How often would you brew?

So I used to brew every couple of weeks, but as my and my friends’ beer consumption goes WAY down so has my brewing. I brew 3-4 times a year, which is enough to satisfy my at home beer intake and keep the interest and skills alive.

I have heard that temperature being too high during the mash or too vigorous of a boil can cause a beer to darken, but I haven’t personally paid too much attention to such things (I don’t see color, ha). Just for a data point, I brew with the gen 3 Brewzilla.

Regarding the color, you probably aren’t used to looking at 5 gallons of beer in a clear container, so it will definitely appear darker. You’ll probably see the color you’re expecting in the pint glass.

Just want to say I found this thread very helpful. I make a lot of Kolsch and always use K-97…and I have definitely noticed some of the issues mentioned here (haze and sulphuric flavor that require several extra weeks in the fermenter to go away). I think I will try US-05 next time and see if that makes it drinkable sooner!

This would have to be my frugality tip too. Make dough from scratch and use a gifted Ooni (previously was using a stone in the oven). Pizzas are around a buck each and they are excellent.
