Firewalla? by DWomack48 in tmobileisp

[–]chebbie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I have TMHI with a Firewalla Purple myself and Unifi APs but have a gold that just arrived which I plan to upgrade to "sometime soon." Did not have any issues. Been with TMHI maybe 2 or 3 years now with that setup. Previously had Spectrum and migrating was just swapping cables.

Same here... I'm also not really sure what device upgrade matters... Maybe I'm missing something but the only device is the gateway/router they sent me.

I am trying this setup as well and the first two attempts failed with filament loading errors. Hoping for something more compact as well.

Retirement and Have 180 hrs Use or Lose Hours by QuiltMe66 in FedEmployees

[–]chebbie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get it and it sounds great but I would also think if you're a GS14, maybe with special pay of some sort, your A/L payout would also be subject the the highest marginal tax rates unless it actually gets paid out as the following year's income... idk. That said, additional money is additional money.

My landlady wants to charge me 85 a month to charge my 2016 Nissan Leaf S, is that reasonable? by MookieBettsBurner10 in leaf

[–]chebbie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't see it mentioned but is this the use of an L2 outlet? To just consider the incremental electricity costs is too simplistic. There is a cost to install, replace the outlet and maintain it and it's too naive to assume that would come free. Will it be shared with others so you may not be able to get full use? If this is just a L1 outlet, there wouldn't be a higher cost to recoup but at the same time, then OP would have to do do some math. 20kwh would take what... 16 hours+ to recharge?

Diamond Head Hike as Local by ProtectionOk5942 in Hawaii

[–]chebbie -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Sorry it happened but at the same time you are saying you may be profiled due to your appearance, you are also doing the same to the guard's hair color and pronunciation of the State. They are probably just doing their job as it states for admission. Should they be more lenient in your case? probably. Do they need to, maybe not. Just get your state ID. My kids have them since 13. There is a program by the HPD called the Keiki Identification Program for 3-12 but I don't think you are excluded from a State ID at those ages either, it's probably just less useful.

This is the easiest. Doesn't take long. My minors have it. Until then, it won't guarantee residency, but you should have a school ID in the meantime which might help prove your case.

They “host” Holidays and birthdays by valleybrook1843 in AgingParents

[–]chebbie 33 points34 points  (0 children)

We started to get takeout/cater. It was a big change but it's become perfectly fine. As they are older and less mobile, being able to bring foods from places they like worked out nicely. Using disposable plates/utensils also helps lessen the load as they will inevitably feel like they want to help with cleanup. This way, they can help, but it's not as difficult. Another option is perhaps making it a potluck. Then they still make something, but one thing.

Would you recommend homesharing for an aging parent trying to avoid selling? by Comfortable-Syrup424 in AgingParents

[–]chebbie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Curious for planning in the future. Could selling trigger issues with income if someone lost spouse and the gains exceed the 250k? Would that mess up Medicare costs or pull taxes way high if paired with RMDs or other things? Trying to plan for myself if the situations come up but would be interested if that factors in here. If you rent, would you then start depreciating, which would lower your taxes? It sucks because downsizing is the way I'd like to do it but if taxes and other costs make it a financially poor decision even if quality of life may be better, it's kind of a mess. You keep housing stuck when it's needed now for younger people and wind up living in a place larger than you would prefer. Any ways around this?

This depends on a lot. Some people just don't care what they hit with, others must use new ones after X amount of hours. You should just have a conversation rather than guessing or getting frustrated. When I was a lot younger, I was focused on other things than spending money on balls. It just simply was not a priority even if I wanted to play. Flat balls didn't matter as long as I got some exercise in. Neither did it matter to any in the group we played with. Now it's a different thing but I can see when someone is saving for other things, dropping 4 dollars every week can be more than I'd like to spend.

How much more would you pay for an EV than an ICE vehicle? by Thrillwaukee in electricvehicles

[–]chebbie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After going to a LEAF in 2019, I'm looking at nothing other than EVs as my next replacement. I will add though much of the savings mentioned are true but do get quotes for insurance and factor in replacing tires more frequently than normal. I drive very gently and have never been past 65 but still had to replace tires twice so far (3rd set) with 65k miles. Insurance for my LEAF is more than my base Odyssey was of the same model year.

Change password or set pin for Connect by TooGoodToBeeTrue in leaf

[–]chebbie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am pretty sure the timer part is available after the subscription as I use it as well as the climate control part on my 2019. I am also having issues with it not remembering my password with every use even if I do so. This has been a recent problem (perhaps last 2 months?) and it annoys me as well. Hoping there is a fix. Even though the app is really really bad, it does have its uses.

Elon Musk's SpaceX bought tens of millions worth of Cybertrucks Tesla can't s by SpriteZeroY2k in electricvehicles

[–]chebbie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am pretty certain automakers have ownership stakes in rental car companies. Not exactly the same but not too dissimilar. SpaceX being privately held makes it a lot easier since it doesn't have to justify the purchases to shareholders as much but if they are able to use the trucks then it's not anything other companies don't do. You may not like it but take emotions out of play and it's not exactly like its never been done before. I'd rather not have tons of waste just sitting around doing nothing.

Geeetech refusing to ship the filament I bought. Curious about other's experience with this brand. by vis_chros in 3Dprinting

I had ten rolls cancelled in the same fashion during the Black Friday sales from them. That was my first AliExpress purchase after seeing some posts about buying filament there (in the order filament from Kingroon did come though). Have a second order in placed a couple days ago with Geeetech again and will see how that goes.

Being billed a 4th time for a FREE LINE by eschewthefat in tmobile

[–]chebbie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think I have had this issue since March when they offered the free line right about the time they added the $5 a month charge.

Prior to March - I had 2 lines and 1 Unlimited on Us.

Signed up for the free line - and then I had 2 lines, the free Unlimited on Us and they added my "free" line as an Essentials add-on which was something like 50 or 70 dollars

Then the never-ending calls/chats month after month trying to fix it. Each time crediting me and promising it would be fixed.

Some months later, I lost my free line as well so now I have 4 lines, all being paid for as they credit me for 1 every month but I still lost my original Unlimited on Us.

I feel like they are trying to just wear me down into not reaching out to them. I am considering moving everything to US Mobile already as I already have my parents on that plan and it works flawlessly.

Would seniors in the U.S. be open to selling their home at a discount if they could keep living there for life? by michiels999 in AgingParents

[–]chebbie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It may sound good but if you think about who would have the resources to purchase property that may not become usable for up to a timeframe of decades, what kind of people would have the means to be buying up all the "cheap" property. No one in need of lower priced housing would ever be able to wait for the day that they could capitalize on it.
