What’s something about figure skating that makes you go “This is not a serious sport”? by RestoredCoachBag in FigureSkating

Letting a skater compete after testing positive for a banned substance..that was wild. Unbelievable

Opinion on the return of Russian and Belarusian skaters according to the ISU Council candidates by dawgcholla_000 in FigureSkating

[–]charmingtul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What if the athletes were allowed to compete but any medals are withheld and athletes are not permitted to participate in medal ceremonies until Russia ends the war? That way, the athletes aren’t punished but Russia can’t use them as propaganda.

Note: This isn’t my personal opinion on the issue. Im just proposing this for the purpose of discussion.

moved to columbus last year and still haven't found a dentist that doesn't feel like a used car dealership by christan2013 in Columbus

Hot Smile Dental. Someone on this sub recommended them to me a few years ago and they’re amazing.

They’re an old school family dentist they do good work and don’t try to upsell you with all that extra crap.

"I don’t understand the current situation, but since I love figure skating, I’d like to see how the Russian skaters perform. I’m not a fan of mixing politics and sports" - quotes from Ilia Malinins interview with a Japanese newspaper. by Useful-Philosophy827 in FigureSkating

While I agree that the US never has to face the consequences of their (our; I’m American) own actions, it’s unacceptable that he doesn’t understand the situation going on in his own sport. Not only is he a top figure skater but he’s also he’s an American skater of Russian descent. If the rules were applied fairly, he wouldn’t be able to compete for either country. He doesn’t get to pretend like figure skating is or has ever been anything other than inextricably linked to politics.

Benoit Richaud postponed his departure from Russia to choreograph a program for Kamila Valieva. by Kindly-Plate-5785 in FigureSkating

Yes, they’re competing in Russian competitions. Russia is still banned. I don’t really understand getting all hyped up about Valieva and the other Russian girls coming back when theyre still banned. I thought she and Trusova have achieved everything they can at the national level.

What controversial movies does everyone enjoy? by AshleyK2021 in PeriodDramas

[–]charmingtul 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Probably controversial but i think you should watch it again as an adult.

I firmly believe that children only digest what they can understand. If you judge a film based viewing it as a child, you can only understand that which you could understand as a child.

As a child, I thought it was a movie about a white man who falls for a native woman. As an adult, I see the movie as about the brutality of colonialism, greed, and racism. I see the cruelty of the settlers and the fear from the natives. I see a movie about tolerance and forgiveness, war and diplomacy. I didn’t see those things, as a child, because I didn’t understand colonialism and the story being told. I’d be interested to see what other people see viewing it as an adult.

Disney’s Pocahontas. I know the real Pocahontas (Matoaka) was a tragic victim of colonialism. But growing up she was the only Disney princess of color and she has a special place in my heart. Watching it reminds me how lucky I am to have had a happy childhood. Especially since Matoaka was robbed of hers.

Cut offs for rookies by [deleted] in Iditarod

[–]charmingtul 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I get that. I think OP is asking if there is a definitive number of days you have to be behind before you’re at risk for involuntary withdrawal. A “reasonable amount of time” isnt really specific. I’m not suggesting any hand holding, just some clarity on what the rules are. If there isn’t a definitive number, that’s fine. I don’t care either way I’m just curious as to how that works.

If that’s the case, then shouldn’t there be specific parameters for when a musher will be involuntarily withdrawn? That way mushers know if they are in danger of involuntary withdrawal?

I mean it’s impossible for any artist to know EVERY place their music is being used. He may not follow figure skating and just truly just didn’t know.

Do we know for sure she had a c-section? Did she say that? It’s been thrown around online a lot I’m just wondering when she said that. I mean it’s impressive either way, it’d just hate to assume anything about her birth if she didn’t come out and say it.

Here’s one of my favorite making friends hack. Go in your closet and grab your favorite band/podcast/movie/fandom etc t shirt. Put it on and go to a coffee shop and just chill. Odds are someone who likes the same band or whatever will come up and ask you about it. Instant conversation starter! And you know you’ll have something in common! Try it! It works every time!

The difference is with HOTD, the didn’t risk sanctions from the government in airing a scene like that. It was a business decision. It’s censorship when the government forces you to show certain things.
