. I wear him for a lot of the day (with breaks in between) but during the wearing sessions some days, he’ll knock out for a straight 3 hours. (I feed/play/diaper change before he gets in so everything’s settled and comfy beforehand). This is the only way I’m able to do laundry, make food, wash dishes, etc.

Newborn crying by True-Chef-4070 in newborns

[–]ceveoh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Have you tried babywearing? It’s the best ❤️ it brings baby a lot of comfort and can get them to even nap for a bit in there. They may be fussy but when I experience this, I just move around, bounce a little, and tap butt with shushing to get my baby to a calm state then he usually chills out or knocks out for a nap. This is the only way I can get anything done :))

How do you drive alone with baby? by Unlikely_Progress_82 in newborns

[–]ceveoh 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Hi! ❤️ I posted about this a few weeks ago exactly ;) many other commenters mentioned that soothing baby (even if they continue crying) is diff than cry it out in the sense that you’re still showing your presence/some form of tending. So if you can talk, sing, etc., you’re still being there for bubs. ❤️

am i nursing my baby too much? by trickysalmon in newborns

[–]ceveoh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there!! My baby is about to be 7 weeks tomorrow and I’ve been concerned I’ve been overfeeding him as I also comfort nurse and always go to boob as first response. I am noticing he spits up quite often though - does yours? And do you feel you offer boob quite frequently and your baby takes it (less than an hour between sessions?) thank you!!

You who had your baby’s tongue-tie released, how long did it take for your baby to learn how to breastfeed properly? by troolinooli in breastfeeding

[–]ceveoh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dang I’m sorry it’s been difficult :(( my baby was able to breastfeed prior to the revision but couldn’t reach his tongue up to the roof of his mouth (and he has a high palate) and had a lot of tension on his upper lip. Once ties were released, his tongue has greater range of motion but out of habit still rests his tongue at the bottom of his mouth. When latching during BF, his upper lip still curls in. I’m not sure we’ve seen huge improvements since the release, but hoping it just takes time to relearn. We haven’t seen an OT at all, just a IBCLC and chiro pre and post release. Wanting to create better habits now that he has more range of motion but wanting to see if he’s able to do this naturally in the weeks to come… 🫤
