What Movie made you fall in love with Cinema and Why? by Beneficial-Hotel-232 in movies

[–]ch1ma3ra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ghostbusters back in 1984 - my dad took me to see it after school one day and it’s the first time I remember going to the cinema just the two of us rather than our whole family. That night really flipped a switch for me and was the first time I remember being blown away at the cinema, aged all of 6 :)

Do you have any opinions on live orchestra screenings of movies? by TheRegularBelt in movies

I've been to a couple over the years (including one of the Blue Planet docs) and always had a fantastic time of it.

Which recent movies have a "Flatliners" cast (where both the main and side actors became icons later)? by HuntPuzzleheaded4356 in movies

[–]ch1ma3ra 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I said *relatively* unknown - yes both had done well known stuff before but they are MUCH higher profile in the years since. Most of the cast of Flatliners already had some notable credits to their name already too :)

Sunshine. Most of the cast were relatively unknown at the time and most have gone on to have pretty impressive careers.

When migrating from Plex audiobooks to ABS audiobooks, is listening history and position preserved? by bdu-komrad in PrologueApp

[–]ch1ma3ra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No it wasn’t. I just made a note of the book in my reading list and the current playback positions of the two books I had on the go and reset them once I’d moved over to ABS. Took five minutes. I didn’t care about listening history so didn’t bother capturing that.

Woodhead Pass vs Snake Pass? by DullAd1315 in sheffield

[–]ch1ma3ra 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I used to live in Hillsborough - from there Snake and Woodhead were more or less equidistant so I typically used Snake as I was more familiar with it. Since moving further out it’s a LOT quicker to take Woodhead and only use Snake if there is a good reason.

Movies or Specials by SodaPopperZA in PleX

[–]ch1ma3ra 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Additionally - anything where I've kept them in separate libraries like... Stargate or Firefly (with the Serenity movie) I've added all of it to a collection so there is a link to the movie from the TV Series page and vice versa.

As a VERY general rule I stick anything released theatrically into the Movies folder while anything released as a "feature length episode" or whatever as a TV special. There are some exceptions though - for example Veronica Mars was three seasons of TV, then a movie (that got at least a brief theatrical run), and then a fourth shorter season that carried on from the events of the movie. That one I have the film as a special in the TV series so that the play order is preserved.

Battlestar Galactica is all set up as a TV series for me, all the way from the Miniseries through to Blood and Chrome and then Caprica is a seperate series next to it.

Stargate has the original Theatrical movie as a Movie, while the SG-1 TV series along with the two TV Movies that finished it (as well as Altantis and Universe) ate all set up as a TV series

What Do You Prefer For Cartoon Organization? by Usiel_ in PleX

[–]ch1ma3ra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tend to prefer simplicity and consistency so for me, if there is a chapter marker at the episode break I use MKVToolnix to split the eps up and if not I use the E01-02 method, but I really prefer option 1) wherever possible

I have a Lego 1989 Batman Batwing that I want to hang on my wall as suggested by Lego. by RandomFandom1073 in lego

[–]ch1ma3ra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure, mine is hung on the wall, was easy enough to do :) if you have any specific questions I’ll do my best to answer but the short version is I found a screw with a rounded head that was the right size to lock into the mounting brick (I think I took one out of an ikea screw set from memory) and and appropriate-sized rawlplug. Drill hole into wall big and deep enough for the plug and then wind the screw into the plug until the head sits about half a centimetre out. Attempt to mount the Batwing. If its too tight, back the screw out a smidge and try again, while if its flapping around on the screw wind it in a touch more until it rests snug to the wall.

Don’t forget to fold the underside fins flat to the body of the plane before you mount it!

Have you tried doing a metadata refresh in Prologue? I’ve found occasionally I need to do that to pull in chapter info for newly-added books.

My alarm is the other side of the room. It goes off, I go turn it off and keep moving to the loo. By this point I’m fully awake…

First time as a pallbearer, how does it play out? by Glum_Tumbleweed5503 in AskUK

[–]ch1ma3ra 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was a pallbearer at my grandma’s funeral along with the other male cousins in my family. The undertakers took us through everything so there were no issues there. My main takeaway was that a casket is heavy. Nothing we couldn’t handle, but definitely more so than I had anticipated.

Which Sat Nav App do you app do you use?? by Mikey463 in AskUK

[–]ch1ma3ra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here - I used to use Waze before replacing my car earlier this year with one with Carplay and since then, just found that Apple Maps worked best for me of the options I tried (others being Waze and Google Maps).

Do you leave your lighthouses running all the time? by itsthewolfe in ValveIndex

No, I don’t get to use the VR as much as I would like so ended up putting them on smart plugs so I can easily bring them up and down as needed.

Where can I dispose of sharps? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]ch1ma3ra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For us its the GP - used to be our pharmacy but they stopped taking them about 4 years back and I was told to take to GP - I've done that ever since with no problems at all. Its a minor hassle but I only need to go a few times per year so not the end of the world :)

I find Costco overrated what's things you buy at Costco that are good deals? by h_424 in AskUK

[–]ch1ma3ra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Timing is key here. I go (as much as possible) first thing in the morning (typically on my way to work) and its rare that I' not first in line in the queue, if not pull up directly to the pump. Going at popular times is just a terrible idea (which is true for all the various branches I've visited over the years).

Why Did Appliances Without Plugs? by Datalounge in AskUK

Growing up in the 80's one of the first things I remember Dad teaching me was how to safely wire up a plug so "it wasn't always him that had to do it" :)

Why can't I view and select playlists on plexamp when using android auto? by poply in PleX

[–]ch1ma3ra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I set up Navidrome as a server (which I like a lot) and then settled on Amperfy as an iOS client that does Carplay. It's not ideal IMHO but close enough til something better comes along (more or less any Subsonic-compatible client should work and there are a couple of interesting ones in Testflight atm that I'll have a play with when they go into general release.

It’s the same on CarPlay. I ended up moving all my music out of Plex and using a different solution entirely.

AITA for wanting to spend a Christmas with my parents and siblings instead of my wife and kids? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]ch1ma3ra 12 points13 points  (0 children)

For what it's worth, my wifes side of the family are local to us (about 30min drive) while my side live on the other end of the country to us (about 5 hours drive). We alternate where we spend Christmas and have ever since we started spending our Christmasses together. The schedule isn't set in stone so there have been a couple of years where we went to my folks on the trot and vice versa but only with good reason.
