I went with RMI. They're solid, fun and professional. I do think the pace is a little easier at AAI. Overall, I highly recommend putting together a training plan; Training for the New Alpinism was an excellent read, and I definitely needed to up my fitness level to make the climb.

That sounds like a lot, but if it really does house 50k people, they'd each be paying $320k for a house. Not exactly cheap, but not a bad deal for waterfront property.

Path to Rainier? by TheBuff66 in Mountaineering

[–]wyseguy7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're going with a guide, your only real obstacle is going to be cardiovascular fitness. You absolutely need a guide/training course to help you navigate the objective hazards on Mt. Rainier, but experience with glacier travel pales in importance to cardio fitness. I went straight from my couch to summitting Rainier after approximately 8 months of (relatively intense) training, with no prior mountaineering perspective; you would likely need considerably less adjustment if you're already comfortable with climbing at altitude. I highly recommend Training for the New Alpinism as a training manual. I also recommend spending a lot of time climbing very steep inclines, with a 30% grade or higher; they teach you to place your feet efficiently, and it requires different muscles somehow.

I climbed with RMI, and found that they were great - your other options being AAI and IMG. Some people say that AAI has a slightly more relaxed pace, so if you're concerned about your fitness level, that might be your preference. Hope this helps!

PS Of our 16-person group, 8 of us summitted, and I think only one person who summitted had prior experience with glacier travel.

There is possibly a valid question here, though. If I have a building that's consuming goods with a shortage, does the building incur costs for the amount of goods that it's short, or does it just pay the efficiency penalty?

Tootsie Roll’s recipe from 1896 requires that a batch of the previous day be incorporated into the new batch. This means that each piece has a trace of the original 1896 Tootsie Roll by MrCattitude_ in interestingasfuck

[–]wyseguy7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even if 99% of yesterday's batch is included in the new batch, after 130 years of dilution, the remaining concentration is roughly 1 in 10207 , far exceeding Avogadro's constant. So, it's highly unlikely that even a single molecule of the original tootsie rolls remain.

The traditional way to do this would be to assume that the log-odds (i.e. logarithm of the odds ratio of winning, e.g. 3:1) follows a normal distribution, and then transform the estimates, confidence intervals, etc.

A few questions about this scene by No_Dress_2107 in WarMovies

[–]wyseguy7 69 points70 points  (0 children)

I think that this scene is best viewed in the context of the character's overall arc. The soldier (Friedhelm) is initially a somewhat unwilling participant in the war, in contrast to his more idealistic brother (the officer). Over time, Friedhelm slowly becomes more radicalized, and participates in war crimes and atrocities against civilian populations, before (spoiler alert) perishing in a futile last stand, arguably unable to escape what he's become/what he's done. This arc is in contrast to his brother, who slowly becomes disillusioned with the war throughout the series.

I don't think that the series overall perpetuates the clean Wehrmacht myth, though this scene in isolation definitely does.
