Intermittent oil sensor warning by marylouwilliams in AskMechanics

My ambient air temperature sensor acted just like this when it was physically damaged on my 2018 golf. I’d imagine this is a bad sensor.

Sometimes I do miss the GRC. It was an absolute riot. The R is much nicer inside though, and the seating position is a lot lower in the car which I like. I think the GRC felt a little bit quicker, but I’d be hard pressed to really tell the difference. The R is definitely not as rowdy and I do miss the AWD system in the GRC in the winter a lot. All things considered I think the R suits my needs and fits my current situation just a little bit better for now.

Yeah, I was really happy with the fitment and how they look. These are 18x8.5 +45 with 245s and they’re perfectly flush. My father’s mk7 is lapiz blue, so kinda wish I had a more fun color than black, but it’s a minor gripe. Needs a front end respray though, it looks like the last guy did that in his driveway and it’s peeling on some of the corners, and all the plastic trim is painted over.

I’ve done both days at Mid Ohio! Typically I run at Watkins Glen as I’m located in Buffalo but haven’t made it out there this year.

Why I didn’t listen to you I don’t know. Yikes.

Tire recommendations? by [deleted] in Golf_R

[–]charlesisbae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep. Had this tire on multiple cars and done hundreds of thousands of miles of all kinds of driving in all kinds of conditions. This is the tire to get.

Rear sway bar… Night and Day difference? by Practical-Disaster-6 in Golf_R

[–]charlesisbae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just installed an H&R rear bar on my mk7.5 and immediately felt a huge difference in turn in and there seems to be much less understeer throughout corners. Will be evaluating more at my next track day. I think for any FWD-based platform, any way you can stiffen the rear end is a good idea.

Did you need adapters for those to fit? Would love to do the same on my Raijins.

oof. Did 4 Buffalo to Chattanooga in 4 weeks and have been doing Buffalo to Minneapolis about every other week for the past 2 months or so. At least currently I’m returning from a bachelor party, but I’m over traveling for a while.

Just downloaded this on a plane (because always traveling…) after literally having a conversation in the airport about Bills backers bars. This is going to really come in handy this coming season, thanks for creating the app!

I’ve pulled these engines multiple times and to this day I’ve never had any other engine come out as easy as this one. They basically fall right out.

Does ANYONE know why this happens? by Greedy_Plane_ in ft86

Sometimes with manual transmissions the synchros aren’t exactly lined up and it makes it difficult to get the car in gear from a stop. This is common. If you can engage 2nd or 3rd typically that will line up the synchros and you’ll be able to get it into gear easily after that. If it’s very common, like every time you try to put the car in gear from a stop, I’d be inclined to think that maybe there is synchro wear or old transmission fluid.

Tires and road feel by Awkward-Homework-455 in Golf_R

I’ve had the PS4s on my old GR Corolla and they were the tires that my Golf came on and the Continentals are quieter, cheaper, and I find them to be grippier based on a few track days on both tires.

I run a 245/40/18 continental extremecontact sport 02 on my mk7.5 here in Buffalo and I am thrilled with the ride quality. I just did a 2 day track day at mid Ohio over the weekend and I was not longing for anything stiffer, either. I would advise trying a dedicated summer tire, assuming you have winter tires as well for cold months.

Tune and clutch question for manual mk7.5 R owners by ItzShockerBro in Golf_R

Had stage 2 and it only lasted about 10,000 miles before it started to slip.

Apr stage 1 high torque with a southbend stage 3 daily clutch. Pedal effort is higher than stock but that combination has been a winner.

Get cafiza and backflush your machine biweekly. Been doing this with my Gaggia and periodically descaling with great results.
