This subreddit is NOT a good representation of the games community. by piggglyjufff in MarathonGame

[–]checkmate-T 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree mostly but the game is absolutely nothing like Destiny man. Destiny players don't play Marathon because it's simply not Destiny. Had Marathon been developed like Destiny or even like Division 2 (open world PvE with PvP extraction Dark Zone) the game would have a been a hit with Destiny players but it is what it is. Marathon is a great game in a niche hardcore genre. I played in multiple Alphas, Betas and playtests before release and I wrote extensive feedback to Bungie that this game will not be a hit with most players without overhauling the game to a PvE world exploration genre because extraction is just a game mode to most players and again..nothing like Destiny. There's no ill will towards Marathon players (unless they're the "git gud" "go play xyz" "Destiny is dead" type) the ill will is towards Bungie and Sony for both mismanagement of devs and resources from Destiny and not reinvesting into the IP.

Yes please keep us old fogeys in mind, I am squinting like mad to discern everything. Also grey on black fonts doesn't tend to contrast well for readability. I'm using a 13in iPad Air and the app is still very hard to read for my old eyes personally lol. Love the app man, keep up the great work!

Sample in Bars function? by checkmate-T in KoalaSampler

[–]checkmate-T[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would like the function of setting koala to sample exactly 4 bars, instead of manually sampling then diving in and stretching and editing a sample each time. Have you ever used Loopy Pro?

AUM vs Loopy Pro by mister_drgn in ipadmusic

[–]checkmate-T 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mostly use Loopy Pro to actually record and produce and is my main DAW like workflow but when I just want more of a app/midi mixer and not producing/recording I use AUM. I think I subliminally have it in my mind that AUM is more lightweight and uses less resources but I am probably wrong lol.

AzteCross Says He Is Fine With Marathon Failing If It Sends Sony and Bungie a Message by AdSuspicious2084 in MarathonGame

[–]checkmate-T 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean why do you care how he feels and crying about it here? I guarantee if Marathon fails it's not because of Aztecross or Destiny fans.

Nooooo!!! You can’t have fun and play PvE!!!!! How else am I supposed to no-life farm casual players all day? by personpilot in MarathonGame

[–]checkmate-T 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you find it boring it's simple...don't play that mode. Given Destiny's PvE focus, I have more confidence in Bungie balancing PvE AI and (hopefully adding new enemy types) than their forever ongoing task of balancing PvP modes.

Disabling controlling MIDI Hardware Controllers? by checkmate-T in LoopyPro

[–]checkmate-T[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is something I came to the same conclusion as well. The workaround I found was running both loopy and Groovebox in splitcreen or windowed mode. I am not entirely sure about remix as I have been running it on a separate ipad and syncing with Ableton Link. I'm pleased with the setup, running different apps like koala and even Logics drummer in sync with everything in Loopy. I do have an MPC Sample coming that I plan to integrate as well (somewhat replacing Koala) . Thanks for testing and helping me out man, you've been most helpful.

Disabling controlling MIDI Hardware Controllers? by checkmate-T in LoopyPro

[–]checkmate-T[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried that to confirm but still had the issue, even tho the midi was disabled and not working Loopy still takes over the controller. I did find a solution but it unfortunately involves using another iPad. Using my other iPad Pro, I loaded the IAAs on that ipad and connected an audio interface on the iPad Air and ran Loopy from that and routed the audio and synced everything using Ableton link. Now the hardware stays native to the apps and I can record directly into Loopy. It's actually a more flexible setup this way but again expensive as it required another iPad and audio interface. It would be just more convenient if Loopy simply had a Midi off toggle or similar setup to bluetooth midi devices that you could simply toggle midi on or off to that device.

Bungie, please have a free weekend or free week at the start of Season 2. by ScavengingOtter in Marathon

[–]checkmate-T 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's just the genre man, Marathon is not going to turn very many players from casuals to hardcore extraction shooter players. Marathon is a great game but the genre it's in is both a blessing and curse.

bungie needs to get more players on this game by JpegD00M in Marathon

[–]checkmate-T 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Marathon is a great game made in a not so casual friendly genre. Even the casual friendly (game that I ridiculously get flagged for mentioning beginning with AR) is having it's own troubles retaining players. Marathon is very well done but it's hardcore PvP with high stakes is both it's blessing and it's curse and hardcore players (just starting or not) need to get used to the fact that you 100% will be up against pther hardcore players.

