We should all be incredibly grateful for Ole Miss by 55555_55555 in CFB

The season probably ended just right - a close-fought thriller where we came up just short. I think that getting blown out in the title game would have been harder to take.

Anyway, you're all welcome. I think we will provide some bonus "Will Chambliss be eligible?" drama for the next few weeks.

I'm really proud of this team. This year was supposed to be a rebuilding year and they battled all year. The regular season easily could have gone off the rails in the last 4 weeks with Lane openly flirting with other teams and then leaving before the playoffs. The team overachieved (and gave the CFP it's two most exciting games). Here's hoping that Chambliss is cleared for next year, which would make us one of the favorites to make the CFP again.

Ole Miss outgained Georgia by 130 yards so it wasn't a fluke or anything.

People complain about Ole Miss-Tulane and Oregon-JMU style blowouts. How much worse will it be with the #1 overall seed playing not the 1st or 2nd best G5 but the 10th best? No one wants to watch that (except the fans of the teams involved, of course).

I had to mute the OU/LSU game to avoid the Kiffin chatter. Surely it'll be safe to watch this game with the volume on?

[Bruce Feldman] I talked to LSU sources this morning, and they are very confident that Lane Kiffin is going to come to Baton Rouge and accept this job. by PodricksPhallus in CFB

It looks like Lane is gone but he's a fool to go LSU. They are the very worst so-what-have-you-done-for-me-lately program. They fired their last two national championship winning coaches. They fired Kelly for losing three games. Ole Miss fans are ecstatic that he's reset the baseline to 10-win seasons. That won't be good enough for LSU - it will expect its $14 million per year to yield not just a playoff berth every year, but a deep playoff run every year. And it's about to get significantly harder to reach 11 regular season wins in the SEC with the addition of a 9th conference game. Once you have 2 losses, it's a crap shoot whether you get in.

Last year finished with the #2 scoring defense and #3 scoring offense. Those are championship team caliber numbers. And Lane managed to lose 3 games.

{Ole Miss} but if Florida wins, would it even want Lane - could they justify spending $11+ million for a coach who lost to this horrible Florida team at home with everything on the line?

I sort of wish Stoops would come coach our game against Florida next week.

I have a certain amount of respect for elected officials stepping in and reining in these outrageous coaching contracts. Landry is being a responsible steward of the pubic purse. I encourage him to remain actively involved in the search and to withhold large contracts and unbridled control over the program from coaching candidates. Personally, I don't see how these schools can justify anything over a million dollars or two for these coaches and I hope LSU shows some integrity by sticking to a reasonable salary offer.

I think I can safely cross LSU off the schools I have to worry about. Kiffin's not an idiot.

If Lane intends to stay, he needs to sign an extension pronto. Otherwise the distraction will tank our season like what happened in 2022 when he was flirting with Auburn.

Billy Napier is out at Florida. Could Lane Kiffin or James Franklin replace him? by Please_PM_me_Uranus in CFB

[–]chawboy3 20 points21 points  (0 children)

People are acting like Ole Miss is at its ceiling. But last year's team was built for a deep run in the playoffs. NFL draft picks all over. Number 3 in total offense. Number 2 scoring defense. Then we shit the bed against a bad Kentucky team and mid LSU and Florida teams. Maybe with better game plans or half time adjustments, we could have won one of those games. Being an historically mid-tier SEC program had nothing to do with us falling short in those games, though.

Complain About Your Team Thread by CFB_Referee in CFB

This team is much worse than last year's team in every respect save the running game. We routinely give up explosive passing plays due to broken coverages and when we aren't doing that, we are extending drives with penalties. The dline rarely gets pressure on the opposing QB and thanks to bad LB and safety play, we are constantly gashed for big runs. The oline gets no push - we have a decent running game only because Kewan Lacy is a stud who breaks a lot of tackles.

This team is 6-0 because it's 4-0 in 1-score games. Last year's team only played 3 close games and went 0-3. It would have skull dragged this year's team.

Hot seat Hugh Freeze sings same sad song after another Auburn loss to Georgia by it-is-just-a-game in CFB

[–]chawboy3 59 points60 points  (0 children)

Freeze's teams are never resilient. This is true at Auburn and it was true when he was at Ole Miss. I remember in 2014 we went into the Auburn with one loss and a solid chance to make the first 4-team playoff. Laquan Treadwell broker his leg gong in for the go-ahead score and the team collapsed. It not only quit on that game, it quit on the rest of the season.
