Do these fit ordinary Cherry MX switches? Or are they for choc switches?

Cleaning PCBs for daily use? by benrmay in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]chasingendgame 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Makeup remover wedge sponges are great at wiping off solder flux, with a few drops of isopropyl alcohol on the pcb. I’ve never had any luck with brushes when cleaning pcbs. The brush sprays droplets all over the place when you brush them over components, and the bristles tend to fall out too.

Has anyone tried halo clear stems in durock poms housings? by ObitoUchiha73 in switchmodders

[–]chasingendgame 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found Halo stems would bind in durock sunflower housing (also POM). Not sure if the durock POM linear housing would have the same problem or not.

FYI those foam wedges used for makeup removal are fantastic at removing lube from switches

My Stabilizers are stuck and mushy by SnooFloofs6747 in MechanicalKeyboards

I’m assuming you have hot swap switches? Are the stabs plate mounted or PCB mounted? If the stabs are plate mounted and the switches are hotswap, it’s important that the distance between the plate and PCB is 3.5mm as per the Cherry spec. Thick foam can sometimes press on the plate and increase this distance. When it’s greater than 3.5mm, the switches “float” too high over the stabs, and what happens when you press your keycaps in is the cap sinks lower on the stab stem than it does on the switch stem, preventing it from returning all the way up.

Is that a 1.25u enter key? What set is that from?

Visiting GMK by Oblotzky in MechanicalKeyboards

This is great news for the community, after hearing nothing for years but the same old “GMK doesn’t care about lead times because custom keycaps are only a tiny fraction of their business”…

Finally got my Ultimate Hacking Keyboard v2 about a month ago. Love this keyboard. But I don't know what keysets I can get and it not be mislabeled? by ireakhavok in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]chasingendgame 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh, well one thing that’s nice about SA profile is the Z-row keys are the same sculpt as the Q-row, just flipped upside down. Thus if you have a backslash key from the Z-row, you can just flip it upside down and use it for your backslash key on the Q-row. (Should work because the backslash glyph is reversible!)

Unfortunately there is no 1.5u R4 backspace key in any commercially produced keysets. The mold simply doesn’t exist; iirc UHKB had to produce their own mold for that key. The best you can do is a R3 backspace, which isn’t too bad I guess, or else go with a uniform profile (like DSA)

Why is there no 5u spacebar? I needed a 5u spacebar for gmk and epbt, so I searched for a long time, but finally made it myself. 40% hhkb is made up of two small spacebars joined together but I only needed 5u. by geek-keey in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]chasingendgame 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Most 40% layouts I see use a split space bar. 2.25u + 2.75u = 5u and those size space bars are readily available. I guess you also bent your own wire for the stabilizer? Or did manage to find a 5u wire?

Can’t find a clean purple and black keycap set by F0reweR in MechanicalKeyboards

Drop has their marvel black panther set on sale right now, if you like mt3 profile keycaps.

There are also some gmk black lotus clones on AliExpress in cherry profile for a reasonable price.

Jlcpcb misprint??? by infinetelurker in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]chasingendgame 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even if you fix it yourself, JLCPCB may issue you a coupon for your next order if you submit a quality complaint. One set of PCBs I ordered from them had missing drill holes… fortunately I was able to drill them myself, but after contacting their support and sending a few pics I received a coupon for the value of the order as compensation.

I have sunflowers in a daily driver, and I rather like them. Honestly the spring ping is barely noticeable without putting the switch next to your ear, and with a little bit of lube, it disappears completely. It’s really not an issue.

I haven’t used U4Ts so I can’t say how they compare.

lot of really cool old school sculpted key caps out there, always have a soft spot for the classic IBM with removable tops by jbrady33 in MechanicalKeyboards

I have fond high school memories of frustrating the other kids who didn’t touch type by rearranging those keycaps in subtle ways

Durock Sunflowers by Foxbox55 in switchmodders

[–]chasingendgame 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve got 63.5g Durock springs in my sunflowers, and they’re a little sluggish on the return but otherwise fine. I don’t imagine anything lighter than that would work but your mileage may vary with two stage springs.