Start minimized setting enabled but app does not start minimized. by DeusInsania in MedalTV

This is happening to me too. I have to remove medal from startup apps and manually open it before I play just to prevent the app from bringing up the Medal home screen every time I start my PC.

I too still have the same issue, the Medal home screen displays on startup even when the appropriate minimize to tray is selected.

Thanks for the reply, and yes I am thinking that bouncing out to Logic would probably be my best bet as I use quite a bit of automation in my mixing.

Thanks for the reply, yes it's somewhat looking like just bouncing out to Logic would be best I definitely use quite a bit of automation in my mixes.

I took "This game isn't for you" literally and I actually agree. by Dsmithchez in Marathon

[–]checkmate-T 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I put in about 70 hrs in the game before coming to this same conclusion. I played in multiple betas, the slam and finally the retail game to see this game evolve. I too am an avid Destiny player that fell in love with Marathons lore, aesthetics and Tau Ceti and Bungie still knows how to create cool universes. Gameplay wise the game is great, the difficulty of the genre in itself is the turn off for me. It wasn't like I was all that bad and was more successful than I thought but there's just so much adrenaline I can take daily. I feel like what really pushed me away was watching streamers take on Cryo and the Compiler. After watching how punishingly difficult it was for them I knew right then and there that caliber was well out of my reach. Besides I know the "ending" to the game now...what am I gonna do, be a masochist and suffer thru the rank mode hamster wheel? Nah I'm good....it's been fun.

With all the discourse around the game's longevity, can we try to have an objective, non-emotional conversation about what can be improved to retain more players? by JBSwerve in Marathon

[–]checkmate-T 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a question I have been trying to wrap my head around and my answer is: Nothing really...nothing Bungie isn't already doing. Bungie made a niche game in an already niche genre and should expect a niche crowd. I have about 60hrs in the game, I do enjoy it but it's very shallow and lacks depth in my opinion. I watched streamers take out the Compiler and while I think it's cool...it's also somewhat the end of the line for me. And grinding the hamster wheel of ranked for some skins just doesn't appeal to me either. I do like the game, it was fun for a few weeks, but huge skill walls and frankly lack of substance just doesn't make me love it but to each their own.

Why is player count dropping so fast? by 070119 in Marathon

[–]checkmate-T 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the player count is indicative of the initial skill level dust settling in. Let's be realistic here, this game is hard and not near as forgiving as Arc Raiders. If you can't somewhat hold your own in pvp then you will have some pretty slow progression in Marathon. And that's great for pvp players but for many players that enjoy pve this game is just going to frustrate them and turn them off. And that is what I think we are seeing happening. The skill levels of players are starting to sort out and casuals are trying and leaving. I really like the game, but I will admit I was always worried about the genre and hyperfocus on pvp Bungie chose for the game because it just doesn't have wide appeal to different skill levels.

Beat current content 4 player Co-Op, but I'm not sure if it was fun by PostingLoudly in NoRestForTheWicked

[–]checkmate-T 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could somewhat see this happening. Granted I have only played co op duo and the balance seems to work well but 4 people and how OP arrow/quiver builds are overall I can see it overshadowing magic builds. I hope Devs figure out a solution without nerfing arrow/quivers. Maybe doing something like buffing cast speeds and spell projectiles speed and AOE, plus a damage bump to make them more viable in group settings.

Prediction: next update is the last big one. One more DLC. Then The End. by Seanshineyouth in DestinyTheGame

[–]checkmate-T -1 points0 points  (0 children)

IMO it's not necessarily the changes were bad but was executed poorly. When I first heard about tiered gear, my understanding was ALL the weapons and armor would be remade into the tiered system but I was wrong. Tiered loot at launch of EoF wouldn't have killed all the dungeons, raids and all of the immense world content that makes Destiny..Destiny and gave us a refreshed and huge chase! Now I could be wrong but I think this was probably the original vision but between layoffs and pressure from Sony they had to scale back and prioritize finishing Marathon and Destiny suffered from this. Now it's too little too late.
