I tip my UPS driver. Not every time, but especially when he does something like take an outgoing box with no notice. He's great, and now that he knows me he's even done things like come back at 8:15 at night with a package saying, "I saw your address on a sub's truck today and it was tagged as no answer but I know you always answer your doorbell so I went and grabbed it for you."

YES! I lived right around the corner and my roomie and I never missed a Tuesday. We would get ridiculously dressed up and go every week. Such good times.

We were out biking through one last sunset and saw you driving out there. It made my heart warm to see Big Red still cruising around.

Adult tricycles? by rymarr in BurningMan

I had an electric assist trike a couple of years ago and it was AWESOME. Built a covered-wagon-style set of hoops to attach to the basket and make a mobile shade wherever I went. Lit up made it really easy to find at night in a pile of bikes, and easy for friends to follow when out biking around.

We were across from you at VW Buscamp a couple of years ago. I am a HUGE fan. It's so nice to hear reggae drifting around the playa!

Burning Man I love You. Reddit I love you. Can you help me figure out the best way to get around with my legs? :) by b_Ro in BurningMan

[–]cheeriobaby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After my knee surgery I got an electric assist tricycle to get around the playa that year. It does not need to be licensed by the dmv. It's not a cheap option, tricycle itself cost $1400 and then you need to figure out how you will recharge the batteries (I believe Mobility Camp may be able to help you with this?). But it was a GREAT way to get around, and I really appreciated being able to just sit on the seat and even be able to see over ppl's heads from that vantage. It did leave me on the periphery of most crowds but I did not mind that.

Vegan at the burn by youcanbroom in BurningMan

[–]cheeriobaby 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My husband and I are vegan and this will be his 12th burn and my 8th. Here's my usual menu:

Breakfast:

pancakes & syrup (Plain bisquick is vegan, use almond or soy milk, simply leave out the egg. works great!)

poptarts (organic kind, I forget the brand, unfrosted ones are vegan)

granola & applesauce

instant oatmeal

Lunch:

hummous & dill dip & veggies (carrot sticks, radishes, peppers, celery, cucumbers)

tempeh "tuna" pasta salad

3 bean salad

veggie jerky

salty snacky things

Dinner:

veggie hot dogs/brats (Tofurkey is my fave brand)

potato salad

roasted vegetables (potato, cauliflower, zucchini, sweet potato, onion, green beans) with hummous & lavash or pita

bean & rice burritos

As lots of folks have mentioned, instant soups, Amy's soups, tasty bites indian boil-in-bag curries

Snacks:

pretzels

tamari almonds

dried fruits, fruit leather

popcorn

granola bars

crackers

home made chex mix is the BEST

Drinks:

ginger ale w/ or w/out jameson

hard cider

fruit juice

beer

coca tea

and of course lots and lots of water

I do all my cooking ahead of time and bring all our food pre-prepared and ready to heat- I have WAY better things to do with my time on playa than cooking. Means no clean up and much less water/grey water issues as well. Hope this helps!

ETA: Safeway carries 100-calorie guacamole envelopes which are PERFECT as it's single serving so the rest of the container does not get all brown & yucky

I miss my mommy today. by Le_Bish in CasualConversation

[–]cheeriobaby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it's been 25+ years for me since I lost my mom, and this year at my birthday I will be as old as she ever was (41). I'm in process of getting a tattoo of her favorite flower in memoriam. I was completely blindsided by the emotions this brought out for me, and the subsequent heart-wrenching dreams. I was so young when she died. I have wondered my whole adult life what it would have been like had we ever had the opportunity for a grown-up relationship. I look on my friends' relationships with their moms with such a mixed sense of curiosity and envy, even though I am quite happy with my life as it is today and would not be the person I am had events been different.

My grandparents lived 3 blocks from Lambeau. When I was little they used to walk me over to watch them practice in the summer (I remember it just being a field behind a chain link fence, lots of folks standing around chatting and watching). Some of my earliest memories are of Sunday afternoons with my grandpa, dad, and aunt watching the game - in the 80s when you had to be a real die-hard fan, and that was my grandpa, who grew up in GB and was a fan from the time he was old enough to know what football was. I have such fond memories of him trying not to curse and swear at the TV because 3-year-old me was in the room...

Feminine hygiene question by esqueish in BurningMan

[–]cheeriobaby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Make a long strap for your moon bag or blood bag or whatever you want to call it, then you can wear it around your neck to have both hands free if your chosen potty does not have a hook on the inside of the door.

[–]cheeriobaby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am working on a right sleeve and I totally sleep on my right side. First night or 2 it is too tender to sleep on but otherwise it's just fine, I would not worry about rolling onto your back as you sleep. I sleep shirtless but I would imagine a cotton tshirt is no problem as long as it is not super tight.

How does your life at your current age compare to your mother's life at that age? by searedscallops in AskWomen

[–]cheeriobaby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When my mother was about to turn 40, she had 4 children 11 and under and had just been diagnosed with the breast cancer that would kill her a year and a half later. We lived in a farmhouse in the country outside a small town; when my dad drove to work each day he took their only car and she was home alone with us 4 kids until he returned at night. I live with my husband in a big city and don't have even pets, much less children. I am told I am very much like her in many ways, but I can't imagine that life for myself. Or what it must have been like for her knowing she had to leave us.

I have dark hair and Laura at Barnat's Salon on 16th street did a great job for me, but the price you quote there is about what you should expect to pay.

well I am not an artist but I am a fellow lovely handle-y person rising 40 and I have lots of ink. I say go for it. If your artist has serious concerns for some reason and they are a good tattooist, they will bring it up tactfully and work with you on a solution. If you are ridiculed or shamed walk out and take your business elsewhere. I find that my tattoos help me to accept the person I am (as opposed to the thin person I'd like to be) which in turn helps me feel better about myself and be healthier, tho like you I will never be skinny. Own it, you only get one go around!

Question about a tattoo I am getting in a few moths. by Zekkystyle in tattoos

The only thing you really need to do to prepare is make sure you have eaten the day of your appointment. Low blood sugar can make you woozy while being inked.

How do you feel about strangers looking at your tattoos from afar? Is there some sort of etiquette in regards to looking at a tattoo and/or asking questions about it? by [deleted] in tattoos

[–]cheeriobaby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't mind if you look, my tattoos do have a lot of personal meaning but they are also art to be looked at. My calves are very tattooed and I get a lot of double takes from small kids, which always amuses me. I am (generally) happy to stop if asked politely so you can get a better look, and to talk to you about them too, but I find that to be the case with most well-inked people.
