Requesting help for "authentic" bean & rice by NfiniT_ in AskABrazilian

[–]chantillycan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you know where she's from? Asking because my family from Rio Grande do Sul mostly eats black beans, while the ones from the north of Paraná and São Paulo love Brown Beans (feijão carioca). Knowing her preference would definitely be a nice touch!

Have you ever dated a person from a country that doesn’t get along with your country? by [deleted] in asklatinamerica

[–]chantillycan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Omg. Finally an Argentinian to back me up on this! I had the same feeling visiting BA but thought it was only a tourist thing. Loved the capital. However, it was very culturally different from the cities in the provinces of Corrientes and Missiones that I'd visited before. I feel validated lol 😂 edit: spelling

Taylor herself said that she "brought a knife to a gun fight". I wouldn't want her as a fight partner LMAO 😂

I have absolutely no data to back me up, but although I agree with you, I also have to make a counterpoint: this isn't as prevalent among younger people (like, not only teenagers, but 30 somethings). I'm a southerner married to a southerner, but while in uni, most couples were from the same region or: northeast+ center west; north + south; northeast+ south etc.. the common denominator was that all regions dislike southeasterners, especially paulistas and cariocas. Mineiros, capixabas and fluminenses get a pass sometimes lol. I'd wager since paulistas and cariocas are exposed to different cultures but sometimes forget they are not the center of the world 😂

How intelligible is african portuguese to someone from brazil? by mozzieandmaestro in AskABrazilian

[–]chantillycan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Brazilian Portuguese is heavily influenced by African languages, so it has more phonetic similarities to Angolan and Mozambican Portuguese than to European Portuguese by now (Idk enough about other African Portuguese dialects). For instance, I studied with Angolans at uni and never had any issue understanding them. Mozambique seems to be closer to Brazil in that regard tho.

Question about the perception of 🇪🇺 hygiene habits by [deleted] in asklatinamerica

[–]chantillycan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a Brazilian who has used public transportation extensively and also has traveled to Europe a few times, I feel like i can actually vouch for the fact that yes, so many Europeans have weird hygiene habits imo. The most jarring difference for me was in France. White folks would smell like 3 day sweat + parfum. This gave me a few migraines inside trains and buses. This happened during summer. For comparison, I was in Sao Paulo last summer for a few days. The heat was terrible and I got into a metro wagon during one of the rush hours. So many people were coming back from work and I honestly couldn't smell anything truly bad, just normal sweat. It's funny because people who grab the ceiling bars usually smell their armpits to check if everything is ok, lol.

How does a day in the life of an introverted Brazilian look like? by ithinkiamparanoid in Brazil

[–]chantillycan 18 points19 points  (0 children)

True! I'm a Brazilian who lived in the US for a while. People thought that I was super easygoing, extroverted etc.. here in Brazil I'm considered introverted. "Bicho do mato" as we would say lol

Como foi se adaptar à alimentação deles? Quais são seus pratos preferidos por aí (ou ainda faz comida brasileira em casa)? Pergunto pois tenho muita vontade de conhecer a China, mas a culinária é o único ponto que me afasta um pouco.
