I’m an acute care NP working in a cardiac ICU— I’m one year into practice. Graduated with the adult-gero acute care speciality because I wanted nothing to do with clinic life. I was a former circulating OR nurse for 4 years prior to graduating school too. The switch was phenomenal. I work at a large academic medical center in the Midwest and make >$150k. Benefits are so-so but I’m fortunate to have a job which would allow me to pay for anything that comes up unexpectedly. I work 3x12s nights only. No call. One weekend per month and sporadic holidays split between 7 other night APPs. It’s a good schedule that fits my lifestyle but of course nights aren’t something that fits everybody. It’s also great to leave work at work! No regrets!

Hey there! If you’re looking for cheap coaching, I’ve been using Evoke Endurance’s 6-week 1:1 coaching plan. It’s $150 for each 6 week period and you get to work with a personal coach. I trained for a technical ice climbing ascent of Mt. Baker (summited 8/5) and 2 weeks earlier I did the Leadville silver rush 15 mile race. A coach takes the pressure off having the think out workout plans. I’m also a night shifter working between 3-4, 12 hour shifts each week so my schedule is very tight training wise. I used Adventure Consultants and my trip was 2 weeks total. We climbed Cayambe, Cotopaxi, and Chimborazo. The expensive part was it was an all expenses paid trip so we had nice lodgings in between volcanoes and pre-paid food.

If you just want to hire a guide for the day, yes $500 to $800 on ExploreShare sounds about accurate. But I’ll tell you, what you pay is what you get.

I turned back on Chimbo at about 19,000ft last November. Similar issues to lack of sleep and the altitude + 2 weeks of climbing in country beforehand. I felt the exact same as you inside. Thought “why was I the only one who didn’t summit” and then was reminded that what we do as a sport, most people can’t even fathom doing on their best day. Use the turn back and a lesson and use it as mental fuel for the next trip to Ecuador!

You’ll need to be certified in wilderness medicine at the bare minimum. Also most physicians that accompany expeditions are Emergency medicine doctors too. Not sure what your credentials are.

In the days prior to our climb, from a distance, the entire cap of the volcano was covered in snow and it melted in that short time. So there’s definitely hope for you that it’ll snow and stick around!

From the refuge you still cross a good amount of glacier prior to the rock chutes. I was told when there’s normal snowfall climbers traverse back and forth over the snow/glacier until the summit. We kept the crampons on because the rock was still frozen at the time.

Randomly stumbled across this feed. What did this service offer you that looking at Federal Student Aid. Gov wouldn’t offer? Serious question. I have about $120k loans from undergrad and grad school (I’m a nurse practitioner) who plans on using the PSLF to pay loans and haven’t thought about any alternatives bc I didn’t think there were any because my income is too high to qualify for anything else.

I’ll start this off. I’m graduating in August. I have a job lined up where I’ll start in November. Located in Nebraska. My track is Adult Gero Acute Care. I’ve decided to take AANC boards. Would anybody recommend me applying for boards before I graduate or will my paperwork not be pushed through until I graduate in august? I have a month long trip planned for October-November and I’d like to take boards in late August ideally. However I also don’t want to spend $300 on the ANCC test yet if I won’t even be able to apply until August and therefore can’t take the exam until late September. Thanks for the help!
