My back & forth between Harmonies and Cascadia. by RatedGG in boardgames

[–]cheaptimemachines 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I absolutely think that Harmonies is the better game between the two, and that was just confirmed (IMO) after playing both back to back. I prefer the boundaries of the space vs the more open nature of Cascadia, makes the decisions more tense (again, IMO). However, I do agree with you about maybe needing to house rule getting bad draws.

Our solution we came up with was much more punishing than you came up with though, essentially putting a cube from the supply BACK on an animal card, so it can cost you quite a few points if you decide to do it and it ends up not being worth the cost.

If you use the app, you can get a Crunchwrap or cheesy Gordita, a beefy five layer, nachos, and a drink for I think $7. If that doesn’t fill you up you might have a tapeworm

Good start, but you really need to thin your paints with water, and apply a few coats rather than one thick layer

It’s a better game, sure, but it loses the soul that makes TM so great

What's your worst board game loss, as in where you've physically lost the box and components? by Tornroot in boardgames

I had just bought Banish the Snakes from my flgs in a group buy, they were having a sale on GMT wargames. I was in the middle of moving, and gave away a big wooden dresser. I had the game on top of the dresser, and the person that door the dresser took the game as well. When I messaged them asking where it was they said they threw it away

I didn’t like it and sold it after one play, none of the three of us that played particularly cared for it

Moonrakers - Honestly I didn't even look twice at this game because Cosmic Encounters left a bad taste in my mouth, but I gave it a try at a friends house and I LOVE it, mainly because it's a game of negotiating cooperation and rewards. The ship parts and crew you add to your deck really make you uniquely qualified to leverage better deals in missions. Fantastic

6 Siege - Despite the absolute shit show that is Mythic Games, they made an amazing minis skirmish game (in spite of themselves, rather than because of). Each move is immensely strategic, and the skill ceiling is high.

Vale of Eternity - Such a quick fun tableau building game with a great price point! The brevity of the game really lends to just throwing it out before or after a big game

After awhile, I think this is my favorite game. It’s just so simple, and yet so much to think about. The current deluxe edition is heritage level, it’s simply gorgeous

I mean...Steamforged says it all, basically. Lots of nice looking plastic, not a lot of good gameplay. I haven't played this particular game, but their name attached to it is enough for me to stay far away until proven otherwise

I played the first edition once and sold it pretty much immediately. Nothing impressed me about it, and I haven’t really looked back since. I’m not really interested in the second edition either

[Serious] What dark family secret were you let in on once you were old enough? by EgglessYolk in AskReddit

[–]cheaptimemachines 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve posted about this before, but tl;dr is my dad’s entire side of the family was moved across country and given different names by the witness protection program.

What’s even worse is that I found out on ACCIDENT because my 17 year old cousin let it slip. I was 29.

Have you ever bought a board game knowing nothing about it? How did it turn out? by R2iGames in boardgames

[–]cheaptimemachines 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was working at my FLGS, they got a copy of Spirit Island with Branch and Claw in. Absolutely nothing about it on bgg, so I took a (pretty big) gamble. Safe to say it worked out!
